October 10, 20186 yr The Driftwood Group buys Otto Moser's Restaurant The Driftwood Group has purchased Otto Moser's on Euclid Avenue downtown and hopes to open a new restaurant in mid to late January, the company's founder Scott Kuhn said. Construction starts Monday, he said, and the new name will be Republic Food and Drink. The spacious restaurant will undergo a makeover that includes segregating the bar from the dining area and expanding the patio out front. "Republic is an America tavern pub-type restaurant that will specialize in sandwiches to prime rib to foods that people are really comfortable with," he said. With the opening, the 14-year-old Driftwood Group continues to establish itself in a primary area that the company embraces: Playhouse Square. In the district, the company also owns Bin 216, with a focus on small bites and wine, and the Italian restaurant Cibreo. October 26, 20186 yr Yeah I don’t believe a word he says in that interview. What a tool, good luck with that. You made your bed
October 26, 20186 yr He expects people to believe that his social media manager operates his personal social media accounts. Lol
October 26, 20186 yr Yeah, you were a cook at carrabbas and decide to open a restaurant and all of a sudden you need a social media manager. You aren’t exactly Jeff Bezos. Geesh man, wtf is wrong with people
October 26, 20186 yr I'm not really sure what elicited his response either. No one seemed to say anything bad about the place except that they joked about the ironic name.
October 26, 20186 yr ^Being weak, not being able to handle criticism, probably insecure that he won’t have what it takes to be so good that people just keep coming back, to name a few. If I saw that and was in his shoes, it would just make me wanna work harder
October 26, 20186 yr They were poking fun at his name, but they wanted his business to survive. He clearly doesn't understand much!
October 26, 20186 yr ^ I think they were poking fun at the name because a few businesses have already failed there. So "ciao" seemed like an ironic name, since it means both hello and goodbye.
October 26, 20186 yr ALSO--if the post were indeed by a friend of his as he claims--which no one believes--it still reflects very poorly on him as he's associated and friends with people who think and talk like that, which means he must as well. You'd only trust your close friends to represent you in the world.
October 26, 20186 yr ^Don't worry--he will! Shawn Taylor will appear in an interview-less youtube video wearing a wig, sunglasses, fake tattoo on his cheek, and a new shirt and will talk in an inconsistent southern accent issuing the apology.
October 26, 20186 yr The story he told about the friend is brutal and hard to watch. Something along the lines of I was just texting and it ended up on scenes Facebook page? And “we’ll Figure it out” come on man, do better. Maybe explain why your friend was texting that to someone. What a joke
October 26, 20186 yr ^ These people usually hurt themselves by not owning up to their mistake to begin with. He should've owned and apologized and said that he is under a lot of stress trying to get his business going. I think people might have given him a chance.
October 26, 20186 yr We are a forgiving nation, but I don’t think he would be able to put that toothpaste back in the tube, owning up or not. Three words: color of skin, political stance, gender all in one blast. I assume He didn’t know the commenters or anything about them. If he got defensive and just went back and forth about how he got the name or how he disagrees with them, in a civil manner...I suspect people would forgive him. He just came off as an angry, hot headed pig and I know with all the food options in OC I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way for him
November 3, 20186 yr So what happened? Did the restaurant open? Or is he going to wait a month thinking everyone will forget by then? or will he just open under a new name/concept?

December 19, 20186 yr A post from social media rumor mill: Just want to say that if you’re a fan of Old Fashion Hot Dogs on the Lorain and 41st, you should spend money there. It’s 95% going to be torn down for condos sometime next year. It has been around for 90 years, and owned by the same family for the past 30 years. Also, it has a cleaner kitchen than some fancier restaurants I’ve been in.

That was a big cultural loss. Still sad about that. There just cannot be too many spots like Old Fashioned and Steve's still operating.
January 10, 20196 yr Old Fashioned is good but I was team Steves Lunch all the way. It was a true Cleveland gem. Addys, PJs were great too. Nice to see Addys make a come back. Random memory but was Addys located on Ontario at one point? Either in May Co garage or just to the north? The name came to me this morning, I was remembering Alvies on Ontario. A google search returned that they actually reopened as Mike & Dee's diner at 629 Euclid Avenue. Still need to make it up to Jackflapps on Lorain. I have attempted twice but the wait was too long both times. Edited January 10, 20196 yr by viscomi recollection

My Grandpa and I actually went on a hot dog tour of Cleveland one day when I was like 13-14. We tried a chili dog at Steve’s, Old Fashioned, and the West Side Market and declared Old Fashioned the undisputed champions! Though I was sad to see Steve’s go as well. I’ve literally been in Old Fashioned when someone tried to rob it, just kept my head down and kept shoving my face
January 10, 20196 yr I'm overjoyed Addy's is coming back. I miss PJ's, Huron Square Deli, Sammy's Grill... But it's great to live at the Cleveland-Lakewood Edge where you have two 24-hour diners (Diana's and My Friends) plus the Tick Tock Tavern (also serves breakfast), Lake House (not open Mondays), the reopened Clifton Diner and, my favorite, The Shore. It was a disaster and only open a few months. That had to set him back quite a bit. I think this was mentioned in another thread but we should note Trentina's closure. Trentina had a fairly high profile and had national praise so its a big deal for it to go away. It was also one of the more formal places in town.

I had a poor experience at Trentina, but I'm in a very VERY select few who have - most I know loved it.
