A quick search doesn't turn up anything, but the Tudor Arms/Doubletree's restaurant will be called The Canopy. It looks to be a Mediterranean grill, and should do fairly well based on the decor I've seen so far.

you bet i ate corned beef for breakfast at slymans. instead of my usual perch/walleye cravings i had a real craving for slymans this time.

This is waaay early but this blurb in a Crain's article is interesting. Im guessing this is that late-1800s building at the foot of W. 9th (FEB project area).

"...plans by mid-2013 to open Portside Distillery, a 5,000-square-foot restaurant, brewery and distillery on West Ninth Street in Cleveland's Warehouse District."

Since it's Crain's... copying/pasting the address below in a google search is necessary for non-subscribers.

Wow, thanks for posting that- a really interesting read.

Isn't that the building the port recently purchased with plans to move their HQ's there?

I'm guessing so.  They said they potentially had a brewpub lined up for the lower floor.

Cleveland food tours: Guided gastronomic trips of city's best eating neighborhoods are on the rise

Published: Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 1:44 PM    Updated: Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 9:31 AM

By Debbi Snook, The Plain Dealer

The moment dessert arrived, five cameras went up, each aimed at the grilled fresh peaches lapped with Italian-style cream cheese.

Flash, flash, flash. And another flash.

"I'm teasing my boyfriend," said Julie DuVal of Cleveland, who swiftly emailed her photo to California.

You would think the group of 20 people at Grotto Wine Bar in Cleveland's Shaker Square would be sated with culinary excitement by now. But, no. After four hours of eating and visits to as many restaurants, these instant paparazzi on an NEO Food Tour remained valiant to the end.

Not a word about having more than they could handle.

If food is now a Hollywood star in this former Beefaroni town -- with our chefs gaining fans, taking top awards and filling the Food Network with appearances -- you can see it in one of these guided, red-carpet romps through some of the city's best eating neighborhoods.

I am totally excited about Ginko.  Sounds awesome.

Harlan's first job should be to improve quality control/consistency and do serious re-training on service at all B Spots (or else they won't have the need for a regional manager)

From the Scene article (http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/bites/Content?category=1520384):

"This is set up for sushi dining," notes Boccuzzi. "The challenge will be to have people eat and get out."

If this place offers up the best Sushi in town...along with one of the best Sushi dining experiences (atmosphere, etc.)... there may be lines forming here early. I've not heard of reservations for a sushi bar ever, so those 4 tables (2 booths, 2 high tops) is possbly it for reserving a space at what could be the paragon of Sushi on a fairly busy street in foodie Cleveland??? God knows what the weekends will be like.

... Harlan's first order of business, he says, is to oversee the opening of the newest B Spot, set to open in the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland. "It's going to happen pretty fast," Harlan says. ...

i didn't really like the B-spot.  their fries were bad and their burgers were just aight

oh yeah that is so cool!! there is a restaurant that we like kind of like that in tribeca which is a western styled japanese-italian upstairs and they have a similar small sushi bar called sushi azabu in the basement:

A river of water will flow just beneath the glass-topped counter.

That's outrageous!!!

Oh, and I finally was able to dine at Melt, here in Lakewood. The last two times I went, the wait was one hour or more. The wait on Wednesday was 45 minutes, but the bar was open so we ate there. If anyone hasn't been there yet but wants to go, if there are two of you in your party, order one burger/sandwich. It is big enough to feed two people, as are the quantities of fries and slaw (which has a nice kick to it)!

^Heavy meal.... but da#% good!

Great news. This is going to be a great addition to Market District...cannot wait

love the exposed brick.  reminds me of many new orleans places.

Alesci's Downtown (on Huron Road) has a new owner as of this past Sunday.  The new owner (Jeff Burson) has worked there since it opened (I guess about 15 years ago) and pretty much ran the place so it won't change much (same food...maybe an expansion of some items).  A little cosmetic fix up is in the offering as well over the next few months.

The new name will be "Huron Point Tavern".  Hours will expand a bit.  They usually closed about 3:00 PM unless there was an event at the Q or Progressive Field.  They are now talking about being open regularly later on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, even without an event, and see how it goes.  Jeff is a great guy and very friendly.  If you live or work in the area he could use the support as he is another one of the good guys investing in downtown.

More info about the new Crop.  Sounds incredible:

Also describes this interesting part of the project:

So in addition to working with developers MRN Ltd. (best known as developers of Cleveland's East Fourth Street district), Schimoler struck a relationship with Manitowoc Foodservice.

The company distributes a broad range of commercial culinary equipment. The chef's beautiful open test kitchen is every inch state-of-the-art. The burnished 12-burner Garland cooktop could be the least of it. There's an odor-neutralizing ventilation system, an eco-friendly dishwasher and a water-filtration system that can make Lake Erie water emulate characteristics of New York City's water -- in case the chef wants to match the quality of bagels from the burroughs. Flourishes include pearl-handled Wedgwood knives, ultracontemporary Oneida china and Spiegelau crystal stemware.

"[Manitowoc] did this with the idea of creating a showcase where major food-service operations, representatives from institutions such as hospitals and schools, fast-food chains and chefs from around the U.S. can see the products in use," says Schimoler.

I was at Crop last night for a small open house before their soft opening on Thursday. The place is simply incredible. What they have done to a space that has been shuttered for twenty years is mind boggling.  The main dining room has 40 foot ceilings and you actually walk through the test kitchen to get to "the vault" which is the private party dining area. The vault itself is large enough to seat 75. The space is like nothing done in Cleveland...ever.

The new "Viaduct Lounge" (replacing Ponte Vecchio) has it's opening party this Friday and according to facebook they will have their grand opening a week or so later.  They also just hung a banner on the arch that is at the beginning of the Viaduct that was supposed to have "Stonebridge" on it originally.  Looking in the windows from the outside the overall layout doesn't appear to have changed but obviously the furniture and atmosphere will be different I assume.

Dante is opening a pasta restaurant in Strongsville, which won't be happy news for the downtown folks but is sure exciting for me!

^Do non-chains actually survive in Strongsville?

B-spot is packed every time I've been there, they are loving them down there. And the parking lot in front of the Brew Kettle is always full. Absolutely.

There's also a placed owned by the bucci folks that I only went to once (walked out after waiting 15 minutes to be seated), it always has a ton of cars as well. And the bar at the Pomeroy house has always been very busy when I used to go there.

^ the bar at the pomeroy house - that brings back memories of home lol!

crop sounds incredible i hope someone can get a few pics of it up :)

Your thinking of J. Bella.  Which if you do get seated their food is pretty good.  Not mind blowing good by any means.  And I do think their service leaves something to be desired.

There seemed to be alot of food news in Scene this week.  Especially quite a bit happening on Lee in Cleveland Heights.

"Last week, Cleveland Heights resident Keith Logan opened SweetieFry, a quaint little shop that serves "hand-crafted ice cream and impossibly good fries.""

"Wine Time: While Cleveland Heights residents were crushed to see Seitz-Agin Hardware close after more than 50 years, many will be thrilled to learn that a local resident is giving the space new life.  The Wine Spot, a retail wine and craft beer store. He will run the shop — which is expected to opening in November"

"Sayonara: After a relatively quiet three-year run, Ariyoshi, a sushi spot at 2206 Lee Rd., has closed. Taking its place will be the Heights Grill, a sports bar and pub."

Also interesting is the LaBoca/Roseangel/Barrio place in Detroit Shoreway is changing once again.........

"Spice Guy: Ben Bebenroth, the chef and owner of Spice of Life Catering, has taken over the Detroit-Shoreway property that in recent years — and months — has housed Snickers, La Boca, Roseangel, and most recently Barrio, which hosted its last salsa night last weekend.  Bebenroth will open Spice Kitchen and Bar sometime before the end of the year."

SO happy about the Spice of Life thing, I have been watching their updates on FB and can't wait to try it out. I go to detroit shoreway every month for something I do at cleveland public theater, so it's nice to discover new places there.

Interesting Cleveland burger-related news: Michael Symon recently tweeted something along the lines of Columbus' really popular Easton Town Center had gone a "different direction" in negotiations for the first B Spot down there - and therefore it wouldn't be opening at Easton. Noticed today that Hudson's Flip Side burger joint has just announced THEY will be opening at Easton - so there's the different direction  There had been some public slightly bad blood between the two when Flip Side opened - due to some way too similar things borrowed from B Spot.  Coincidentally, ate at Flip Side tonight for the 3rd or 4th time and really enjoyed it. I think it's quite a bit better than B Spot (where I've eaten probably 40 times) by all measures - burgers served on plates (imagine that) with crispy edges, great onion rings, better atmosphere, more attentive servers, etc.... (Symon could learn a bit... but even his employees now say he's taking no constructive input on B Spot changes - it's his way or no way, despite what we customers feel.)

Also, we're almost to November and no sign of the Symon pizza place that was to open in November on the east side (see link below). Perhaps The Chew got in the way.

^ i dont understand the bad blood thing. everyone and their mother is opening burger joints lately.

Havent tried Flip side, but any place that serves on plates with crispy edges gets my vote.  By the way they are based in Hudson and have an agreement to open one in the Aloft complex in the Flats East Bank.    According to this article they had signed the agreement by May for a spot in Columbus.

I may be late to the game on this, but yesterday I discovered www.delivermefood.com which accepts payment for and delivers food from numerous restaurants that don't otherwise deliver. The menus and prices for each participating restaurant are posted on the site. They have restricted delivery hours and can't provide info on daily specials, soups of the day, etc., and the delivery charge is $5 per order but they also don't seem to take tips as their delivery guy didn't wait around for me to give him a tip.

So I tried it last evening to get food delivered from Melt here in Lakewood. The order was correct and it was delivered toward the end of the time frame they gave me (45-60 minutes) but was still within that time.

I will be ordering through them again.

HUSH!

DeliverMeFood.com is great and it's value improves with the size of your order (the delivery charge is the same whether you're ordering for 1 or ordering for 8).

I've rarely had an on-time and 100% correct delivery from them, and they have very, very few restaurants in my neighborhood. I've used them 3 times and the average delivery time is probably around 75-80 minutes. That's a long-ass time for a restaurant that's usually no more than 10 or 15 minutes' drive time away. And before you get up in my kitchen about why don't I drive there, it's because my kid is sleeping and when I am home alone and don't feel like cooking, it would be nice to get delivery. Every other larger city seems to do better with delivery than we do. It's disappointing. I keep wanting to like and use them, but it just takes forever and often my order is incomplete or incorrect. They keep giving me discounts on future orders to account for the screw ups, and then the same thing happens again.

And before you get up in my kitchen about why don't I drive there, it's because my kid is sleeping and when I am home alone and don't feel like cooking, it would be nice to get delivery.

Yeah, even pseudoparenting like I'm doing these days (not live in but just about every evening) makes one realize that if you don't have kids, you just don't get it.

We're starting to teach Ardyn restaurant skills (the bar I work at is a pretty good restaurant during the day and evening) and I can see how the considerations differ when you have children (diaper changing area in the restrooms, stuff to occupy the kids during the wait, etc...)

It does change everything. I meet a GF with a kid the same age as mine for breakfast several times a year and we both drive like 40 minutes so we can meet at a Yours Truly just because they have a kid "wing" with a train table. It's just a part of the restaurant that's away from the other diners. We went to a YT last month that didn't have one, and it was tough. I don't need chuck e cheese but if there is SOMETHING, a corner or something with a few toys, I am definitely going there over another restaurant these days.

Chuck E Cheese still requires ibuprofen and earplugs....LOL.  Part of the "restaurant skills" we're trying to teach Ardyn is the "no crying" part.  :)

Maybe the key is to not use them on an impulse. When I use them it is planned ahead. Plus, not all food travels well.

I just think 80 minutes is too long to wait for delivery. I mean, if I were getting delivery from the E side to the W side or something, I wouldn't complain. Plus there are a lot of restaurants in my neighborhood that they don't have on their list. I have emailed them about that.

When I read your posts, all I can think of is Joes Btfsplk from Li'l Abner...

And I do understand the driving thing with kids. I selectively get into people's kitchen these days. ;-)

Bad Luck Schleprock, it's true. I have always been very unlucky!

For the last several years, I've been a meeting planner as part of my job duties, as I think I've mentioned. Part of that job, in the good old days when we had travel budgets, was that I would travel to the properties I was considering in advance of booking to do what they call a site visit - best if it involved an overnight stay, the visit gives you a chance to check things out, experience life as a guest for the day, meet with their meetings staff and other members of hotel management and get a feel for how things would flow if you had the meeting at their property. So if I were looking at Midtown Atlanta, I might tour 3 or 4 hotels and spend the night at 1. I always told the hotel people that due to my unlucky qualities, I was always a hard sell as I was always the one that had the broken lamp bulb or found that the iron was broken when I went to use it, or that the heat didn't work int he living room, or the room service menu was missing. One night after multiple complaints about a broken toilet (leaking), they upgraded me to a nicer room and sent an amenity. This is where I found the heat was broken in the outer room, but too tired to complain further, I had a glass of wine and went to crawl into bed - my foot made a weird crinkling sound as I stepped on something - I peeked under the edge of the bed to see what it was. It was a used condom wrapper (not the condom, just the outer wrapper). I just got a look like Bugs Bunny on my face and got into bed.

If there's something to go wrong somewhere, I will find it.

That's nasty!!!!

I was also thinking of Bad Luck Schleprock, but I think Joe Btfsplk came first.
