The entire place is grandma's basement retro. Kinda silly, kinda unique.

haha yeah the lawn chairs and astroturf grass is kinda funny, but weird.

they want to grab your immediate attention --- and i guess it beats traditional red checkered table clothes.

Grabbed a slice Sunday. It’s good stuff.

It does a pretty good job of hiding throw up. At least that's what I have observed walking past Good Night John Boy after 10 pm on a weekend.

People keep dancing and mingling on top of it.

^ Sounds like great news!

I do have a couple of questions; What does ‘TI’ mean? The post is clearly written by commercial real estate, for a commercial real estate audience. In fact, I had to read it twice to confirm that, yes the space has actually been let!

Secondly, who is the mystery tenant, who already has a 5,000 sq ft ‘concept’ in the area?!?

My hovercraft is full of eels

TI = tenant improvements

That should be a prime spot once that riverfront gets going. Excited to see the plans.

K Society Smoothie Bar prepares to open in downtown Cleveland

K Society Smoothie Bar is preparing to open in downtown Cleveland.

K Society's new location is in the former leasing office of the Bridgeview Apartments at 1300 W. 9th St, a former grocery store warehouse that was converted into apartments in the late 1990s.

K Society hosted a soft opening this past weekend as design work continues in the shop. There's no signage outside yet, and artwork is still being completed in the space, but the smoothie bar still served guests and even cooked complimentary hot dogs and hamburgers.

The Astro Restaurant to open at Tower City in downtown Cleveland

The Astro Restaurant, a themed restaurant planned in downtown Cleveland, plans to open sometime later this year.

The restaurant will be located at Tower City Mall in the former Hard Rock Cafe, which has been closed since 2016, according to Cleveland.com.

A statement from Tower City said The Astro Restaurant will be a "one-of-a-kind" science-fiction-style restaurant.

Roaming Biscuit to Open Flagship Cafe in Ohio City in July

The shop will sell biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and early lunch

By Douglas Trattner on Wed, Jun 28, 2023

Moye originally launched Roaming Biscuit because she couldn’t find locally what she had grown to love and expect in the South. With the new flagship shop in Ohio City, she is further realizing her longtime goal.

“In those states, there were always biscuits on the menu,” Moye explains. “But when I moved back to Cleveland, it was hard to find a homemade breakfast sandwich during the week. On weekends you could always go to a restaurant and find a wonderful breakfast sandwich. I didn’t see anyone doing biscuits Monday through Friday, so I decided to start this.”

Walking out of the Guardians game tonight, I noticed, not for the first time recently, that re:bar is hopping and that new Parlay place next door in the old Panini’s spot, was closed yet again. I just looked online and sure enough, it’s closed down. That must be some kind of record. Only opened at the end of Feb and by my reckoning has probably been closed for at least a month already.

My hovercraft is full of eels

the concept seemed DOA

The dumbest thing they did was tint the windows and have poor signage indicating it was open. I only went once and they had a lock on the door that was barely open and was very awkward once I went in. A business can thrive there and hopefully since it was redone recently a new concept can make minor enhancements and go from there.

^Yeah. I find tinted windows very off-putting in general, but it’s a dumb move in a high visibility, high foot-traffic spot like that. Not at all inviting.

Agree 100 percent. And I think this sentiment also applies to whoever opened or plans to open at INTRO.

I went into Parlay for a drink on Opening Day. It's a beautiful space and the owner was very friendly, but I could not agree more on the windows and signage. It's in a super high visibility corner, yet did not look open. If that space had garage style doors that opened up, I think the place would do very well. Let's just hope the next owner makes the changes needed for it to succeed.

Edda, the coffee shop at Intro has those tinted windows which make it hard to look in, but they have the style of garage doors and boy does it make a world of a difference for street presence.

Whenever I see a place with tinted windows I assume it's because they think that if potential customers see their actual customers they won't want to come in.

Edison's Next Door Pizza replaces Edison's Pizza Kitchen in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood

Edison's Next Door Pizza has opened, as its name suggests, next door to Edison's Pub in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood after a few months of renovations.

The pizzeria is connected to Edison's Pub at 2365 Professor Ave., taking over the former Edison's Pizza spot.

Next Door Pizza is operated by Pete LaGrange, the son of Edison's Pub owner Mark LaGrange, who also owns the for-sale building formerly home to the Parallax restaurant.

Does anyone know if the "other" Edison's still opening?

Rumors are they may not be opening a Tremont location again, which will be a big bummer. Luckily, I live in Lakewood.

So is this group completely different? I think I got that pizza every weekend after the bars closed when I lived in Tremont.

Yes, completely different group. The Edisons group (who runs the 117th one) that closed prior in Tremont I believed were pushed out by the pub/building owner. The new operation is run by the pub owner and the old owners were supposed to open a new location in Tremont nearby, but not sure if that is happening anymore.

Thanks to the Cleveland Bill Bot on Twitter I've uncovered some details on the restaurant moving into the long vacant spot at 12104 Larchmere Blvd: https://cityofcleveland.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6283103&GUID=1A7CC268-6449-450D-BDEF-5980C2130A6F

It appears the restaurant will be called Colina. The associated LLC is tied to Margaret and Adrien Aeschliman, the latter of whom owned Italian restaurants in Baltimore last decade before moving to Cleveland:

That’s very confusing.

My understanding is that "Edison's" was never trademarked and the recipes resided with the bar and owner of 40 years, not the other way around. So there was a spat between bar and the "new" Edison's group (who operated next door to the bar) and since it wasn't trademarked they ran with their idea to Lucky's. Edison's Bar = Edison's Pizza. I wasn't completely sober when I was talking w/someone about this but that's how I came to understand it (or I'm completely remembering wrong...).

Either way, I came away from it pro-Edison's (bar) vs Edison's (pizza).

It looks like they're working on the space that was Pour Coffee on Literary Rd in Tremont. Bags with the name "Nirvana Coffee" are lined up in the window and looks like there will be seating now, or at least a counter.

A restaurant called Steak to take over former Parallax spot in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood

Steak is set to take over the former Parallax space in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.

The new steakhouse by Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona, Jason Beudert and Chelsea Williams —which is stylized in its branding as "STEAK" — will take over the empty restaurant unit at 2179 W. 11th St. The trio recently opened Geraci's Slice Shop in downtown Cleveland.

Steak's menu will, of course, feature steaks. Pork chops, seafood and cocktails will also be served.

Guanaquitas Restaurante Now Open in Former Big Egg Space in Detroit Shoreway

This is the second restaurant from the owner of Pupuseria y Antojitos Guanaquitas

By Douglas Trattner

on Fri, Aug 4, 2023

The former Big Egg spot (5107 Detroit) is vacant no longer as Blanca Hernandez, owner of the four-year-old Pupuseria y Antojitos Guanaquitas (2998 W. 25th St., 216-862-1082) restaurant in Clark-Fulton, today opens the doors to her second restaurant, appropriately called Guanaquitas Restaurante 2.

Unlike Pupuseria y Antojitos Guanaquitas, which serves strictly Salvadoran foods like tortas, tacos, pupusas and carne asada, this latest restaurant will offer a blend of traditional Salvadoran and Spanish items alongside American diner-style foods.

The full-service restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

i agree - it is very good and sorely needed.

Everyone go to Luna so we can convince them to stay open on the weekends too.

I've gone both mornings its been open and I'll probably go back tomorrow. The foods great, I've had the breakfast burrito and the almond croissant - both very tasty and there's lots left on the menu I want to try. I've only done take out so far, but the vibes are good. I could see myself doing some work in here or, fingers crossed, grabbing an easy weekend brunch.

hate to say that this concept gets a little more diminished and disappointing with every update. this got scaled from a three storey bar to one floor with a banquet room upstairs. hope all is going well tho.

Market 42 to be part of 'gateway commercial' district in Brunswick

Real estate developer Nick Kyriazis expects to break ground next week on Market 42 — a multicultural public market in Brunswick, Ohio, that could rival the likes of Cleveland's West Side Market.

Kyriazis, a Greek immigrant, and his Columbus-area collaborators, Necol and John Washington, are developing the market at 2099 Pearl Road, near a protected wetland habitat east of Pearl Road (aka Ohio Route 42, which lends the market part of its name) and north of Sleepy Hollow Road.

In addition to an 8,0000-square-foot market, the partners are planning a boardwalk and nature walk to accommodate outdoor events and connect the community with nearby natural areas. They also are developing land behind the market as the site for 18 townhouses to be built by Drees Homes, Kyriazis said during a recent interview.

Looks like Tost in Tremont is finally getting ready to open and will (eventually?) be a small market in addition to sandwich shop:

"The Tremont store is also located in a highly residential area that doesn’t have a conveniently located grocery store on the block. Karakostas plans on expanding the market offerings at the new Tost to include fresh produce, frozen food, and dry goods. The Lakewood Tost mainly offers deli accessories and international products, so it will be a significant expansion."

I drive by that spot about 2-3 times a week and it didn’t look like a lot of activity but glad to see it’s still happening. Sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood.

Sidenote, I peeked into the new AJ Rocco space and there's still framing up everywhere (but workers inside, so there's that) but sheesh so much for opening spring of 2023, might be spring of 2024 at this pace. Cle dot had an optimistic article a few weeks ago, I'm not seeing it happening anytime soon.

Also finally saw some building activity inside the very long ago proposed Birdtown Brewing Co. in Lakewood.

If anyone has needed a good contractor in the past year or so you know how difficult the situation currently is.

You just missed me! I'm in there right now and it is indeed really swanky. Excellent food as well.

Cleveland Midtown Food Truck Park wins planning commission nod

The Midtown Food Truck Park won conceptual approval on Friday for its design of a four-truck park in Cleveland's Midtown business district.

The park, which has been in the planning for two years, would be located at 7412 Carnegie Ave. and feature an amphitheater and walk-up mini-bar, each made from a 20-foot shipping container, said Derrick Childs, director of construction design for Container Homes USA, the project's general contractor, during the City Planning Commission meeting on Friday.

The property's owner Holmes Property Investments LLC and the general contractor also would convert an existing garage into a sports bar that would operate seven days a week, Childs said.

That place looks great. Menu is very expensive! Were they that expensive when they were in the Colonial Arcade? I remember it being much cheaper. Higher rent and inflation, I know, but its still pretty expensive. Was it worth it?
