My guess is they're going temporarily open it up for the week while Gay games are going on. I believe they did the same thing for St. Patty's last year too?

Has the Cadillac Ranch reopened as the Bank?  Does anyone walk past this area because apparently there is an opening ceremony after party there for the Gay Games.

I had forgotten about that space but apparently the same group who planned to reopen JohnQ's also planned a nightclub and restaurant in the old Cadillac space. I was thinking with the apparent sale of the May Co. those plans were on hold. So I am not sure what is going on...From June 2013:

The Legndary Group has signed a lease and is currently remodeling the former Cadillac Ranch (most recently BarRoom) in Cleveland to house a Las Vegas-style night club.

Donnie Burton, a Cleveland native and president of The Legndary GCE Group, plans to open a tapas-style restaurant in the front room with a high-end dance and entertainment venue in the building’s rear space.

The French restauarant will be called Chateau, while the club in the rear will be called The Bank — Cleveland.

Legndary currently operates the Rumor Lounge in Cleveland.

According to this article posted today they are opening for good on 8/9.

I'm a little confused. I knew that place was in the works but thought perhaps it ended up not happening. Can someone clarify how the space is laid out? I always thought the Barroom space and Cadillac Ranch space were basically one but from this article it sounds like the Bank is only taking up the Barroom space, and Cadillac Ranch's space will remain empty. However they have been doing work on the outside of CR lately including removing the car and lights etc. PS... The May Co. canopy is in dire need of at least a paint job...

Sorry, once again too slow.

On a morning show a couple of days ago Steve Schimoler (Crop)  said he will have a 'game changing announcement'  (his words) in a couple of weeks. Said he wasn't referring to Uptown or FEB.  So whatever game changing means in the restaurant biz idk...

I just wish somebody would take over the old Sammy's spot on W. 10th (of course with good food).  Lots of fond memories.

Just read the article (if you could call it that)...very lame....just a bunch of ill informed babble to accompany pictures.

Cleveland needs a diner downtown.  The city needs a breakfast place bad.

There are plenty of diners on the edge of downtown: Superior Restaurant, Danny's Deli and Slymann's all come to mind and they all have good breakfasts and great corned beef!  Just wished they stayed open past lunch.

^ Huron Square Deli

The 9 will have the Streetcar Deli (or whatever...)

cleveland.com has the absolute worst slideshow layout I've ever seen.

P.J.'s Luncheonette is probably the best cheap place to go for breakfast that is in the heart of downtown and doesn't require driving or a long walk

Yolo the wine bar in battery park will close for good next week.  It is being replaced by CHA a casual pizza place.

Hotspot is also downtown, though obviously not super-walkable where it is located. And I had a twitter conversation with the owner of Pheul Cafe, sounds like they have some delicious and healthy fare, including breakfast.

^^what? I didn't hear that.  What is CHA?

Not a deli but downtown needs a breakfast or diner such as Yours Truly.  In NY you can get breakfast 24/7 at places like Cafateria or Metro Diner on the UWS.

^ today more like a raisin :)

Battery Park Wine Bar to Close. CHA Spirits & Pizza Kitchen to Take its Place

Posted By Douglas Trattner on Fri, Aug 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM

Susan Walters is getting back in the restaurant business. The pioneering restaurant owner and consultant behind such concepts as KeKa and SubStance will take possession of the Battery Park Wine Bar next week. The four-year-old Detroit Shoreway wine bar will close after service this coming Sunday.

Honestly, I was surprised YOLO lasted as long as it did.

Cleveland can support a million restaurants downtown but not one diner?

p28curry[/member] I mentioned it earlier, not sure if you missed it, but what is wrong with PJ's Luncheonette? I would consider it a diner

As for a ton of 24 hour places, Cleveland doesn't have the population to support that.

I'm casting another vote for Pho Thang.  Went for dinner last night and am now happily slurping down my leftovers.  There were a few tables full when we arrived around 6:30, but no one else was there when we left at 7:30.  I was talking to the younger woman that works there and asked if they had been taking their carry out menus to the buildings in the neighborhood.  She said they had done some but hadn't had much time as the only people who work there are her and her mom, dad, brother, and uncle.  She said they'd been doing pretty decent lunch business (dine in and carry out).  I hope they decide to stay open in the evenings!  Grab some menus to distribute and help them out!

i dk about this personally, but i believe the ihop at steelyard is 24/7. i do know the restaurant at the hyatt arcade is all night, or was at least around the weekend, and it serves a fantastic breakfast. regardless, keep piling up the people into downtown and the 24/7 diners will come!

PJ's is good, so is Huron Square Deli and so is Addy's in the Standard Building.

If my neighborhood (Gold Coast/The Edge) can support two 24-hour restaurants (plus two 24-hour drug stores), downtown can EASILY support at least one!

We need a diner not a restaurant.  Especially not an over priced place with poor service like Cafeteria.

We need a diner like the Shack on the Tracks!

Diners with sassy staff are fun!

sassy staff?? in that case all that is needed is a waffle house. actually a downtown waffle house in cle would be very cool and no doubt well loved as all waffle houses are - ha. i saw a new one right smak in the middle of downtown athens, ga under a parking garage, so they have'm, its possible.

I miss the old Best Steak and Gyro on Euclid....

"Banter Beer and Wine" specializing in poutines and craft sausages as well as retail beer and wine and "Local West"-burgers, sandwiches, etc opening in Gordon Square at the intersection of 74th and Detroit.  Will be nice additions to this quiet part of the neighborhood.

Oh for the love of God, no!

I would love to have an Original Pancake house.  But those Waffle Houses are trifflin!  Hopefully one of our chefs will create a breakfast / diner concept.

^ there is no sass at oph. make up yr mind.

of course a local diner would be best, but speaking of the love of god please no "concepts." save that souless corporate restaurant schtick for columbus.

Regardless, the point is Cleveland needs a diner downtown.

yes it definitely does - maybe stark can wedge one into his new gateway development - ha.

A great spot for a 24/7 diner would be the Garfield bldg. right on the corner at E6th/Euclid. The developer mentioned a possible restaurant there when they add residential. Would be a great visible location.

Enter the Ninja: Cleveland bar-eatery Ninja City opens Thursday in University Circle

"You know, McDonald's is all we used to have in this area when I went to school here," says the Case Western Reserve University 2004 grad. "OK, there was also Mr. Hero ... but I could never understand why this area, which has so many students and people walking around, had so little options."

Ten years later, the area is very different – thanks to new shops and eateries and the new Uptown development. The owner of Bac in Tremont decided to jump in with business partner Dylan Fallon to open Ninja City.

"Cleveland is so food-and-drink crazy that I'd be worried opening a new place – except here," says Nguyen. "This is the kind of place I wish would've been here when I was attending Case."

^ Awesome, I hope they do well! I walked by the other day and could see inside. Looks cool

Butcher & Brewer:  One of the owners invited me down to watch the browns game & have a few beers.  They are putting the final pieces together before their grand opening (soon, very soon - they're having friends & family nights later this week, so that should give you an indication).  The place looks great.  Here are a few pics I took with my iPhone (only posting a few - final touches need to be made, and my iPhone pictures don't do the place justice).  Side note:  The bathroom, which looks great, is very unique, at least unique to Cleveland (you'll see what I mean when you check the place out).

wow, it's gorgeous. I'm going there tonight, can't wait.

Yes, the bathroom is definitely unique to Cleveland. It's very "New York"

what does that mean? I can't tell from the pictures how it's different, other than there's a communal hand washing station.

Ha! At first I thought it was a urinal that could be approached from both sides...then I realized that would be the worst idea ever.

For many reasons.

Whenever I see those circular sinks that's what I always think they look like.
