February 29, 20169 yr ^^ I believe the owner passed away (one of my co-workers that goes there a lot told me) Yes, he passed away a couple months ago, but I believe his wife and their son were running the place. Going to miss it!
March 3, 20169 yr Mark Wahlberg's Wahlburgers Restaurant To Open in Cleveland Posted By Bliss Davis [email protected]> on Thu, Mar 3, 2016 at 4:02 pm The actor formerly known as Marky Mark is bringing his family's fast food chain to Cleveland. The effort is part of a national expansion plan for the Wahlburgers chain, which is owned by Donnie, Mark and Paul Wahlberg. So far, five franchise groups have committed to opening 30 new restaurants in seven states. If everything goes as planned, there could be at least 118 Wahlburger joints across the country. While we don't yet know where all of those locations are going, at least six restaurants are slated to open in Cleveland and Detroit. March 4, 20169 yr I was going to make a snarky comment about the racially motivated attack Marky Mark participated in as a teenager that left a man blind in one eye, but apparently the dude forgives him and was already blind.
March 4, 20169 yr I was going to make a snarky comment about the racially motivated attack Marky Mark participated in as a teenager that left a man blind in one eye, but apparently the dude forgives him and was already blind. Please...stop. I'm interested in where these restaurants are going to located, not Marky Mark's past when he was a kid in Boston.
March 5, 20169 yr Click bait... 14 great restaurants in Lakewood (at least 14).... http://photos.clevescene.com/14-places-where-you-absolutely-need-to-have-dinner-if-youre-in-lakewood/?slide=1&beef-shawarma-platter-ferris-deli-restaurant "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

March 10, 20169 yr Has anyone heard if Stonetown closed on Prospect? I walked by there Monday and Tuesday around 8pm and the lights were off and doors shut, even though it said they were open til 11pm. No signs were on the doors at that point.
March 10, 20169 yr Huron Square Deli has closed in the old Halle Garage. Might be part of the whole K&D redo for the main Halle Building.
March 10, 20169 yr ^ that was mentioned above already. I think it had more to do with the owner passing than the K&D redo but I could be completely wrong.
March 10, 20169 yr Michael Symon was in town the inspections are getting done so now once again supposedly Mables BBQ Is supposed to open in April
March 27, 20169 yr I hope they still have their reuben, the best in Cleveland! Jake's is still there on the corner. Their pizza place is right next door
March 28, 20169 yr Oh, did Flaming Ice Cube close? That's too bad. Yea, I agree, although I never stopped in there even though I enjoyed it.
March 28, 20169 yr I went regularly when I worked on public square but as with all downtown restaurants, my visits have dropped off sharply since I got a job on the eastern edge of downtown since parking meters are in such short supply with all the construction.
March 28, 20169 yr Oh, did Flaming Ice Cube close? That's too bad. They're just moving to another location downtown.
March 28, 20169 yr My understanding is that Flaming Ice Cube has left Cleveland for a yet to be announced Eastern suburb... sounding like Beachwood?? A cheap pizza place took their spot. Pure & Supreme Cuisine, another vegan restaurant that was located in the 5th Street Arcades, was just booted for being behind on rent for a while. They're hoping to find another place downtown. A hot dog/sausage place is taking their place. So for now, our only vegan restaurant downtown (and in Cleveland I believe) is Helio Terra Vegan Cafe, which is excellent btw.

March 30, 20169 yr Quaker Steak & Lube Lakewood location closes abruptly http://www.cleveland.com/food/index.ssf/2016/03/quaker_steak_lube_lakewood_loc.html It was most likely a franchise and the owners treated the cash like cash and got into tax trouble. 90% of the time a place closes suddenly, this is why.
March 30, 20169 yr ^^It more likely has something to with Quaker Steak filing for bankruptcy last November and the Court approving the sale of their assets to Travel Centers of America last week.

March 30, 20169 yr Treated cash like cash - I like the way you phrase that. :-D I think it's a common expression in the industry, actually. I don't think I made it up.
March 30, 20169 yr Surprisingly, they were never very busy in there... at least from what I saw. And I'm over there several times a week.
March 30, 20169 yr Surprisingly, they were never very busy in there... at least from what I saw. And I'm over there several times a week. I was in Lakewood for the first time in awhile Monday night (Holly wanted Angelo's) and had forgotten how many different little places there are there. Few of which are chains.

Nearly all of Madison is amazingly chain-free. Take that Detroit Avenue!!!
March 30, 20169 yr Lakewood has become and continues to be a great food town It frustrates me that this is true of Lakewood, but not Cleveland Heights. It's not that I have an issue with Lakewood, I just wonder why C.H. as a similar suburb hasn't seen the same. If you ask me, any independent business in Lakewood should have another location in C.H. and vice versa. I know Melt came to C.H. after Lakewood and Bottlehouse Brewery just opened in Lakewood from C.H.
March 30, 20169 yr Smith I agree. I'm moving to the east side for the first time and although I've fallen in love with shaker, the biggest drawback is what u suggest. My goal is to get involved and try to change that.

My goal is to get involved and try to change that. Let me know how I can help! I'm actually President of the Cedar Taylor Development Association and I have one small commercial building in that neighborhood. If the price is right, I'd look to invest in more. All that said, while I admit we lag behind Lakewood, we do have some great restaurants - Tommy's, Anatolia, Nighttown, Black Box Fix, Melt, Anatolia, Marotta's , Little Italy, etc. And if you haven't checked it out yet - check out my favorite CH business - The Wine Spot. Not a restaurant, but you can bring food in and some Lee Road businesses will deliver there.

Not a restaurant, but you can bring food in and some Lee Road businesses will deliver there. I second The Wine Spot... Marotta's is great (best pizza over here), and Tav-co and Brennan's ok (comparable to some of the old, semi-dumpy pubs on Detroit with pretty good food), the barbeque place and Lopez usually good options. "Taste" is a nice surprise with great food which many people don't even think of. Stone oven and On the Rise, awesome pastry.... I would really love for a Deagan's to open on Lee! Alex at Quintana's is another neighborhood asset like Smith (in the Cedar/Taylor area) that is all about improving things. There are several reasons that CH isn't experiencing what Lakewood has been, but I'm holding out hope that things will stabilize and improve especially considering the tight market Lakewood has become and the increased popularity of University Circle. FYI, they really needed to fill in that empty spot on Lee with a new building when they had the chance..... Now the space serves as a huge disconnect in an otherwise usually vibrant district. Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are some good options on Larchmere and Shaker Square as well.

I was in Lakewood for the first time in awhile Monday night (Holly wanted Angelo's) and had forgotten how many different little places there are there. Few of which are chains. Nearly all of Madison is amazingly chain-free. Take that Detroit Avenue!!! The old Grafton (new name now) used to let us bring in Angelo's Pizza since they didn't have food. Unlike Angelo's, they had ample parking and allowed smoking. It was a great example of synergy, I thought.

Could be, but why would one close suddenly and not the others? Especially if franchised. That was definitely not the only one to abruptly close, just the only one we have heard of in this area.
April 4, 20169 yr ^ oh shoot i used to like to get relatives gift certificates for quaker steak, glad i havent lately if they are having troubles and closing up.

And GiGi's, and Luna, and Stone Oven, and On the Rise, and Dewey's, and Vero, and Grum's, and Picadilly, and Pacific East, and Mister Brisket, etc. (I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.) And then of course all of the places in Little Italy, Uptown, Shaker Square, and Larchmere right on the fringes. I'm not convinced the Heights is all that far behind Lakewood in variety and quality of food options.
April 19, 20169 yr First look inside the new Plum Cafe (at least first I've seen). Looks sharp. I love the concept. Hopefully the execution is solid. Now Open: The Plum Cafe in Ohio City http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/04/19/now-open-the-plum-cafe-in-ohio-city

May 6, 20169 yr Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville to open in the east bank of the flats in the space that was supposed to be Toby Keith's before the Phoenix company went bankrupt
May 8, 20169 yr ^ now that makes better sense, especially given jimmy buffet's mysterious, never ending popularity in ne ohio and his ability to pack them in at blossom when ever he wants. they do need a country-themed place though, so i am holding out hopeful for a more rowdy, hip and fun joint like coyote ugly.
