^We need good Indian downtown---for dinner (not only lunch). There was a place on Prospect a few yrs ago, but they closed.

I especially thought Choo Lah did a great job by having a photo menu to pass out to each incoming customer - to help ensure they knew what each Indian dish was  if their knowledge coming in was more limited - as well as giving out tiny maps showing the two entrance/exits from the parking lot (one of which is on the side street to west of restaurant - which is much easier to get out onto versus going west on Chagrin Blvd, etc...) The owners really put some thought into this during the EXTENDED build out... (I assumed they'd never open... they must have been under construction for 9 months...)

Mirch Masala is really good (imo).

I've heard terrible things about Mirch Masala, your'e like the only person who has said anything good about it so I've totally avoided it. Maybe they are coming around and doing a better job.

My only complaint has been the time it takes to get the food.

My favorite... Goat Curry

that is a shame because i would have guessed you would definitely be into indian style chinese food. for sure it's one of my favorite culinary mashups, the chino-latino of india. chinese food really adapts itself well to every culture, it's just amazing. anyway, fwiw the menu looks 100% correct to me. might be worth it to avoid the traditional indian dishes and go for a mirch mashup dish or two, like try a little something that they can't mess up like cauliflower dry chili and a chaat. or anything with the dry spices. aww i shouldn't look at menus at night, now i made myself hungry haha.

I'm sure a lot, if not most, on here are already aware of this site - http://www.clevelandindependents.com/ - but an FYI to those who aren't, including you lurkers.  For all those 'I have no idea what to get you' folks on my holiday shopping/gift list, a gift card from that site is what they are getting.  Quick, easy, and best of all it supports the local economy.  Certainly better than fandango bucks or a Darden restaurant gift card.

I've eaten there for lunch a few times. It was fine--like a 5 out of 10. I'm walking by, I'll stop in. But I'd never actively seek it out or bring someone there for dinner.

As a person from the Subcontinent (heeeeyyyyyy!), I've never eaten at Mirch Masala. I really never had a reason to. I cook most of my own Desi food. Just made giant batch of samosas for a party.

Anyway, Desi-Chinese is one of my favorite cuisine mashups. I look forward to eating it in Lahore whenever I visit family.

I'll stop in one day and report my findings here.

Thanks! you probably just knocked a real tough one off my shopping list, which shockingly enough is close to completed.

If only there was a Columbus equivalent...

Pronto in Macedonia closed, I've heard it was good but nothing out of this world special.  In that area, there's a lot of very good Italian restaurants and I think the market is saturated.  Previously the location was Fat Casual, which moved to the Tavern of Solon.

That said, it's right off 271 and about halfway between downtown Cleveland and Akron, so if someone has a food truck business with a somewhat unique twist IMO it would make a nice base.  Which, I think, is what Pronto was doing.

Ate at Crop Kitchen few nights back.  This is the old Accent space in Uptown.  Food was good, prices very reasonable, poured a good drink and they did a nice job redoing what was a cool decor for Accent.  Plus they have complimentary valet parking!  Also I might add that Uptown was really bustling....much more so than before.  With CIA addition and potentially Intesa around the bend, this will really be hopping.

Well Claddagh at Legacy Village has announced it will be closing. I think this has been an on-and-off rumor for at least a few years...now it's official.

World of beers in lakewood apparently closed as well

That Claddagh situation has been brewing for years, based on past info from Legacy management. About time. Capital Grille wanted that space several years ago - now going to Beachwood Place.  Will be interesting to see if they have tenant lined up or not. Steiner, the owner of Easton Town Center in Columbus, is now leasing for Legacy. They just signed/opened a Kona Grill down there - and that chain, one that I know has been looking at Cleveland in recent years - would be at the top of the list of potential replacements, based on connections Steiner has. Another would be Cooper's Hawk Winery/Restaurant - also at Easton and also known to be looking at Cleveland. Space is big for an independent - but guess we'll see.

As far as Pronto! It sounds like the food truck will continue.  I had been there a few times.  Once for dinner due to great reviews on Yelp.  It was pretty good for dinner although a little over-priced. There doesn't seem to be much correlation between what the food truck offered vs what the dinner menu had.  I tried their lunch sandwiches which I would assume is the fare for the food truck and felt it was nothing special but they were charging $12-14 for sandwiches.  I'll give them that they were the best sandwich shop on that street.

It was announced last month that Giant Eagle is going to knock down the gas station on rt 8 next door in order to expand it to a full service Getgo.  I wonder if Giant Eagle has purchased this property as well,

That's been rumored and probably inevitable for years.  There's a little gift shop or something still running in that building at least for now.  But if I was GE, I'd move towards the 8-Highland intersection for some visibility.

I was wondering what they were up to when they went in there.  The area has so many really good Italian restuarants (not to mention mama/grandma's kitchens) already that in that semi-hidden spot they were going to have to be profoundly excellent to make it.  It would make more sense for a food truck operator doing something that would fill a niche, something like Cajun, Indian, Thai, etc.

What would the range be for appropriate attire at Pier W?

I would not wear jeans, but that's just me. Anything from "business casual" (i.e. dress shirt and khakis) to a suit is acceptable.

You can get away with jeans and a blazer.

It's such a special location. Beautiful lake views and great decor. It really makes you want to dress up.

We went last night. I probably would've felt overdressed in a suit. I'd say about half the guys there had jeans on.  Only saw one guy with a suit and tie. Was a little surprised by how many kids were dining. Very nice place and great food. Complimentary champagne to celebrate their 50th anniversary and you get to keep the flutes

As long as they keep the Moxie burger, I'm good. Aside from an occasional business lunch, I never set foot in there anymore. Probably due for an overhaul.

The Mexican restaurant intrigues me. I'm equally interested to see if it's successful in that location. The Applebees has been the longest standing restaurant in that intersection. No one can get any long term traction there.

^thats a nice deal.  Reddstone has been mismanaged for a while now, although still a fun little nook for us Detroit Shoreway residents to walk to...it wasnt exactly upper echelon talent.  Enter these guys and Detroit Shoreway gets even more elevated in the food category.

I'm so, so excited about this. Brian is a stand-up guy who makes fantastic food and David is my favorite bartender in Cleveland. I am in G/S at least twice a month for theater/writing-related work so I'm stoked.

Has anyone heard any updates on the 2nd Moxie location planned for 811 Prospect?

So is Santorini open yet?  Has anyone been?

:( :( :(

I used to go there at least once a week when I worked in Key tower.

Greek Express in the Arcade is closed :-(

. That sucks. It's been around for so long, and always a line at lunch! I wonder what happened. Now the arcade is REALLY going to be deserted....

No one knows about Santorini?  I looked online and it is not clear.

I'm certain Doug Trattner will be covering them for the Scene immediately when they are open. He is usually very quick to get to places that are newly opened. If it was open, I think I would have heard about it by now.

Man, I expected that place to really blow up.

^ I asked around at the Greek Village Grille in Lakewood, and they expect Santorini to open in the next month or two. Will be a great addition to the Warehouse District!

Thats a really strange map.

Ok i understand that map now that i realize its based on yelpers search requests. Still pretty odd that they have hot dog there for wv.

And note, the map is showing the most disproportionately popular food in every state, not simply the most popular. It could very well be that hot dogs are more popular in PA than in WV, for example.

And Illinois on the hotdog comment.

Hawaiian for Hawaii, hmmmmm....  Wouldn't have guessed
