We went to a dry-run opening of the Beer Engine in Lakewood last night. http://www.buckeyebeerengine.com

I believe it opens to the public tomorrow (03.13).  The Beer Engine is Buckeye Brewing Co.'s new brew pub and is located on Madison near W.153  Late last year, they moved their brewery from Bedford Hts to Lakewood, somewhere near Lorain and Warren.  The Beer Engine specializes in cask beers, which are not artificially carbonated, and instead are pulled up from the cask via a pump or engine.  Delicious!  They also have a variety of lesser known micro-brews on tap, about 20 or so.

They feature a massive selections of burgers, which can all be replaced with a portabello mushroom cap or chicken as well as salads and such.  There  will be a street front patio in the summer months.

sounds awesome!

I finally checked out Liquid Planet (www.liquid-planet.com) on Clifton & W. 110th (11002 Clifton) after over a year of saying "I really should check that place out" when hitting up Pet-Tique (just across 110th) for my little ones.

What a menu!  The sandwiches were fantastic and the juices/smoothies as well.  I'll certainly be going back!

But... do they have any kind of foam/fizz? I can't imagine one of my tart IPAs without that  :?

the cask beers are noticeably smoother, but they are carbonated with the natural CO2 that occurs as a result of fermentation

Oh hey, another great new restaurant, Shanghai, was recently reviewed in Scene.  They feature some incredible dishes, organic brown rice, an abundance of fresh vegetables, no msg, and a really cool location on old china town (rockwell) with a feeling of a 1940's chinese restaurant.

Theguv got to it first

Beer has natural carbonation, yeast eats sugar and poops out booze and CO2.

Think of a cask as a hand pump on a keg.

I believe brewers perfer cask vs. traditional CO2 or Beer Gas because the gas delivery system will dissolve gas into the beer, thus changing the character of the beer.  For instance, Guinness needs a nitrogen/CO2 mix to pour correctly and taste right.

The first part of this message is fact....the second part is speculation

I LOVE cask beers. they are so wonderfully smooth-no need for artificial fizz. They should be commended and supported for practicing this craft. I have only seen cask conditioned at GLBC on a very rare occasion. I wanted to go this weekend for the 1/2 price thing but was cursed to be on call for work. Guv-Did you note how many brews were on cask? Did they say when they could start filling growlers? When they were in Bedford they had a killer happy hour. This is something that might actually get me out to the burbs!

PS mayday-I think IPA's can be put on cask as well-but not common. The hippie IPA is quite good according to hop heads,(but not my style).

is an OU pub crawl in order...its right on the #25 (?) which runs down Bridge...right near you know where

you had me at beer.

they have the ability to have two cask beers.  at the soft-opening, they only had the 'spirit of 76 double ipa' on cask.  i had drank this beer about three weeks earlier at the winter brewing festival at rock bottom. imo, it tasted better on cask.

anyone heard any news about when moulton brewing company will began shipping their 'healthy' beer??

the ipa was off the charts hops -wise-I was there as well. I was *helping my friend work the Brew Kettle stand next to Beer Engine's

* by "helping" I mean assisting in draining the Russian imperial stout (which won by the way).

My quality of life in lakewood has improved with the opening of Souper Market....stopped in today for some lobster bisque...mmm...im a happy man....i think i could eat there everyday.

^Delicious stuff, I know.  I went Friday.

They also have Wi-Fi at the Lakewood Souper Market location.

Where is this located?

^In the building located on the southwest corner of Detroit and Warren.  If you're not familiar with the Souper Market, the original location is on the northwest side of Lorain and West 25th, just off Market Square.

Also, a sign in an adjacent window says that Dave's Cosmic Subs will be opening a location soon.

directly across the street from crazy ritas

Dave's Cosmic Subs in Coventry is one of my favorites.  You guys will be getting a great sandwich shop.

I thought that the original was in Kent. Anyone know?

^I think that Dave is wrong and is forgetting about the store he opened up in Kent in the 70s. (I don't know why I thought that was the case :) )

I've only ever been to the one on E. 6th and that one only a couple times.  I've never been all that impressed.  Plus, when I go down there, I'm always lured in by Teahouse Noodles!

I like Grum's on Coventry. yums.

Just had Teahouse Noodles the other day and really enjoyed it. $6 might be a touch much for a custom bowl, but I'm willing to pay it. I had thai noodles, miso soup and tofu. It was much tastier than the crumby Campbells chicken & rice I'm currently eating. I should try some of those other E6th places, they look interesting.

Plus, there's not many places Downtown that can get you something that tasty and good for you in such a quick fashion.  They're also super nice!

If you hadn't eaten something so yummy and full of fatty goodness, would you have hit the elliptical?  perhaps not... so Teahouse Noodles forced you into a workout... therefore, it's good for you!

MayDay, I saw you today on Euclid. I didn't realize it was you until you had past me by.

I had JM for the first time ever today at lunch, yum.

has anyone eaten at the new la salsa on the clinic campus?

if so, do you know what the hours are and where exactly M-18 is, it is at 9500 Euclid?

I ate at Halite over the weekend.  I hadn't been there for quite some time and now I'm wondering why?  The food is very good, prices very, very good and it's a very comfortable feel.

I ran into a neighbor who went there last night...  they apparently have some Tuesday night special deal.  Anyone recall what it is?  I've always liked Halite.

^$20 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. It's a great deal, indeed.

its like the TGI Friday's deal, except the food is good.

I had heard that Halite was up for sale.  Is that true?

Thank you!  What is going to happen to the building and the other buildings around there?  I had heard some type of development?  Apartments/condos as part of the plans for the whole W28th/shoreway projects?

I heard this too and it has honestly deterred me from going on a couple of occasions, for fear that it wouldn't be open (I know, I could call ahead).

Its business as usual for Halite. Despite the sale rumors/truth, they are still serving food and drinks.

We checked out The Buckeye Beer Engine last night and its amazing. They had about 25 beers on tap...3 of their own and the rest craft/micro brews from all over plus their bitter on cask. The only mainstream beer they seemed to carry was PBR. The beer menu was on a dry erase type board, so I'm assuming the lineup will change frequently. Last night I had the cask bitter, the 76 IPA, a Rogue Chocolate Stout and a Dogfish Head Aprihop....all delicious.

They specialize in burgers, so thats what we ate. I got the West Side burger which came with cheddar, grilled onions and a perogi on top. My buddy got the Cyclops burger which had a sunny side egg on top. Both great. They came with homemade chips and a deep fried pickle spear...if you've never had a deep fried pickle, they are awesome. You could substitute a portabella cap, blackbean burger or chicken for any burger.

Burgers were around $8 and the beers were mostly $4.

Oh, they had happy hour until 7 as well...$1 off drinks, i think.

I'm going to have to check that place out!

The Souper Market (s) have an updated website now, with menus for each location and Soups of the Week online.

I'm 99% certain that College Station in Little Italy (Murray Hill across from greek life housing for Case) is closed.  Windows are papered up, the sign is down, and there's absolutely no sign of life.....

not that it's any different from when it was open, hah!

University Circle & Little Italy can do much better - it had bad prices, irregular hours, and downright atrocious service.
