So what happens to the old location?  I can't see Sam McNulty letting that space go dark for long.

Black Pig leaving West 25th Street, moving to former Light Bistro spot

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- You'll find The Black Pig at a new address in Ohio City by mid-November.

Monday afternoon, chef and co-owner Michael Nowak inked a deal to take over the former Light Bistro, 2801 Bridge Ave.

Though he has "loved the building, and the restaurant, and the concept" of the space at 1865 West 25th St. which he and his staff have occupied for roughly two years, Nowak says he couldn't deny the advantages of what has become a landmark around the corner.

Nano expands

That vacancy on W25th will not last long and will open up a new opportunity for a new business.

Smith is correct McNultys Nano Brew is knocking down a wall and taking the whole space

Bourbon Street Barrel room is open! On Professor Ave

For the record...

For the record...

Oh that's just not good. Tremont establishments don't have to try to mimic other stereotypical fun places to be cool. That removes the cool. Its like a cool-ectomy being done on Professor Ave.

Trust me, I live in New Orleans. Nothing cool about Bourbon Street. Lots of awesome in NOLA, and the French Quarter is amazing, but there is nothing cool about Bourbon Street.

*rant over*

Agree. The name is awful, and it doesn't seem to fit in Tremont. Maybe we should open a Texas Road House next door....there's gotta be some mechanical bulls laying around CLE.  ;-)

I saw pictures of the inside and think it looks really cool. I dunno. something I like about Tremont is how very different your experiences are from place to place. Going to Lolita is nothing like going to Ty Fun. Drinking at Edison's is nothing like Spotted Owl. Properity is really unique, or you can go old school drinking at Hotz', or upscale eating with brunch at Lucky's. The pix made me excited to check it out.

Put yourself in the owners shoes though.  I would say a large portion of Clevelanders cannot relate to New Orleans.  They need to brand their name so the average uneducated schmuck will be interested.  Frenchman Street Barrel Room or Decatur Street Barrel Room probably wouldnt generate the same notoriety.  I hate Bourbon Street in New Orleans, by the way...just plain terrible

I agree.  The photo really does look interesting and inviting... even tasteful imho – esp the gaslight replicas.  I will say that I'm not a regular enough visitor to Tremont (shame on me, ... that's going to change) to understand what people are complaining about-- I can't decipher whether it's more about the actual look of this new restaurant or its name-reference to Bourbon Street (which is just being a tad too touchy for my taste).  I do know that I really like the lively but easy-going style of Professor Street (as opposed to the more frenzied, urban/big-city feel of W. 25th -- but both have their respective places).  Count me in on planning a visit to The Bourbon Street Barrel Room.

For me it's simply the name. Tremont has a great ambiance; it's unique and represents what's special about Cleveland.

So when a business feels the need to market itself using the style and allure of some other touristy city, it makes me question if this person really "get's it."

That's all.

Count me in the group that loves the idea. Rockandroller hit it on the head. Most restaurants in Tremont have some kind of theme. It's just the reference to Bourbon Street that seems to put off a few of you. This place will do well as long as the food and drinks are good.

It won't have a negative affect on Tremont. I'll start to worry when drunk chicks start flashing dudes for beads in true Bourbon St style. When that happens I'll be sure to head over there every day to complain!

Maybe it depends on what part of the name you are looking at. It appears that most of the people here looked at the name, and focused on "Street" and immediately thought of "Bourbon Street".

The word I focused on was "Bourbon" and immediately thought of "Yes, please"

I thought it was supposed to be a reference to their vast selection of bourbons as well, but it seems like it actually has more to do with their NOLA fair.

Looks like Rocky River will be getting (19800 Detroit) a new concept from the folks at Paladar called Bomba Tacos & Rum. This from seeing a new liquor license this week and finding trademark info

Despite some concern over the Bourbon Street Barrel Room up thread... :) I went last night and really enjoyed it. Personally I like the whole look they went for. It's really a beautiful space without being over-the-top Disneyland-esque. Food and drinks were great and service as well. Very crowded too for just recently opening.bd3063688f697cc2a843a492b13fee2d.jpg

I like.  From this picture it gives a NoLa feeling without being campy.

There's also a Mellow Mushroom opening in rocky River right next to Sweet Melissa's. Old Ingersols location.

Does anyone have any clue when the Hansa Import Haus restaurant/brewery plans to open?  I have seen that they planned to open summer 2014 in all of the articles I could find.

I like the signage for Hanabi. I must have walked right past it today. Does anyone know of opening dates for either restaurant?

I'm looking forward to taking my in-laws, who are both immigrants from Greece, there next time they come in to town.  Might offer a better taste of the homeland than the Mad Greek

I wonder if Santorini is Tommy what's his name's place finally coming to life, who owns Greek Village Grill. He was going to open a place on W 25th last year but it fell through.

I don't know how I missed that. VERY excited to hear this.

Yeah.... it is definitely the same guy.  I remember reading the article a few years back about the plans for one in OC and wondered why that never came to fruition.  From what I recall, he was insistent on not "Americanizing" the food.... to the point where some people might be a bit grossed out.  I also recall visions of live music and a very Mediterranean feel/vibe to the place.

Yes, I remember Tommy talking about his Ohio City restaurant around 2011 as I frequent the Greek Village in Lakewood. It was either slated for the building with the Black Pig/Nano Brew or the strip with Ohio City Burrito. I guess the landlord backed out of the lease at the last minute, and Tommy opted for a second location in Broadview Heights. I think he was using that location to test a larger restaurant concept before trying the downtown area. He's big on authentic Greek food (e.g. pork gyro being common style instead of lamb) and has traveled to Greece numerous times for menu updates and ideas. Definitely more authentic than Mad Greek or anything else in Cleveland area!

This was fast...

Nano Brew to Double in Size But Will Remain Small at Heart

I had lunch at La Bodega in Tremont today.  On the service counter it said they are opening a 2nd location in Midtown.  I forget the actual address other than it is on Superior Ave.  I remember when I looked up the location on my phone it was near the Superior & E 39th intersection.

OOOOOOOOOOH!!!

Sounds like that will be a great addition to Tyler Village (or its immediate neighborhood).

Sounds like the approximate location of that since-closed restaurant that used to serve things like deep-fried Twinkees or deep-fryed PBJs

Brickstone on E 9th has a sign posted that they are now open for Gateway events and private parties only.  Sounds like a death rattle to me.

^ That's a tough spot.

How many restaurants have been in that spot starting with the Tavern of Richfield in the mid 90s?

There may be more...

If I may, the Hofbrauhaus has made my bi-monthly greyhound trips extremely pleasant. What a fun place and what a great location.

So long La Palace Sushi Rock. I had quite a few fun Thursdays there during their half off specials.

So they only have the Short North location now?

Short North closed a year or more ago (?) And I noticed how empty it was on Monday (lights on.. no cars),and thought they must have closed at La Place...

I'm absolutely shocked. (Not really.) The few times I went (usually being dragged there by friends), the staff was consistently rude and arrogant, the service was subpar, and the food was not worth the price.

Oh wow...I've been gone too long apparently haha.

The downtown outpost was the least pretentious and most tolerable of the three.

That's exactly the same thing they did when they closed the Warehouse District location a few years ago

Choo Lah Indian BBQ opened today in the old Saturn car dealership on Chagrin Blvd, across from the Woodmere Whole Foods. This place is a one-off quick-service Indian restaurant (order and pick up at counter and seat yourself) but is totally chainified (from the menu design to dining room look to the logo T-shirts) from day one... and mean that, actually, in a good way. Very slick, with room-long windows overlooking the Tandoor ovens and prep area.  Lots of different seating options (booth, tables, high tops, giant communal table, etc...)

Food was great (around $9 each for Tikka Masala, etc...) and place was very full, even at 8 pm. Really enjoyed. Will go back soon.
