February 28, 200718 yr ^oh come on, you can't go wrong with "three little piggies" (waiting for Colday to respond) I don't think there is a need for response. MayDay prefers overpriced "fu-fu" mac n' cheese. I prefer "bang for your buck" collard greens and ribs. Difference in taste, I suppose. You don't like paying 10 bucks just for mac and cheese?
February 28, 200718 yr Speaking of which.. I went by Cheddars two weeks ago. I was not excited, but my coworkers had selected the place. I absolutely loved the food. I'll definitely be back.

February 28, 200718 yr "MayDay prefers overpriced "fu-fu" mac n' cheese. I prefer "bang for your buck" collard greens and ribs. Difference in taste, I suppose." No dear, it's a difference in standards. ;-) You know as well as I do that I like good greens, ribs, candied yams, black-eyed peas, etc. or do I need to remind you of my dating history? And for the record - when I was growing up my dad was laid off for a three-year stretch (he worked in a machine shop). During those years, the only cheese I consumed came in a five pound brick courtesy of the gub'ment. February 28, 200718 yr I love it -- this thread has turned into a total sass-a-thon! Isn't that what happens to the majority of UO thread? LOL

Well you know those places that "look" condemned and seedy are often the best place to get a good meal.
March 1, 200718 yr I’ve never seen this place mentioned on here before, but Algebra Tea House in University Circle is one of my favorite places. It has a very unique, intellectual and cultural atmosphere, and serves worldwide teas and drinks and some Mediterranean foods. (I even overheard that it was rated #1 tea house in Cleveland for 2006.) I’m a little biased, but--four stars! Location: http://www.pluggedincleveland.com/restaurants/38+algebra+tea+house.html If you go to Case, CIM, or CIA, you must check this place out at least once before you graduate.
March 1, 200718 yr If you go to Case, CIM, or CIA, you must check this place out at least once before you graduate. Or if you are in the area and what to avoid an overly active Little Italy, don't forget the barking spider for another great University Circle Low Key Alternative
March 1, 200718 yr ok. as a oc'er/tremont-abee it is real hard to admit Algebra may be the best tea house. It really is awesome. Bt my sweetheart Lucky's rocks and Nicki's Gypsy Beans hold there own quite nicely!
March 1, 200718 yr So where is a good Indian food place for dinner? And, where the hell is Tommy's? Sorry -- I'm the new boy. Well, okay, boy would be stretching it a bit. How about I'm the new guy in town? Well that is just so cliche! Okay, so, I'm just new. Considering a move to OC or Shoreway away from Useles. I mean Euclid.

March 1, 200718 yr "So where is a good Indian food place for dinner?" There are a few decent places around - I like Cafe Tandoor (several area locations) but I know some say that the Cleveland Heights location is best. Some friends have said Saffron Patch is good, but a little pricier than Tandoor. I know that if you like authentic south Indian, the best place is Udupi Cafe on Chevrolet Blvd. in Parma - it's strictly vegetarian but I hear rave reviews. Btw, welcome to the forum. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 1, 200718 yr Author ^^Welcome to Cleveland and to Urban Ohio, jmjr! I love Indian food, and my favorite Indian restaurant in Northeast Ohio is unfortunately in North Royalton. It's called Jaipur Junction, in a nondescript strip mall on Sprague Road near York. Trust me, the drive is worth it (and this is coming from a die-hard city dweller). Udupi Cafe, located in Parma Heights, is exclusively vegetarian and good, but not nearly as good as Jaipur. Closer in to the city is India Garden in Lakewood, which I have never tried but have heard good things about. Downtown there is Royal Saffron on E. 9th near Euclid. I've heard bad things about the lunch buffet but others have told me their entrees are good. And a friend of mine from India raves about the little Indian takeout place inside the Colonial Marketplace, on Euclid near E. 6th. On the East Side there's Saffron Patch in Shaker Heights, owned by the same people who own Jaipur. I think Jaipur is fathoms better, though. And there's Cafe Tandoor, a local chain in Cleveland Heights (with exurban locations in Aurora and Westlake). They're just OK, IMO. Oh -- and you should definitely move to Ohio City or Detroit-Shoreway. ;)
March 1, 200718 yr Author Memories of Old Cleveland. I went to the Plaka once. Anyone lucky enough to have gone to Grecian Gardens on E. 4th? That place sounds awesome. George Koropoulis, 84, was owner of Grecian Gardens, other restaurants Thursday, March 01, 2007 Wally Guenther Plain Dealer Reporter George Koropoulis, 84, a Greek immigrant who owned or co-owned 12 different restaurants - including the Grecian Gardens - more than 39 years, died Sunday at Lutheran Hospital. March 1, 200718 yr ^^I soooo wish the lady at the Colonial Marketplace would open a full-size restaurant so she could serve lunch AND dinner. Ok, that settles it - I'm going there for lunch today :-D clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

On that same strech of road, some of the best sushi in town can be found at Pacific East (corner of Coventry and Mayfield) . OC and Detroit Shoreway are great. I migrated from the heights to the downtown/near west a couple years ago and have not looked back.

March 1, 200718 yr Never on Sunday Restaurant. Reminds me of a photo from CMP. Look at all those kick ass signs on Prospect... I have a sneaky suspicion those types of restaurants/diners were sucessful due to their close proximity to the Central Market along with an impressive daytime workforce.
March 1, 200718 yr Probably a bigger factor is that there were more people living closer to downtown back then. That photo looks like it was taken in the 1960s. Even then, Cleveland had more than 750,000 residents and the ring of poverty around the central business district was much narrower. Back then, places like St. Clair-Superior, Buckeye and Clark-Metro were still working-class/middle-class areas. March 1, 200718 yr Love Algebra Tea House. They have really good food and desserts, in addition to the tea selection. The place is really like no other in Cleveland. If you want tea selection, though, you've really got to check out the Monastery on W. 25th. I mentioned it earlier and it's the truth!

I probably would rate Udupi a little higher than Jaipur, but they are very close...I just love Upupi's lunch buffet. I live right down the street from Indian Garden in Lakewood. It is really good...almost up to Udupi and Jaipur levels. And the decour is way better. My best friend at work is Indian and she says Udupi is the best, but thats mostly because she is from south India and Upupi is the only south Indian restaurant in town...all the others are north Indian.
March 2, 200718 yr Okay, great -- India Garden it is for starters due to locale then will venture out! Now, for great Thai food -- Phnom Penh on West 25th. (thought I would contribute back as a thanks for the Indian food information!)
March 2, 200718 yr Mint Cafe on Coventry is also out of this world. is that the new(er) place on the north end of coventry?
March 2, 200718 yr For Vietnamese, I prefer Minh Anh (Detroit & W. 54th) to Phnom Penh on W. 25th. They're both great, though!
March 2, 200718 yr Last night after a terrific night out with some friends we ordered Fabio's Pizza (4203 Clark Avenue) and once again as every time I've had it, their pizza is wonderful. Add to the fact that they are open until 4am and deliver to downtown, Tremont, OC, & the west side - this place has rapidly become one of my favorites for pizza around town.
March 2, 200718 yr hey, thanks for the heads up! I've been looking for an alternative to Ohio City Pizza that will deliver.
March 2, 200718 yr suggestion, when we recommend restaurants, can we include website? Seriously, and if that's not available, an address please.
March 2, 200718 yr ^I'd like you to add a sample slice, and a whiff of their crust as well... sheesh! since when did we become so demanding?!
March 2, 200718 yr Its not an "or else" ultimatum. I know that many of us would appreciate minimal effort on part of the forumer in order to facilitate the enjoyment of cleveland's dining establishments

March 5, 200718 yr Former Ruthie & Mo's to reopen Posted by Bill Lubinger March 05, 2007 15:59PM The former Ruthie and Mo's Diner, a landmark in the city's Midtown Cleveland district until it closed last year, could reopen soon with a new operator. "I'm shooting for May 1," Samir Khouri, a Westlake restaurateur who plans to revive the converted rail car at East 40th Street and Prospect Avenue as Somer's Diner, said Monday. March 5, 200718 yr So, what happned to Rysar moving his headquarters to this location? I like this alternative much better, but I'm curious as to Rysar's plans for his office space.
March 12, 200718 yr they were trying to get people in for their happy hour yesterday, so i guess they must have the liquor license now. Does anyone know how this place is doing (Machu Picchu, the Peruvian place?) and perhaps more important, is there a happy hour? I think the apps are better than the entrees, and with some happy hour drinks you'll have a nice meal.
March 12, 200718 yr i walked by last night after the MAC final and there were maybe 3 tables full at 10ish. i think they do OK for lunch, but many nights during the week they look pretty empty. hopefully they can pull together a good lunch crowd and catered crowd. so many of the restaurants in this area are lunch only spots, it would be nice to see a more good dinner options.
March 12, 200718 yr Address? Web? Thanks! since I posted I dd a little poking around and found the website again..http://machupicchucleveland.com/about.htm...and answered my happy hour question...now if I could just pull it together to make a happy hour one day!
