It's a small cafe serving wraps and salads and such. Just the regular stuff - egg salad, roast beef, etc. The chef/owner has a personal emphasis on raw/vegan food as well and makes her own line of kale chips as well as having raw/vegan options every day, and has a juice cleanse side business as well.

Anna is the nicest person like ever. She has a good selection of chips and drinks to go with the sandwiches, a lot better than most cafes.

Edited to add: I really appreciate if people want to support her, but even if all of us who work in the area could go there once a week, it wouldn't make up for the volume she lost, so I'm trying to find out if anyone knows if there are potential new tenants there.

What's the focus of her business?  Is she primarily a sit down place?  Carry out?  Delivery?

I don't know how the service industries (that seem to dominate downtown) work these days, but in manufacturing the days of heading out to eat lunch are pretty close to gone.  Even a new tenant might not subscribe to the "lunch hour" culture.

Delivery might be a viable niche.  It sure would be around here (Mentor).  Especially if she has a menu online and can accept e-mailed orders.  Phone usage period has dropped a lot if the last couple places I have worked are any indication.

This is a very, very tiny cafe, almost exclusively takeout. There are four very small tables but mostly, people get food to go. (Hence the name - Good 2 Go).

She has no staff and can't afford to hire anyone. When business is super super booming, she sometimes employs a PT cashier, but this is a very small, one-person operation. Delivery would be completely impossible. She also does not have a set/static menu other than a few staple items (e.g. the aforementioned egg salad, RB, etc.), she does rotating specials each day based on whatever she got that was fresh/looked good.

And again, I'm really not interested in overanalyzing her business, I'm interested in tenancy in IMG. If nobody knows about that, that's cool, but me debating her possible business opportunities or ways to branch out and make more money is not really the focus of my question and nothing I'm super equipped to answer since it's not my business.

^^ Is that Good to Go? (I think Annie, right)? I used to hit her up every morning and a couple times a week for lunch. She's got good stuff. It's more of a take out cafe type place. I'm sorry to hear she's struggling. She has a great demeanor. I'd go there more, but my office is in Willoughby now. Kind of out of the way.

Edit: I just realized that I thought I was posting about a page earlier, and missed all of the posts from this page of the thread. Sorry for the redundant comments.

Yes, Anna. She is just a terrific person.

Zack Bruell will open Kafeteria in former BP Building on Cleveland's Public Square: Restaurant Row

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Here’s refreshing news. Zach Bruell isn’t opening another restaurant this year.

Oh, wait. No. He’s opening an entire cafeteria.

Make that Kafeteria, the name Bruell has chosen for his next project – on the third floor of 200 Public Square, formerly known as the BP Building in downtown Cleveland.

SUPER EXCITED about this. That is right next to where I work.

I'm not familiar with the floor layout of this building, but I'm assuming this is NOT the old Frank and Pauly's space?

^I think you are right...wasn't frank and pauly's on the first floor superior side?

I didn't know there was a restaurant in the IMG building. What is it called?

Correct. It's a food court type space on the 3rd floor.

Well I saw her website and she's doing everything I'd suggest if she's posting her specials or has an opt-in e-mail list.  I'd even hit it up, but I'm in Mentor.

I'd go there more, but my office is in Willoughby now. Kind of out of the way.

I miss Willoughby in a way.  Schlotsky's and Jersey Mike's close by.

ANYWAY, if anyone knows if IMG is getting another tenant, please let me know. Otherwise maybe this whole discussion should be moved to the restaurant board.

I'm going to bite my tongue on this topic for the most part, but R&R, it's not a happy situation when someone you know, maybe even close to, is losing their business, is it?  Your snide and insensitive remarks from roughly a year ago really come to mind when I see you trying to drum up support for a friend who has put her heart and soul into something in this City.  I hope it makes you think before you pile on people who have put their neck on the line to make Cleveland a better place.

That's all I'm going to say and have a great afternoon.

Well......that was a productive post

I have no idea what you're referring to as far as remarks from a year ago. Apparently I said something that really made you mad, oh well, I guess I'm sorry if whatever I said upset you.  A little weird that you are still holding a grudge a year later for remarks made on an internet forum?

for the eleventieth time, I am not trying to drum up support for my friend's business. Or ask for tips to pass on to her about how to market her business better or what she should do with social media or delivery or anything else, though it's nice of everyone to chime in who was interested in responding. I would have posted in the restaurant thread if I was looking for a discussion about her business practices or whatever. She happened to mention to me that this huge tenant in IMG building moved out and the result of that, and so I immiately thought of my "friends" on urban ohio (apparently I was way off base there) who know a lot about urban planning and what is going on with various buildings and tenants, so I thought I would see if I could find out if there was anyone else on the near term horizon. This way I could say to her, oh, if you can hang on a couple more months, it sounds like another company is coming in or yeah, maybe it's time to throw in the towel or whatever. This was not ever a post to "drum up support" for her. As I've stated repeatedly, I just wanted to know about the possibility of prospective tenants in the building.

I don't think there's been any rumor of any new tenants of size moving into that building. I've been in the space a few times, and it's pretty standard office space, so I imagine they could lease it up / or break it up into smaller units without much work, but I don't have to tell you it will be no small feat to replace that many employees in a short amount of time.

Has she spoken to the building management to see if they could give her any indication? Maybe they could give her a break on her lease while the space is vacant, as an incentive to keep an amenity in the building.

^^w28th is obviously referring to the Dredgers Union issue from last year.

That's a good suggestion, AJ. I know she knows people at building management, she said "as far as she knew" there wasn't anyone on the horizon, but they probably don't share all their business plans with every tenant, you know? Might not be aware how small the margin is in the restaurant business and how much the move is affecting her. I will mention that idea to her.

wasn't obvious to me jeremyck01, thanks for the reminder. I'm sure I stand by everything I said from back then. I only vaguely remember the conversation, and obviously we shouldn't "dredge" it up again.

^^ It's worth a shot. Oswald was a big tenant, but by no means the only sizable tenant. There's also Chicago Title and, not the least, the building's name tenant, IMG, all of whom probably enjoy being able to go downstairs for a quick snack / coffee, or a meal when the weather turns. Building's owner probably hasn't even given her a thought up to now. She should squalk loudly.

Bummer.  I can't believe that space is still vacant!  But the cafeteria concept sounds great if I were a downtown worker!

Moved a bunch of posts here from the Cleveland General Business thread.

Paradise found: Porco Lounge brings Tiki drinks, Polynesian pop and exotic decor to Cleveland's West 25th Street

No man is an island? Well, allow me to introduce you to Stefan Was.  A man who heard the thunder and the voices of the Tiki gods. A man who took them in as his muse. A man who said, “I shall build this temple to the gods of Polynesia, even as the hordes worship at the altar of craft beer.”

We, OK, he didn’t actually say that. But he is doing something no man has done, at least in Cleveland, in decades.

On Oct. 5, Was will open Porco Lounge & Tiki Room, 2527 West 25th St., Cleveland.

When is the Urban Ohio soft open?

thanks guys!  the official "urban ohio soft opening" is this week!  we're hammering out the times, but we hope to be open for a couple hours tue-fri to help work out any kinks.  will post up our times as soon as we work it out, and remember to keep it a secret ;)

Oh heck yeah!!!

Congrats porco!

And congrats on getting the glass block outta there!...its almost gone I saw today. Will be nice to see an active storefront in that part of OC.

In news from ' down the street'... a bulldozer is on the premises, and the interior demo is going on, at the old Envy Club.

too bad its getting razed for a surface pkg lot. Accdg to OCI it's neeeded, but its a walkability-killer.

o.k. urban ohioans, here's your exclusive invite to preview porco lounge & tiki room.  we'll be soft open tonight (10/2) and tomorrow evening from 6:00-10:00 p.m..  if you're in the neighborhood, we'd love to have you and your feedback.

mahalo!

WOOOOO! I wish I could come tonight but I will def try to make it tomorrow.

Does anyone know if Charkha (the Indian restaurant in the Warehouse District) closed? I tried to go lunch last Thursday and it's been dark ever since?

Nooooo! I loved that place. Their website is 404 now. Doesn't sound good.

I was wondering about that but forgot to ask here.  We tried to order dinner two Fridays ago, and the phone just kept ringing and ringing.  The website was also down at that point, so I think closed is a safe assumption.  And that totally sucks, cause we love Indian food.

Charkha was good but every time i was there, it was empty.  that area is becoming a tough spot to have a restaurant

Time for a 24 hour diner! I would be there all the time!

In the Who....errrrr....Warehouse District?

I doubt the city buys off on that.

Yeah.... I'll have to agree with E Rocc on that one.  The City is not going to go along with something that incentivizes people to not empty out the WHD once the bars close.  I have some fuzzy drunken memories of Panini's in the Flats being open after the bars closed and that was never a pretty scene.

We have two 24-hour restaurants in my neighborhood. Yes, every so often there's an out-of-control crowd in there after the bars close. But the police get them out of there pretty quick. So having an off-duty cop working security at a 24-hour nightspot downtown would be great. I wonder how Jakes on the square does it, as they are open 24 hours. Perhaps there's enough police down there on the square after-hours that they get some security as a side-benefit.

I'm sure you guys saw that Accent shut down immediately after dinner service on Saturday. No word as to why.

Jake's probably picks up both people and security from the casino.

The Lakewood bar scene doesn't seem to have nearly as many problems at closing time as the WHD.  It could be a stronger initial police presence.  As distracted as LPD can be, it's nothing compared to what CPD deals with.  Plus, from what I've heard the Lakewood bars are more proactive vis a vis security than the WHD.

Plus, it seems to me that the Lakewood crowd is a lot like most college towns, where everyone scatters when the police arrive.  The WHD people aren't as easily dispersed.

Lakewood has a lot of bars, but they don't have anything like the concentration along W. 6th St.  The clubs and bars there are much larger and closer together, and attract a later night club.  The average Lakewood bar is kicking out a dozen or so drunks at closing time, tops. The average WHD club is kicking out an order of magnitude more.

Does anyone know if Table 9, which was in the former One Walnut space, has closed? Only went once and had a very odd experience. Doesn't surprise me, but too bad... It could've been a success but the food was nowhere near adequate.

The late crowd is a lot more resistant to giving up the alcohol at closing time, let alone leaving.  You get a lot of "why are you kicking us out, and not them?  (because there's one of me, and I know them...).

They get disgruntled once they hit the streets.

I would not be surprised to see some clubs start closing at 1:30 or even 1:00am, even on the weekends.  Or just not letting anyone new in after those times.

Maybe this has changed since I quit drinking 10 years ago, but most of the Lakewood bars are neighborhood bars. It's a place where a middle-aged guy or a retiree from the neighborhood walks to for dinner and has some drinks while watching the game with other neighborhood friends. And he walks home with the wife or to return home to the wife by 9 or 10 pm. It's a little bit younger and more rowdy on Friday or Saturday nights. But like X said, nothing like West 6th.
