November 20, 200915 yr Well Chili Peppers opend a little early then, walked by and there were definetly people ordering burritos, would have got one if I didnt have a Daves Cosmic Subs craving at the moment. There was no menu board or pricing so seems like things are still being installed. Also, Chocolate Bar has New awnings up. They also put up a different awning over the exterior door. No Pics as I dont have a camera so you have to brave the outdoors to see it.
November 20, 200915 yr Hey it can get scary out there. I mean theres wind and such, maybe a branch will hit you in the face or something :-P
November 21, 200915 yr Went to AMP 150 last night, the new restuarant in the Marriot Airport that caught some questioning as to why it was put there. It was a pretty darn good meal.
November 21, 200915 yr ^ I have wanted to check out that place as well... Just glancing at some of the posts.... Wanted to pitch in a couple places I feel are underrated spots... First, The 7 Roses Deli on Fleet in Slavic Village. The store has atmosphere...old style sliding wall ladder, molded plaster ceilings, marble-like walls, wooden floors and a great door entrance... Very ethnic inside, many items available for ethnic cooking, a deli, freshly baked baked goods, and a small quality buffet for $6.99 I am a vegetarian so I basically go for the pierogies and a few other items, but the atmosphere alone is worth the trip. It is like stepping back in time...sort of like Olson's Mercantile Polish style! Make a stop by this place! Second place I have not seen too much writing about is Jazz 28. (28th/Church in O.C.) Fresh food, great clean classy atmosphere, and the owners Mark and Debbie are fabulous and welcoming. It is in the former Budapest Blue spot. This place has class...so it is not a place where you go and wear sneakers and blue jeans and a sloppy shirt.... It requires getting a bit above that...Nice pants, shoes, shirt, basically. If you have a gut, refrain from tucking in the shirt.... food is good, you will need the room! Since it is small inside, the acoustics are a bit loud, but the music, nonetheless, is good. Get out the hat and cane and give it try. Just thought I would add a couple places that seem to not get heard of very much....
November 21, 200915 yr I usually try to give Jazz 28 some business when I am back visiting. You are right it is a nice neighborhood hangout, with certainly above average food. For a while I didnt think they would make it, but they had some good write ups and did some specials, and I think they have been doing much better. Also Mark and Debbie are very welcoming, I think that helps in getting people back.
November 21, 200915 yr I heartily second 7 Roses Deli on Fleet in slavic village! great variety of smoked meats, cheeses, freshly baked breads, and pierogies. in fact, the only place i've found in town to purchase piergies filled with sauerkraut & mushrooms - yum! Do give this place a try for lunch or take out.

The owner Mark Lynn was my advisor freshman and sophomore year at John Carroll a while back, where he is a Professor in the Management Department. Talented musician and nice guy too!

November 24, 200915 yr The Domino's Pizza on the corner of 6th and Superior looks to be closed. They had a sign in the window a few weeks back saying they were closed for a few days, then the following week most of the equipment and window signs were cleared out. I'm kind of surprised they closed since they always seemed to have people waiting in line or out front with pizzas, and the bicycle delivery guys were constantly leaving with pizzas. But in my 5 years of working and going to school downtown I've only gotten pizza from there once or twice. I hate to see any food options close downtown, but I'd rather see this chain pizza shop close instead of one of the local stores like Vincenzas or Teresa's Pizza.

We ordered from there maybe once a month or once every two months.... I always found it entertaining to have your pizza delivered by bike (which they did if it was nice out). Things seemed a bit sketchy a month or so ago when we ordered a thin crust pizza and we opened the box to find a hand-tossed pizza just thinned out a bit. We called to ask them about it and they said they didn't stock the special crispy thin crust dough any more and that this is how they make it now. Needless to say, we weren't pleased!

I recently had a meeting at that Marriot and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I had heard that they had dumped a ton of money into it and it shows. :( no meals at AMP 150 though, sandwiches for lunch :(

Since the dominate the market share in Cleveland they can do that. They've kept starwood out of Cleveland.
November 24, 200915 yr A few unsubstantiated rumors I've heard: The Flaming Ice Cube vegan place that EC was talking about will go into the former Suzy's Soup location on Public Square. Zoup is opening somewhere on lower Euclid, though I'm not positive of a location.
November 24, 200915 yr A few unsubstantiated rumors I've heard: The Flaming Ice Cube vegan place that EC was talking about will go into the former Suzy's Soup location on Public Square. I'd love to think that has something to do with our storefront art and cleaning abilities, lol :-D

All that hard work and theyre just going to move in and take all the credit for the squeaky clean windows!

December 6, 200915 yr Looks like the Lancer is no more... The Lancer Steakhouse destroyed in morning fire in Cleveland By Donna J. Miller, Plain Dealer reporter December 06, 2009, 8:41AM CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Lancer Steakhouse at 7707 Carnegie Avenue was destroyed by fire this morning. A passerby reported the blaze at 5:30 a.m., but it had been burning too long for firefighters to save the building, Assistant Fire Chief David McNeilly said. December 6, 200915 yr OMG! First Vel's now the Lancer. Two historical (majority) black meeting and deal making (of any kind) establishments gone.

December 6, 200915 yr And they were'nt insured...! Makes no sense, but at least they can rule out arson for insurance money.
December 6, 200915 yr Wow, drove past there last night about 1:00 a.m. and marveled how packed it was...and just a few hours latter no more....I am sure it will be missed by many people.
December 7, 200915 yr FYI the doughnut shop on Euclid near the Coloniol Marketplace looks to have closed. They never seemed very busy whenever I was in there, but they did hit the sugar craving as I was walking to work. This makes two storefronts in 100 ft of each other that have closed in the past 6 months. Hopefully they wont sit empty for too long once 668 opens.
December 8, 200915 yr I just got back from a few days in Cleveland, I saw the Lancer Steakhouse burn down Sunday morning when I was driving around town. I took some pictures but since someone already posted some I won't.
December 9, 200915 yr Table 45 has *finally* hired a sushi chef. Doesn't seem like he's working every day, possibly just for special events.

December 11, 200915 yr There is a Hungarian take away shop in the Euclid Arcade foodcourt that opened sometime recently. Also, Crepes Deluxe is opening Monday in the Old Arcade.
December 11, 200915 yr ^Oh wow, cool. Is just pastries or the whole Hungarian food deal? Some items from the menu include: wiener schnitzel sandwich; chicken schnitzel sandwich; chicken paprikash; stuffed cabbages; hungarian goulash; salad; and hungarian pancake.
December 11, 200915 yr I think this may be a downtown location of the "To Go Hungarian" in Willoughby http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/16/1483017/restaurant/Cleveland/Wickliffe-Willowick-Willoughby/To-Go-Hungarian-Food-Willoughby
December 17, 200915 yr damn you for bumping this thread right before lunch. I think I'll have to check out the Hungarian take-away place.
December 17, 200915 yr The Chocolate Bar at Euclid & E. 4th is open as of yesterday... Great news! It'll fit right into the area, with a nice transition into the Arcade.
December 17, 200915 yr Holy deliciousness, Batman. Only a few bites in and I am thrilled. Proprietor was very friendly & nice and I was disappointed there was nobody else in line and nobody visibly eating their food. Chicken schnitzel and stuffed cabbage here, both excellent. I got the crepe for dessert, will edit and let you know how it is. Crepe is pretty good. Today's was walnut/orange, comes with drizzled chocolate sauce. final report: The stuffed cabbage were a little overstuffed to me - ratio of meat to cabbage was a little too heavy (almost no cabbage), but they included nice little bits of loose cabbage in the container so that made up for it. Schnitzel was very good but I could do without the frozen fries. Either make them yourself or make some home fries or something IMO, or even some mashed? But that's nitpicking. Didn't care for the cuke salad, too mild tasting. But everything else was quite tasty and I'll go again.
December 17, 200915 yr damn you for bumping this thread right before lunch. I think I'll have to check out the Hungarian take-away place. I had the chicken paprikash on monday and it was very tasty. A friend had the stuffed cabbage and said it was very good, and someone else got the wiener schnitzel and said it was a little dry, but still good.
