February 11, 20205 yr Curious if yinz have any recommendations for downtown sandwich spots. It'd be great to get some quality meats and not just Giant Eagle-esque deli meat. Sorry if this is the wrong place for the ask...

February 11, 20205 yr Tx. Never heard that name before. Is it really old or someone trying to do some unnecessary branding?
February 11, 20205 yr I Googled Clifton Corners and this is what appears: https://vanguardcleveland.net/clifton-corners.php But the address is wrong, must be a typo.

February 11, 20205 yr It says 15116 Clifton, which would be Lakewood. It probably should be 11516 Clifton.

February 12, 20205 yr So listening to Anthony Lima on the Ken Carmen show this morning, he was adament that E4 is almost on its last legs and there are going to be more closures soon. I mean, the cavs obviously have an impact, but you can't seriously convince me the only viability E4 has is when the Cavs are a championship caliber team can you? Has anyone else been hearing actual substantiating rumors that more closures on the street are on the way? E4 is unique to Cleveland, and to have even more closures would be absolutely devastating.

What basis would he have for this? Also, highly doubt Dante would place A new restaurant there if that were the case.

The Fan has their studios at Playhouse Square. They were of the mindset that PS would become the "it place" downtown and would lure restaurants and bars away from Warehouse District and E4. They didn't offer any evidence as far as I know. Nor do I even remember them even mentioning the Lumen.
February 12, 20205 yr I would think maybe because he's a locally known guy, he has friend of a friend of a friend connections to the big players on E4, but that's pure speculation. I wouldn't think he has much basis but I wanted to check on here if anyone as been hearing unfortunate speculation. Idk where 92.3 is getting the impression that Playhouse Square will be the new "it place." It's always been popular and it caters a completely different crowd.

February 13, 20205 yr I have no information one way or another but if in the next few years one or two places closed I would not be surprised. The shelf life of a couple of the places is getting old. However, that is just the restaurant business in general. A restaurant gets stale after a while. It would be no reflection on East 4th. In my mind it is still hot and with nearby new developments will pretty much stay that way in the near future. Anything that closes will eventually be replaced with something new. February 13, 20205 yr East 4th probably has some of the best numbers in the city. Winter months dip a bit, but they get lunch, dinner and events year. i don’t l think Lima has line of sight into a restaurants financials. Ken certainly doesn’t. I agree w above, you may see something like zocalo or society leave, but it’s getting dense down there. It will get filled in

February 15, 20205 yr Bad news for Sawyer continues: Jonathon Sawyer No Longer Listed as Executive Chef on Sawyer's, SeeSaw Websites; Owners Say Situation Being Assessed https://m.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2020/02/13/jonathon-sawyer-no-longer-listed-as-executive-chef-on-sawyers-seesaws-websites-owners-say-situation-being-assessed?utm_source=feature&utm_medium=home&utm_campaign=hpfeatures&utm_content=HomeFeaturedStoriesCustomMobile After Chef Jonathon Sawyer announced the closure last weekend of Greenhouse Tavern, one remaining question in the wake of the shuttering and news reports covering his operations and various debts was his future with Sawyer's in Van Aken and SeeSaw in Columbus, both owned and operated by the Forward Hospitality Group. As recently as last Friday, Sawyer was listed on each restaurant's websites as partner/executive chef. As Columbus Alive pointed out today, Sawyer is no longer listed on the SeeSaw website. Nate Hall is now listed as executive chef. A similar change was made on the Sawyer's website, where Sawyer's photo and title have disappeared, replaced by co-executive chefs Adam Bauer and Logan Abee. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

February 19, 20205 yr ^ True. I have to say though that “The developers have taken over” is a bit of hyperbole, Cleveland’s got a long way to go until that’s a reality. I have to assume they only rented the space, which seems a little odd after 92 years there. My hovercraft is full of eels
February 24, 20205 yr I went to All Saints (new Irish-ish theme place in the Redstone/Graffiti/Battery Park Pub location) for their opening day Saturday. Quite impressed! The interior (ground floor and upstairs) are very nicely decorated. They put some money into it. Good drink selection. They have a smoked old fashioned (with smoke freshly made at the bar, heh) that is tasty and fun to look at. Just got a cobb salad and wings for food but they were solid. Patio will be open by the time it gets warm(er).

Likely Miracles was the longest, but it does seem as though it should be a great location. Previous to this cursed spot was the 10427 Clifton Spot that was "The cursed restaurant spot", but the Clifton Martini Bar seems to have broken the curse (and it could be the fact that my uncle doesn't own the building anymore).
