Great news, Sarah Wilson-Jones is such a great, nice person. Wishing her and Phoenix the best in this cool little locale.

Yeah but they need to address their hours at the East Ninth Location consider they will have residential neighbors across the street.  Closing at 5:30pm and not being open on a Sunday in the heart of Downtown is puzzling.

Or maybe they know how to operate their own business.

^ Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but this phoenix coffee talk reminded me that they switched locations on Coventry. The new space is really nice, much better than the previous one.

Yes, very nice.  I was at the one on Lee road yesterday and they are in the process of updating the finishes.  They put in a faux white brick background behind the coffer bar, new tables, lights, floor, etc.  I haven't been to the one on Coventry lately, but I think the finishes are consistent.

Or maybe they know how to operate their own business.

So me suggesting that they address hours at that location is wrong?  1717 is right next door, the 9 project up the street, new housing around Perk Park.

Perhaps their business model isn't conducive to a CBD business seeing as they closed the WHD location.

Coming soon around downtown

Clueless,Ohio[/member]  thanks for that.  Seems as others have moved in so maybe there is no need for Phoenix to adjust their hours.

Damn! Good week for downtown Cleveland. Although we've been saying that all summer. Cleveland is beginning to take off!

To really top off the week...East 4th's Butcher & Brewer is now officially open

Or maybe they know how to operate their own business.

  Who's always the first person around here to say, "But were you at the table when the decision was made/do you have experience with this sort of business/do you know what their numbers look like"?  I've been in similar businesses in similar situations, these guys know what does and does not make them money.  If the traffic is good enough, they will be open later.  But by "good enough" that means enough extra business to staff and manage the location for those extra hours.  That can be substantial, as they would most likely need to add people to do so.

Lower Euclid, Prospect, East 4th, and the Casino is where all the evening activity is. Everything north of Euclid is completely dead during that time.  That spot will most likely remain just a business hours spot.

Edit:Warehouse District too

Is 12th and Chester across from Perk Park?

Butcher & Brewer:  One of the owners invited me down to watch the browns game & have a few beers.  They are putting the final pieces together before their grand opening (soon, very soon - they're having friends & family nights later this week, so that should give you an indication).  The place looks great.  Here are a few pics I took with my iPhone (only posting a few - final touches need to be made, and my iPhone pictures don't do the place justice).  Side note:  The bathroom, which looks great, is very unique, at least unique to Cleveland (you'll see what I mean when you check the place out).

I love those bar stools (they are not cheap!)

The place looks great!

Clueless, you made my wife a happy woman! I showed her the pic of  Hanabi Sushi and she let out a wooooo! She's a huge sushi fan.

Edit: as far as I know, Clueless has never been to my house.  :-P

Yes.

Thanks. Hope it helps the park and vice versa

As a Seasons resident I am very excited about what this could offer. Perk Park does not need any help with attracting visitors. It is packed all hours of the night by residents of all the local buildings.

Now if they would just fill the old Bread Co. space right on the park... I know it was something briefly but it lasted for like less than a month. At least it seemed like it

Since we're talking Perk Park area, just gotta give a shout out to Cedarland on E. 12th. Great great Lebanese spot with reasonable prices.

The first time I was there I saw a gentleman eating a rice dish in proper Lebanese fashion - with his hands! I knew then that this place was the right place :-)

Crop Rocks Out of Waterloo Bank Building, Mexican Concept Inks Deal

By Douglas Trattner, Cleveland Scene

Aug 26, 2014

When Steve Schimoler formally opted out of his plans to open the flashy Crop Rocks in the former Key Bank Building (15619 Waterloo Rd.), it was a big blow to all the folks hard at work to make Waterloo and North Collinwood a destination neighborhood.

Well, the building already has been spoken for. Eddie Galindo and partner Jessica Anter, who own and operate the original Luchita’s Mexican Restaurant (3456 W. 117th St., 216- 252-1169, luchita.com), will open a new Mexican concept in the dramatic building ...

Darn. I thought the Crop concept was a very good one. Perhaps the concept will arise - or be copied elsewhere.

^yeah I was wondering if that was just the Hermit Club...why would they do that if the article is about the restaurant.

LOL, whoops. Hey check out this new restaurant. No, we don't want to show you anything of the outside so that you will be able to recognize it.

Greek Village Owner to Open New Greek Concept in Warehouse District

Tommy Karakostas is on a roll. He opened his popular Lakewood eatery Greek Village Grille — voted Best Greek Restaurant by Scene readers — in 2009. He followed that up with a new Greek Village in Broadview Heights in 2013. This week he opens his third Greek Village, this one in Medina. And by the end of October he will open Santorini, a modern Greek restaurant in the Warehouse District

Cleveland man reopens Edgewater Cafe -- a time-capsule of a bar that looks just like it did in 1996 (photo gallery)

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Authentic. Real. Vintage.

New bars kill to have that kind of rep.

The Edgewater Cafe doesn't  have to. The joint -- West 50th Street and Detroit Avenue, Cleveland -- looks like nothing has changed there in decades, well, because it hasn't.

I really like this quote:

"I had to do that – you couldn't watch a Browns game on that old TV we had," he said. "You know, the neighborhood is getting better here, and it's good to have some changes."

Glad they kept the iconic exterior sign, and the stage layout change fixes the only major thing wrong with the original place.

It appears that the Piccadilly's Ohio City Location has been closed indefinitely after being open a year. Starting this weekend, they had a sign up that says, "We apologize for this inconvenience but this location will be closed until further notice. Please visit our Coventry & University Circle locations. Thank you, Adrian & Cosmin." They've also seemed to empty it out pretty well.

Business always seemed to be scarce at this location. From my perspective, they suffered from opening quietly in the beginning of last winter, Mitchell's competition which blew them away in options & experience, being out-of-sight of many evening restaurants, and perhaps not offering options as much as other Piccadilly's locations.

So sad. I wanted them to do well. But I especially wanted them to bring their liquid nitrogen ice cream to this location.

LockKeepers names Public Square as site for first of two new downtown Cleveland restaurants

True.

Petkovic did a story on the smoking ban where he talked about lighting up and getting yelled at.  This happened at the place I work at.  Ironically, we were the one high profile place in the area that didn't enforce the ban while it was "voluntary" before the regulations were actually written.
