Go there once or twice a year at most.  I really like the food and concept, but those things are just plain awful for you.

^They are deliciously aweful.   I think a little piece of me dies when I eat there.

Yes, Im already fasting here in DC for my next trip back to Cleveland in a couple weeks!  (the only way I can justify it)

I just called Melt last night and they said there was a 1.5-2 hour wait at 8PM.  Can't wait for the new location to open up to hopefully relieve some pressure from the Lakewood location!  Went to Johnny Mango instead.

As for Asian Grille, it is a pretty decent Thai place supposedly owned by or at least associated with the folks who run Thai Hut in Lakewood.  They just recently put up a new green awning with a sign on it.  Before that you almost had to know it was there since the sign was so small.

Well, I was a little off on the name when I posted it before, but the soft opening for "La Boca" (not "Il Bacio" as I misunderstood it to be called) was last night. This restaurant will be occupying the space previously filled by

Snickers-->Cheddars-->Krazy Mac's on W. 58th and Detroit. It will focus on Latin American cuisine by Chef Adam Scmidt.

Ah I saw all the people in there last night and was wondering what was going on

Also, there were signs in the window at the other side of of the Arcade on Euclid Avenue for a new shop serving sandwiches, soups, and salads but i cant remember the name. 2 people were painting inside but didnt say when they hoped to open.

That's going to be another Presto, they have a store in Fairview Park too.

if that is indeed the same presto it will be a very welcome and delicious addition.

^Is that space the one that used to be E Street Cafe and then International Wraps? Those window seats are great for people-watching at lunchtime.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

yes this is the same location.

That's great to hear.  I love Presto in Fairview Park, and the immigrant (i believe)/chef/owner is always warm and welcoming.  Wish it the best of luck!

per the chinatown/asiatown developments thread, murrayhill posted about a new asian restaurant opening soon called happy buddha. it urns out the taiwanese chef is coming over from flushing, queens, home of the original happy buddha restaurant in the heart of nyc's most robust chinatown. i walk by this place on occasion, but i've never eaten there, so i asked about it on chowhound and this is a reply i got:

"Happy Buddha is an excellent restaurant on 37th Avenue in Flushing, right by the 7/LIRR to Main Street, and they even have their own (free) parking lot.

I eat there often, and always receive a warm greeting, friendly service, and tasty vegetarian Asian food. The place is usually packed with locals, which I always take as a good sign."

Here's their website:

per the website the flushing place interior looks modern and cool + the menu looks good -- maybe take it as a preview?!

Is there a website/menu for this place?

Speaking of Krazy Mac's i still see the signs at the place on Detroit in Lakewood but doesnt look like much has changed.  Are they working on this?

In the former Machu Picchu space on East 8th/Euclid by CVS, I saw a coming soon sign for Johnny's Hideaway. Anyone hear about this?

No, but I saw someone working in there a couple days ago, and wondered what was going on.  Hopefully they will be able to survive in that location.

Really, a hole in the wall bar is probably the only place that can survive in such a secluded location.  Wouldn't be upset if that's what it turned into.

I just hope it's not another sports bar.

Interestingly, I know Machu Pichu went through the signage program and after their new signage was put in place, they had really started growing and we're doing fairly well (turning a profit anyway), it wasn't till the corridor construction basically removed access to their location for months that they tanked.  They are one of the few business that I think can really tie their closure directly to the corridor project.

I still can't believe that trifecta place closed before it even openend.  Judging from the pictures I saw it looks like they spent a decent amount of money too.

I think downtown needs more hole in the wall bars.  Everything is either sports bar, Just about everything gateway, higher end bar, e 4th mostly, or clubby, WHD.  And along the side of another building off an ally like street is perfect for it, if it is hole in the wall-y.  I really cant think of a good hole in the wall bar downtown.

^Moriarity's and Little Bar?

I was just about to list those.

^Ontario Street Cafe (personal favorite), Toppers Lounge on E12th (closed though I think), The Rathskellar, The Sidebar on St. Clair, Moriarty's...  That's the thing about hole in the wall bars, you have to find them.

I wonder if it the same guys from Johnny's downtown. If so, I imagine it would be more of a classic cocktail type lounge.  But that is just speculation.

darn forgot about Moriarity, that palce is good and divey.  And work right next to there.

Has anyone been to Little Polish Diner on the northwest corner of Ridge and Snow Road?

Gotta love the selection of ethnic eats in the older part of Parma.

Where did Max's Deli reopen?

As far as I know, it hasn't.

Does anyone know if Dante's restaurant in Tremont is still a go and if so when it will open? I found a website for them but the phone number is disconnected. I will be visiting July 4th week and want to make reservations if possible. Any word? Thanks

^ i think your visit is just a little bit too early.

here's a blurb from the cleveland dot bomb food and wine forum:

21199. Dante update.

by IrishK, 6/15/09 17:00 ET

Dante just put out a bulletin that construction on the new restaurant in Tremont has officially started, with an opening tentatively scheduled for late July.

Dante was on WKYC news today at noon, making chocolate honey ice cream.

there's a new place opening up across from parallax and kittycorner from southside in tremont.  the sign says LOOP, and there is a patio with a fireplace.  I can't seem to find anything else, anyone heard anything?

awesome.  I need a place to purchase my prerecorded tape.

Not sure if anyone has said anything about Etna, which is located in Little Italy.  I went there the other night and thought it was pretty good.  Even though I hate seafood, they seemed to have a good variety of seafood and it was fairly reasonably prices.  The owner/chef is quite a character too, and I got to witness him go nuts in broken english on the valet guys.

^^The owner is Pepe....he's only been in this country for about 2-3 years and is from Sicily.  He's really a good guy and great chef.

It made me happy when he opened this place.

Pepe is Valerio's brother-in-law and used to cook the pizzas at La Gelateria. Do you know who cooks there now?

Has anyone been to Bar One Sushi on superior at about e6th?  It used to be Bar One, and then sold, and the new owner added Sushi on the end . Anyway I was really suprised how good this was. I had a girt certificate and was really worried b/c it was not very busy and it was a friday night. They have a high volume sister restaurant in Avon, so things stay fresh.  It is not very hard to be better than Sushi Rock, but I liked it better than Ginza, one of our other downtown choices . They have 1/2 price sushi on Tuesdays, and the choices are much more comprehensive than Sushi Rock's 1/2 price Wed. The only thing I did not like was that they did not have some things I like on hand-Toro, octopus, and those giant fish roe. The waitress said the volume for those items was not high enough. What we had was insanely fresh. I hope they make it.

I think I still like Pacific East the best, but since I don't like to go all the way out to the heights as much as staying in the neighborhood, Bar One fits the bill.

I've been there four times. A couple of times for dinner and for lunch. I totally agree that the sushi is very fresh. I've had friends that went to the 1/2 priced Tuesday and they thought it was phenomenal. That's a very big endorsement considering they're very picky, especially when it comes to sushi. Lunches are more crowded than dinners. They could certainly use the extra business.

The aforementioned Bar Symon in Avon Lake is opening today and the menu looks pretty good.  I dont have a link on me, but there is a website up and running.  FYI

Anyone been to "Americano" in Bratenahl? If so, any insight?

Where exactly in Bratenahl is this?

^I didn't know that Bratenahl had any commercial space.

There is a new restaurant that will be opening up in Tremont soon. I forget the name, but I pass it every day on the way to work. It is at the corner of Fairfield and W.11th.

We went last night.  I thought it was very good, as I had the hanger steak and my lady friend had a pasta and chicken dish.  Thanks for the help.

there are some construction shots of loop on facebook.

looks like it will be pretty modern styled inside.

good luck to them, i love funky places like that.

the website is on the way:
