August 24, 200816 yr Sounds good I'll be sure to visit. The first certified "green" restaurant in Ohio—the GreenHouse Tavern—is looking for artwork made of recycled/reused material by local artists. They will be opening in the winter of 2008 on East 4th street, in downtown Cleveland. For more information, contact Everest Curley at [email protected] http://www.gcbl.org/
August 26, 200816 yr Apparently Bob Golic's sports bar opens tomorrow... Bob Golic's Sports Bar & Grille to open in Warehouse District Friday, August 22, 2008 John PetkovicPlain Dealer Columnist Whoa, watch where you're stepping -- someone let the Dawgs out in the Warehouse District. Woof, woof, Bob Golic's Sports Bar & Grille will have a "soft opening" -- bar-restaurant jargon for exhibition game -- from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. It opens officially Thursday with an opening bash coinciding with that night's Browns-Bears game. "The place is going to have a lot of jerseys, articles and pictures from the old days," says Golic, who played with the Browns from 1982 to 1988. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
August 26, 200816 yr Anyone been to Americano in Bratenahl? I understand it is a casually priced menu with creatively prepared high quality ingredients. I also understand it is on the waterfront, within a condo complex, though the restaurant is open to the public.
August 28, 200816 yr Someone needs to tell Petkovic at the PD that Mike Golic is the NutriSystem spokesman, not his brother Bob Golic. I can't tell him because of employment issues...... August 28, 200816 yr Considering how many people from the PD lurk on this forum, you'd think someone would have told him by now. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 2, 200816 yr There used to be speculation that "Black Finn" and "La Strada" or "Hush" restaurants were going to be on East 4th street. Did those places fall through? Anyone know other projects in the east 4th area besides greenhouse?
September 2, 200816 yr La Strada is finishing up construction. It's been a little slow lately, but still going. Hush was to go where The Greenhouse Tavern is going, so I'm guessing that isn't happening anymore. Signs for Blackfin are still out, but I haven't seen any visible progress since they did the demolition.
September 2, 200816 yr There used to be speculation that "Black Finn" and "La Strada" or "Hush" restaurants were going to be on East 4th street. Did those places fall through? Anyone know other projects in the east 4th area besides greenhouse? I'm not sure what happened with Hush, but that space is being taken up by Greenhouse. La Strada should be opening up any day now (is it open already?). Black Finn is next. Maron has its own crew and they are methodical. I think that once they finish La Strada, you'll see some action at Black Finn. The crew is also busy finishing the apartments above Corner Alley.
September 2, 200816 yr When are corner alley apartments opening and is there a website for those because that would be an ideal ocation for me.
September 2, 200816 yr When are corner alley apartments opening and is there a website for those because that would be an ideal ocation for me. i don't know when they would be open. Maybe this winter or next spring. I'd look on the east 4th website for MRN's leasing office number and then give them a call.
September 3, 200816 yr Was bummed to read today that Eddie Sand's Blue Line Cafe in Shaker was closing. But excited to read about Felice on Larchmere. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/122043085589550.xml&coll=2

But excited to read about Felice on Larchmere. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/122043085589550.xml&coll=2 Oh boo, I liked Blue Line too, when I lived right down the street at least.
September 4, 200816 yr Too sad! I really liked that place, but honestly "thought" about going there more than I ever actually went. Good to hear about the Shaker Square and Larchmere additions. I usually read Restaurant Row every week, but there's a newspaper thief on my block, so I haven't gotten my paper in over a week.
September 5, 200816 yr Chef Zach Bruell transforming former That Place on Bellflower by Joe Crea / The Plain Dealer Thursday September 04, 2008, 6:08 PM RESTAURANT ROW Restaurateur Zach BruellA longtime landmark restaurant in the University Circle area is set for transformation. The former That Place on Bellflower will soon reopen as a moderately priced neo-brasserie with a new name. The man behind the reinvention is one of Cleveland's most creative and exacting restaurateurs: Zach Bruell, chef-owner of Parallax in Tremont and creator of Table 45 at the Cleveland Clinic's InterContinental Hotel and Conference Center. More at http://www.cleveland.com/goingout/index.ssf/2008/09/chef_zach_bruell_transforming.html
September 5, 200816 yr That's great news - I always felt That Place was overrated and didn't serve its population well (other than the Orchestra crowd). I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood.
September 11, 200816 yr I took a walk around the Warehouse District today and saw that the Rockefeller Cafe will be opening on the corner of West 6th and Superior in the Rockefeller Building. It's nice to see one less empty storefront.
September 12, 200816 yr Have people been trying Elements at CSU? I keep hearing it is great for the biz lunch. I have not made it since I have been too busy for lunch in what seems like months
September 12, 200816 yr Not sure if this has been mentioned, but there is some new restaurant opening up in the old Sage space in Tremont across from Lincoln Park.
September 12, 200816 yr That's great news! That's such a prime location (IMHO) and it's a shame it's been vacant for this long. Of course, I know nothing else about it...

It opens officially Thursday with an opening bash coinciding with that night's Browns-Bears game. had a chance to try this place this week. nice dinner menu, reasonably priced and good selection. now, the service on the other hand was terrible. i suppose that things will eventually get better, but it appeared that everyone was learning on the fly and hadn't even had basic training on the menu or point of sale system. it took a long time to get our food (and it wasn't busy), a long time to get drinks, and a long time to cashout.
September 16, 200816 yr this new one looks good. where is it exactly - what did it take the place of? TASTE BITES: Bodega Where: 1854 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights. Contact: 216.932.3060. September 17, 200816 yr My brother went, granted he has no taste what-so-ever, so his opinion is suspect, thought the food was good. My mom on the other hand, said it felt out of place. She said it felt like an upscale 4 star restaurant ploped into the middle of a college bar row.
September 17, 200816 yr MTS, I take it maybe you mom is the first commenter on PD link? I've been there are really enjoyed it. Yeah, based on the decor, it feels a little out of place, but so what? The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and I suspect the people of Cleveland Heights and University Circle will appreciate another swanky option once in a while. Now, it would really be great if they would consider opening up another spot in UARD...or give it a go there if it doesn't work out in its current spot (although my waiter said they're doing quite well so far). It would be PERFECT for those environs.

September 24, 200816 yr What's going on with Vivo? I thought that it would be closed only until the sidewalk was finished.

September 25, 200816 yr ^ I think this is part of the whole Caddillac Ranch development in the May Company building. If I recall, the space next to the Bang and Caltter will be Barroom Cleveland.
September 25, 200816 yr What's going on with Vivo? I thought that it would be closed only until the sidewalk was finished. Apparently they are looking for some new investors for a cash infusion... or at least so I heard.
September 28, 200816 yr I'm posting this after a girl from work said she's run out of neat restaurants and taverns to take her boyfriend. She's a young suburbanite who's starting to realize that many of the really good, off-beat, interesting places aren't in the suburbs. Nor are they just on East Fourth, or the Warehouse District etc. Instead, one may be down an alley in Tremont, or a brand-new spot off Shaker Square, or in an otherwise ghetto area of St. Clair-Superior. Don't worry whether it's a place that everyone knows about. This is about your discoveries. Share them! I'll start out with my favorite discoveries.... For me, a great discovery was Bruno's, 2644 West 41st Street: www.brunosristorante.org The Italian food and intimate settings are fantastic. Plus you can get your car detailed across the sidestreet while you eat (the car wash is owned by the same people who own Bruno's). There is a security guard there too who watches your car since the neighborhood is a bit rough. As long as we're on Italian restaurants, another great little spot is Pepper's Cafe, 12401 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood. It's a shoebox of a place (seats just 29 people) run by the Lavelle family. It's on the ground floor of a grimy apartment building. I go there a lot since it's a short walk from my home. Parking is hard to come by in the densely populated neighborhood, so you may want to get there early, or park on Cove Avenue, or take the #26 or the Community Circulator. And another new discovery for me is a new Mexican restaurant with great food and great service: El Jalapenos, 1313 West 117th. Although it's certainly not hidden on a busy street, it's still relatively new. It opened where the German restaurant Kluck's was located, just south of Clifton. Got some favorite discoveries? September 29, 200816 yr Peppers is great! We also like the ParkView tavern -- I think it is on Herman north of Detroit in the DS area.
September 29, 200816 yr Where does your friend live? Perhaps we could list things that are on their particular side of town, or at least towards it? For example, suggesting the Moosehead Saloon in Bay Village (at the Westlake border), which is one of my favorite discoveries, won't do the friend any good if they live on the E side.
September 29, 200816 yr ^Love the Moosehead. I'm fine if people just list their favorite "discoveries" regardless of locale. Whenever I see lists like this, I make mental notes of the good places to eat in case I'm out running errands, etc. and happen to be in that area. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 29, 200816 yr Brunno's is great KJP! Good taste in Italian! For me, I like the Club House in Parma Heights on Pearl just south/west of York. Their specialty is Chicken Paprikash (sp) however much of their food is great. For a good sandwich on the run, I do like Dagwood's on the corner of State and Tuxedo in Parma just south of Brookpark. For "suburban Italian" D'Agneses on Broadview and Pleasent Valley in Parma is good. Sorry for mentioning all my favorite suburban spots...but they are Parma/Parma Heights which I don't consider sprawlville chain food.
September 29, 200816 yr SW side faves: Brew Kettle, Don's Pomeroy House pub (downstairs - less expensive than the formal upstairs dining room), Carrie Cerino's, Sweet Mango (GREAT thai food), Islander Bar & Grill, Capri Pizza (best pizza in town IMO). W side faves: Borderline Cafe (lakewood - great breakfast), Around the Corner (lakewood - good bar food), Stino da Napoli (awesome little Italian place in Rocky River), Tartine (bistro in Rocky River), Wine Bar (Rocky River at Detroit & Linda), Sweet Melissa's (R River, good sandwiches and sweet treats), Melt Bar & Grilled (awesome, numerous varieties of grilled cheese, in Lakewood), Nuevo Acapulco (N. Olmsted, great, inexpensive Mexican). Edited to add a recent total gem: La Campagna in Westlake (VERY small, reservations required, but worth it)
September 29, 200816 yr Forgot about Carpri, great Pizza! Carrie Cerino's also is excellent and a North Royalton staple.
September 29, 200816 yr I think it may be a little famous, but last week I finally got to eat at Sokolowski's in Tremont. I can't wait to go back.
September 29, 200816 yr Although some may know about it, others may not: Sterle's Slovenian Country House - E. 55th and St. Clair
September 29, 200816 yr I concur with all the places listed that I've been to. Good list so far. Another Italian place to check out on the West Side is Caffe Roma on Lorain Ave. and W. 130th. Some parking in the back. Great food. Better prices. My mom used to cook there before my parents moved to Strongville so it's basically like a family kitchen placed in a small restaurant setting. BYOB bonus so you can bring in your own bottle of wine for dinner which saves you a ton of money.
September 29, 200816 yr Two in the Collinwood/E. 185th area: Grovewood Tavern and Bistro 185. Bistro 185 is right on E. 185th, just north of I-90. Grovewood Tavern is on Grovewood and E. 172nd.

September 29, 200816 yr Marrotta's on Lee Rd just south of Cedar. Best Italian I've had in this city. Small, doesn't take reservations, but worth the wait.
September 29, 200816 yr I'll be in Cleveland in a few weeks; where is that mac & cheese place? Krazy Mac's Cafe (aka Cheddars, aka Snickers) 5800 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 It is on the northwest corner of Detroit and W. 58th. Across the street is the Happy Dog bar and up W. 58th is the Parkview-- both good places to stop by afterwards.
