Man you must be up to your elbows in diapers!  Is your toddler potty trained yet?

Congratulations!

Congrats-hope to see the family out on a stoll this summer on the viaduct!

Congrats to Cleveland's "newest" resident!

Congrats, 3231, on hijacking the restaurant openings thread with news of your baby!  Unless she's planning on cooking us all a delicious dinner for Valentine's day, I find this entire conversation to be very inappropriate.    :-D

Then again, I MAE be the only one here who feels this way...

Dude, get it right. It is St. Valentine's Day. Oh, and MAE be I'll actually invite you over if she does whip up a meal.

Anyways, good to hear about La Tortilla Feliz.

^eh?  What about LTF?

They are re-opening.  I don't really understand that.  If they were doing poorly enough to make what must be a major decision in closing, how are they re-opening?  My guess is they got an influx of customers when the closing was announced and made some money, but I can't think that will be sustainable.

I've only been there twice but my experiences seem to be average from what I hear from other people - very slow/not good service and average food/hit-miss.

My opinion!  and what others have mentioned.

I certainly want to support locals when I can but nothing drove me back there, not even the news that they were going out of business. I was kind of "aw, too bad" but am really surprised at the re-opening news.

By the way, this was posted on the bricco website... which i find pretty exciting... in particular the hours of operation (well maybe the wine part too  :drunk:)

"The Bricco Cleveland location opened in February of 2008. We are located directly across from Playhouse Square in the Hanna Building, just a short walk from Jacob's Field, Quicken Loans Arena and CSU Bricco features late night hours making it the perfect place before or after the game or show. Modeled after the original Akron location, we feature the same great food, beverage selections and value. Our full - service bar has over 100 beers, 200 wines and a great selection of martinis. On Sunday and Monday we feature all bottled wines at state minimum retail pricing.

Kitchen Hours: Mon-Thu: 11AM - Midnight, Fri-Sat: 11AM - 1AM, Sun: 3PM - 10PM"

I like the cross pollenation of restaruants, theaters, and music venues from Akron to Cleveland (Bricco, Bang and Clatter, new venue at 2527).

Whats up with 806?  Is it closed?  There website has been shutdown and their number is disconnected.  What the hell?

From the website:

"Former site of The 806 Martini & Wine Bar ( aka 806 Wine Bar / 806 Martini Bar ), (which was) located in the historic Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio."

^wow that is a loss.

so, not a loss in the typical sense of the word...

"Owner Tom Leneghan has had a prospective buyer running and leasing it for the past year, with an option to buy the five-year-old bar. But no sale's gone through, and Leneghan is getting "a little nervous."

...

"The bar closed two weeks ago for what Leneghan calls "routine" maintenance. It should reopen by March 1.

Also in the article: "P.J. McIntyre's, an Irish pub and music venue at Kamm's Corners that opened last September... That project has gone so well that Leneghan is considering other locations, possibly including one on the soon-to-be-redeveloped Flats' east bank."

Edit: moved to correct thread. Mah bad.

Has anyone tried the new Elements Bistro on Euclid yet?

Ate lunch at Bricco today.  Good food.  Slow service (only 2nd day being open so I can forgive).  Very nice interior.  Nice bar but no draft beers and two very small flatscreens.  Decent crowd.  Too pricey to be a regular lunch spot but I will definitely hit it up from time to time.

I walked by it a couple of nights ago and it was doing good business.  I think one of the shows had just let out, so that helps.  Hopefully it will do alright on non-show nights.

i would think that as the playhouse square area continues to build and grow (particuarly with all these new little tech companies) that this could become a pretty solid post work happy hour type place... i mean there's really nothing else over that way.

i can't imagine that will stay that way... their website says they have over 100 beers available...

"Nice bar but no draft beers"

What?!?

I know, I was expecting a nice spread of taps.

Nice bar but no draft beers and two very small flatscreens.

too bad on the draft beers, but good news on the small tv screens.  too too many places these days are adding giant flat screens for the illogical reason of 'because we can'  or better yet, 'why not'  in my mind and another forumer, the vibe inside the recently opened Wonder Bar is killed by the giant screens....

I would love someone to try to make a list of bars that don't have TVs at all.  I would probably start going out to the bars again just to give these people my business.  But you can't think of any, can you.  I can't.

^ and ^^ Agreed.  Was a bit disappointed to see a flat screen at the bar area of Crop a few nights ago.  I guess it'd be OK if the bar were in a separate room...but not when visible from the dining area.

The old bar at Great Lakes.

eh?  you mean the Tasting Room?

No, the Taproom.

And so there is a TV there, LOL.  As many times as I've been there, I've actually never paid attention to the fact there's a TV there.  Usually when I go to a bar, I don't pay attention to the TVs unless they're screaming at me.

EDIT: Maybe I'm just too in love with the beautiful bar to pay attention to the TV.

One place I love the TV at the bar...Johnny Mango...especially since when I go there to watch the Cavs, no one else in the bar is interested and I get a nice seat right up in front...and dollar tacos...getting hungry...

stone madd in detroit shoreway (not yet open) pledges to not have any tv's.

i like rock&roller's idea/challenge of a list of bars/cafes in (greater?) cleveland sans television(s)....

is there a more applicable location to start a new thread?

I would say a new thread in this board sounds like a good idea.

Speaking of Stone Madd, does anyone know if it is still on schedule to open by St. Patrick's Day?

I would say a new thread in this board sounds like a good idea.

Yes, Please start a new thread for that.

^I don't think stone mad will open before June.  There is a 1200 foot mosiac that needs to go in, and there are a few weeks away from getting that done.

Does the mosaic need to be installed in order for them to start serving beer?  That's one thing I haven't understood about this venue from a business perspective.  You'd think with all the buzz around them that they'd want to open by one of their "projected" dates before people completely give up.  And they've spent how much money without a single sale yet?  Open up already and make yourself some moo-la!

On Jan. 3, Moha Orchid shuttered his Lakewood restaurant, Venezia (16300 Detroit Ave., 216.226.0006). "I haven't taken a vacation or seen my relatives in five years," the chef said. "I figured January was a good time to get away and recharge the batteries." Following a trip back home to Morocco, then Paris, Orchid returned last week and re-opened the restaurant.

From what Ive heard about this place and the randomness that people have experienced, this doesnt surprise me one bit...

Although most reports are the food is really good, you cant always assume they are open, or that the chef is in at any given time.

The biggest problem there is extremely slow service. It's like he's the only one in the kitchen and there's only one waitress, and English isn't her first language (for example, she didn't know what a vegetarian was).  I took some people to lunch there and it took well over 2 hours before we were done at the restaurant.

Ive heard that too....  So what did you think of the food?  Worth the unpredictable nature of going there?

What I had was good but what other people had was kind of uneven as I recall.  Either not tasty or not prepared right, but it was long enough ago that I can't remember which.  At any rate given how lunch went we weren't in a rush to get back and I've not returned.

RE: Stone Mad...it will be worth the wait

I see on craigslist that Melting Pot is opening a Rocky River location.

Yeah in the new West Gate

w00t not

^^^^^^^^^

Melting Pot...kind of like going to the Zoo with friends: You have to go and try to have fun and when it's over, you vow never to go back.

Do you go to the Doctor's office and examine yourself while the Doctor watches? Why go to a restaurant to cook your own food and pay handsomely for it?

(BTW, I love to do Fondue AT HOME with the wife and shorties...its lots of fun)
