^ah I forgot about those two places. The one in 5th st. isn't open for dinner -- I remember giant portions for lunch--and I've yet to ck out the place as 21 and Euclid. There is another Indian place---fast food like on Chester by CSU--like around 24 St. but it wasn't anything to write home about.

They've had a spot in Collinwood for a while, the west side/Old Brooklyn location opened last week (or maybe the week before?) either way, the facade had been done for maybe a couple months at this point. I assume they had to do a decent amount of work on the inside, but it came out great!

They are NOT open in Collinwood. they are open in Euclid. While they are a tenant in there current location on East 185th (Euclid), last year they purchased the old Sammich location to act as a central kitchen.

Well I'll be, ironically I started the post as east side/Collinwood-Euclid area instead of definitively calling it Collinwood, thanks for the heads up and correction!!

Edited by GISguy

No prob.

Reading back, that may have come off as defensive sounding - not my intention. Just sticking up for the Euclideans. ?

Yeah, Chapati is on Chester, there's also one in Uptown. But I agree, it's not that good.

musky--so i take it they are on side of E 185 Street vs. the other. Given your emphasis on which side (with text in bold and all CAPS), is it a really big deal--maybe for people in that part of town--for folks on the distinction between the two communities? I'm just curious as I've similar things before for that part of town, whereas on the west side people don't make such a big point between Edgewater and Lakewood if someone is talking about which side of W. 117 st something is on.

Fakewood lol.

I already responded

Thanks for your concern though.

Oh, and yes they do.

Nothing else to say here - I'm hungry for some Irie. I think I'll pick up some from the Old Brooklyn location on my way home.

They'll be sharing the space on Huron Road with Whistle & Keg. Unfortunately, not filing any voids but their food caters to the drunk crowd so it should do okay sharing that space.

will they occupy the AJ Rocco's space?

Both existing locations have 3 stars on Yelp.

You were so close @YABO713

^Looks cool--will have to check it out.  Speaking of new restaurants in Ohio City---I was wondering what happened to the Ciao Bistro guy who wrote offensive things on facebook calling someone two women "Liberal White C---s".  Doing some research, it looks like he opened up afterall, but the place is now closed after some mixed reviews. The last two reviews -- and the only two from 2019 were pretty bad on yelp.

Was it the location? Bad food? Or did people boycott his place ultimately forcing him to close?  Just curious.

So my wife and I used to loveeeeeee Cha. It was hands down our favorite pizza in the city. They opened there before Ciao bistro (moving from Battery Park)... and I talked with one of the waiters before they closed and the dispute with the landlord got so bad that the owner literally just walked away from the business.

As for Ciao, I walked by all the time and no one was ever in there, but from my understanding it was BYOB and not the most efficient restaurant. There is a new venture currently going in there now that look promising. The location is excellent if you can get the marketing and publicity to match it.

Important note: they can reopen as soon as they pay the taxes. They have posted that it was due to an administrative error so I expect it will be corrected and reopened soon.

The phone is disconnected and they deleted social media accounts.    Clearly not the moves of a business owner looking to reopen shortly.  Unless they work for the Trump Organization?   ?

Yeah...sounds kinda sketchy to me. But I hope for a quick rebound.

Now that one hurts. It''s in that Tommy's/Corky's and Lenny's/Great Lakes Brewery category of restaurants my parents actually don't hate.

Fooey.

I'll work on getting better photos, but here's the new Half Moon Bakery and some Argentinian styled empanadas

All of the empanadas I've ever had were closed and filled with savory ingredients.  I did a quick google search for Argentinian empanadas and the pictures showed them closed, not open.  I"m interested if this open style is regionally specific or if they put their own twist on an empanada and made it more like a taco.

You're going to hate me for this but I got a vanilla and chocolate flan (...not both for me lol) but chocolate was amazing, my gf definitely approved of the vanilla haha. Also got some tarts, they didn't seem as impressive but still there were a ton of blueberries in them, definitely with giving another shot haha

FWIW, I was in Buenos Aires last month and all the empanadas I had were closed. It's possible a different part of the country makes them differently.

yep i have only seen them closed in argentina --- and in argentina empanda joints around ny.

the braided seal style is a called repulgue -- and they are given an egg wash before baking to seal it further and give it a shiny look.

there are probably open styles though, i don't see why not.

i dk if open is a modern style, but i do see that everybody everywhere is definitely into open taco styles these days, including korea and japan.

Great news for Bottlehouse. While I haven't had the Tinman burger (looks good) I was able to check out Sauce the City at the Ohio City Galley and wow, that Cleveland Hot Chicken sandwich is worth every penny.

Popular Tinman Burger to Land Permanent Home at Eugene Kitchen at BottleHouse Lakewood

Posted By Douglas Trattner on Wed, Jan 15, 2020

Michael Schoen made a splash at the Ohio City Galley with his OG Tinman Burger, a double smash burger with American cheese, special sauce, and sweet and spicy pickles on a brioche bun. When Schoen ended his Galley residency at year’s end, fans were understandably heartbroken but clinging to reports that it – and its creator – would soon find a more permanent home.

That home has been found in Lakewood, says Schoen.

“I was approached by the guys from the BottleHouse about six or seven months ago,” he explains. “They asked me to take over the kitchen space at their brewery in Lakewood. It’s a huge kitchen that isn’t really being utilized.”  It’s been about four years since the Cleveland Heights-based brewery took over the former Sullivan's Irish Pub space (13368 Madison Ave.) in the Birdtown neighborhood of Lakewood to focus on its line of meads. The large kitchen, when it was used at all, was the province of pop-up providers and caterers, who supplied the food for a never-ending stream of private events like weddings, baby showers and bachelorette parties.

I just read in the Case Alumnus magazine that Choolaah (founded and owned by CWRU grads) is planning a location in Ohio City. I hadn’t heard anything about so I went digging - Scene had covered this in November. Great news for Ohio City!

“Next up for the quickly expanding brand is Ohio City. The design process is under way to transform a 3,000-square-foot space on W. 25th Street, currently home to Howard Hanna (1903 W. 25th St.) into location number seven. Projections place opening day somewhere in the fourth quarter of 2020. ”

(That address is right next to Town Hall.)

Does this mean that Howard Hanna is closing?

Wife and I did Marble Room yesterday.  Absolutely top notch food and service.  We stuck around the bar afterward for drinks too.  Really nothing else like it in Cleveland, I highly recommend.

Pizza place coming to East Fourth Street. Should be a nice, quick option addition to that street. I wonder what's going with that corner unit that's still for lease after Bruell & co. left it.

I also like the addition of Six Shooter. Compared to other options in the area Erie Island is pretty terrible, good to see some quality coffee on that street.

Agreed! Erie Island has their shop on the corner of East 18th and Euclid so it still exists and provides campus another option for coffee that isn't Starbucks or Joe Max.

I was just thinking that.  It’s insane it’s still vacant.

Roman Café sounds like a cool new option for the area! Citizen Pie has some of the best pizza in the city, so I'm sure the owner won't disappoint with this new venture. Plus Six Shooter will be amazing to have downtown - some of the best coffee in the city. I'm very excited!
