Massimo da Milano' date=' on W. 25 St, is closing. I haven't been there in years, but it was a great restaurant. Its been there for at least 30 years. Truly a pioneer for that part of Ohio City. However, the PD just glosses over it--and this is where I learned of it closing. It should at least say why....[/quote']

Finally. Published today, the PD writes a story on Massimo di Milano giving proper tribute.

Two late-night spots coming to downtown... first up and most notable, it seems DPDough is moving into 230 Euclid Avenue where Jimmy John's used to be. According to the door they will be open until 4AM

A proper tribute for Massimo de Milano would've been for them to clean up the plates on a Saturday night instead of leaving a dirty dining room visible from the window well into Sunday.

I was wondering if Cleveland.com would include a photo of the iconic Escalade parked on the sidewalk in their slideshow... it barely snuck in there

Just saw him cruising through Ohio City in his silver Escalade, stogie in month. Props to him for sticking around threw the dark years and making sure we did't lose the forest city savings building. I hope he keeps up his presence around town and best of luck to the new tenants.

Took my gorgeous wife out for a romantic dinner last night at the Marble Room. It was a good crowd for a frigid, Wednesday night. The food is very good but not great. The filet mignon was outstanding but the potato gratin was watery. The lobster tail was OK. My wife said the duck was very good but her potato cake was great. The salads were good but almost too large -- I ran out of room for the main course. The portions were surprisingly large for a fancy restaurant. It is a beautiful place and recommend it. The music was subtle "vibe" style and wasn't too loud or too soft IMHO. Weekend reservations are impossible to get less than two weeks in advance. Here's the beautiful restaurant and a special lady who made it even more beautiful.....

Great pictures!  Looks like it was a great night... restaurant is missing one thing, in my opinion... a grand piano!  Guess we're about 30 years too late for that to be normal decor at a fancy restaurant.

I'm definitely grabbing a drink there sometime in the near future. Thanks for the photos.

^Yes, the place looks really cool. Can one just stop in for a drink? That is, is there a bar ?

Yes, there is a bar and you can stop in just for a drink.

The bar is visible in a couple of my photos (4th and 13th).

Very nice--will check it out this weekend!

Grand opening alert! ????

Lucy Restaurant & Bar is opening at 11 am tomorrow (12/30) in the former Casablanca (2218 Broadview). It will be the only restaurant serving #Ethiopian food on #CLE's West Side! Support local – go check it out! More info: https://t.co/M4l6aT3FrQ. https://t.co/xrMubqNxC2

^Cool. Will check it out.

Was looking for a restaurant near 77-Rockside and found this place. Unfortunately, it looks like this place closed fairly soon after it opened. Didn't have many good reviews....

https://www.yelp.com/biz/rodizio-grill-cleveland

The Rodizio Grill spot was a curious Valley View/Cinemark-adjacent location choice for a pricey, somewhat special occasion Brazllian steakhouse (in direct competition with the larger, better Texas de Brazil in Woodmere and Crocker Park). With that said, this chain is having issues and closed other locations around the same time - including one in Cincinnati, as well as some past locations. so appears they are having growing pains in other places, too.

With zero fanfare, Sushi Rock has replaced Roxu in Lakewood. After a few weeks of looking near empty I'm finally starting to see customers inside. I can't remember the last time a restaurant opened without any media attention whatsoever.

I’ll put this here since they do serve food and As well as the entertainment aspect, Topgolf Cleveland will be opening in Independence in 2019

Excited much??

Cool, though not sure what is meant by a "private-dining venue" a new place on the 15th floor of the IMG Bldg on E 9 St:

"Penthouse on Ninth" - a new private-dining venue - will open on the 15th floor and seat as many as 100 people with downtown views."

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2018/02/sausalito_on_ninth_to_open_feb.html

Does that mean its not a restaurant, but you can rent it out for events?

^Who knows. I work in the building, and the whole construction process and management of the space/building has been a disaster

Not happy about The Pickle going away. Does anyone know if they are still going to be apart of the newest Lakefront phase?

Cafe Sausalito opened today in the IMG building.

Looks nice

Cleveland Pickle closed? I used to like that place--my only complaint was sometimes they put too much sauce of some type on it so that it oozed with liquid. (I always had to tell them -- light on the sauce!).  Why'd they close? They seemed to have a pretty good following. Is the Lakewood outpost still open? That one always seemed empty.

So I went to the Corner Bakery café in Columbus when I was there today any word on when they are supposed to open any Cleveland area cafés

Corner Bakery: Franchise plans for Cleveland cancelled for now... Something noted about corporate pulling plug on franchisee.

Well that sucks

Was it discussed that Ohio City Burrito is opening a location downtown on Superior /6th?  I was surprised to see their signage today walking by.

lol ill take that as a yes.  Ill try to get on the forum more often

I don't think that was a "yes" as much as a "yes, YES, YESSSSSSSS!" ?

2018 James Beard Award Semifinalist

Feb 15, 2018

https://www.jamesbeard.org/blog/the-2018-james-beard-award-semifinalists

NEO had two nominees in the Best Chef:Great Lakes category.  Karen Small from Flying Fig in Ohio City (http://www.theflyingfig.com/) and Jill Vedaa from Salt in Lakewood. (http://www.saltcleveland.com/) Every year the category is dominated by chefs from Chicago and this year is no different. 13 out of 20 of the nominees are from Chicago. Cincinnati also received a nomination for Jose Salazar at Mita's.

Ohio didn't receive any other nominations in any category.

Finalists will be announced on March 14.

Ribs coming to W. 25 St.

"The Rib Cage Smokehouse and Bar, a fixture in Cleveland Heights since 2012, is expanding to West 25th Street in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood.

The barbecue restaurant plans to open by "end of April, beginning of May," said Brandon Hill, general manager and son of Robert Hill, who owns both locations. The restaurant on Lee Road in Cleveland Height will remain open. The Ohio City restaurant will be at 1979 W. 25th St., in the spot formerly occupied by Orale Contemporary Mexican Kitchen....."

well a few of my relatives have been saying that although they did not win the infamous $5M+ queen of hearts drawing that made national news, they have been winning smaller potatos stuff for like a few hundred bucks regularly at the grayton road tavern. that is all.

Damnit!!!! That one hurts.

Aw well, at least only the one is closing....still two left.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've never really understood the love for this place. Don't get me wrong, I like their Polish Boy, but the ribs and chicken are just ok. It seems to almost be regarded as a Cleveland culinary "must try" for out of towners. I wouldn't agree.

Is there a mechanism by which I can appeal the UO moderators to lodge sanctions against a user???

I actually agree with this take.  The Polish Boy is great but everything else is just meh.  But then again good BBQ has always been lacking in Cleveland but it's getting better.

It looked like they had some barriers around the old stir crazy at Legacy Village today I don’t know if anything is going in there soon anyone hear any word?

Poor Coffee Phix (South Euclid). Closes in late April unless they find a buyer.

It was an interesting ride.
