Strange things going on in barland indeed.

A bit much to digest all at once.

Happy to hear about Hodge's humming along on a Tuesday. Still need to make it over...

Pretty good martini at chocolate bar last night. Pretty massive crowd too

The Wife and I went to DC Pasta, Dante Boccuzzi's new place in Strongsville, and I have to say that the food was pretty darn good.  They've only been open for maybe 2 months now, but everything seemed to be flowing well.  The server did say that they are going to be introducing some dinner specials soon (none at the time of our visit) and playing around with some more seasonal foods.  The great thing about their menu in my opinion is their $5 taste's of pasta.  It's a great way to try a lot of new and interesting pastas/flavors.

The space/atmosphere is terrible though as it is in an oddly shaped plaza off Pearl Rd.  It was terrible when it was Palate too, so I don't think anything interesting can be done in that regard.  But cheap wine (25 bottles all under $25) can make things look better for sure.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop to open new location on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND - A popular sandwich shop announced it’s opening up a new restaurant in downtown Cleveland.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop posted on its website that a new store is going in at 515 Euclid Ave.

The store will occupy a vacant storefront that sits below a parking garage at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East Sixth Street. In the last couple weeks, crews covered the windows and started working inside.

There’s no word yet from the company when the restaurant will open.

Check out Potbelly’s menu here: http://on.wews.com/Inirrw

This will be the second Potbelly shop to open in northeast Ohio. A restaurant in SOM Center Plaza in Mayfield Heights is set to open sometime this summer.

It is Strongsville...not exactly an exciting urban atmosphere anywhere in the burb.

Nope, which is why I went in with low expectations.  I was still very underwhelmed.  Maybe I should rephrase, even for Strongsville the atmosphere is terrible.  The food make up for it so just close your eyes and eat some delicious pasta.

"BRGR9" coming to 1382 W. 9th (formerly Zdara)

As the sign says...Burgers, fries, shakes and  salads.

Should be good since I'm pretty sure that the same owner of Heck's is in charge

Heck's burgers downtown...yum

There is also movement in old water street / 6th city diner space on west 9th.  Lease signs are down and there have been some meetings going on the last week in the space.

My brother and I envisioned an awesome mixed-adventure type facility with a floor or 2 like Dave & Buster's arcade style, a floor with a bowling alley and laser tag, etc., a floor with an ice-rink and/or pool, etc.  I think that would be AWESOME.  Anyway, here's a pic I snapped quickly of the Tilted Kilt, windows have been opened up for us to see inside.  Sorry it's not too good, couldn't get a reasonable view but it looks spectacular inside.  There's a giant suit of armor, a ship, a bunch of flags and maps and such... all it needs now is the waitresses and those TV's tuned to ESPN.

??? Is that tilted kilt?

??? Is that tilted kilt?

Yep, he said so in his message.

I saw on Monday that they had a full house of workers in there, in what appeared to be a training session.

Yeah my brother-in-law was kinda sorta thinking about putting a restaurant here but, lo and behold, somebody else already got to it.

W. 9th is seeing renewed interest because of FEB.

We just need the street re-paved, please.

^I would be shocked W9th wasn't paved very shortly after the completion of the office building and hotel.  I'd also be extremely surprised if the city or developer didn't add some pleasant lighting under the bridge.  It would be nice to see them do something creative there.

Yes, I'm guessing the same thing after most of the heavy truck traffic for this phase is gone.

I'm always for lighting anywhere. The right lighting really changes everything.

And for anybody intrigued by the Tilted Kilt, these nice girls were doing PR today. The pub and eatery isnt open yet though.

Barf.

I'm with RnR

As someone who is old enough to remember Prospect Ave. 'back in the day', but young enough to see how it's changed... those outfits are nothing new to the area, but those wearing them... well that's a whole other story. Not unlike when Lady Gaga came to town.

Yeah but at least the girls and guys wearing the types of "work uniform" weren't false advertising.  LOL  You knew exactly what you were buying.  This place is ramping up the sex, yet we don't know what the food, ambiance and service will be.

Also, if they are going for mass appeal, why no (shirtless) guys in uniform?  Having two girls, dressed in this manner, scream sexist to me.

Duh, the whole concept is blatantly sexist. I have much less of a problem with strip clubs than places like this one and Hooters, who try to claim they are a restaurant or something, but are just an excuse for you to hit on all the servers.

Agreed!

I can't post what I actually call this place...a play on words of the name...but every time I walk by those stupid advertisements it makes me a little ill.  Maybe Diamond Men's Club won't have to have so many vans downtown now that there's a similar place to walk to...:)

I would not be surprised to seem them add a pole at the Tilted Kilt like they have at the Diamond.

Why do we have to be ripping on the Diamond???

I just hope the food is better than Hooters...Barf! Although I probably won't ever end in there. Not with Nick's Sports Corner right down the street.

Lakewood related restaurant news, sign in the renovated building across from MELT, on the corner of Detroit and Warren has a coming soon sign for a "Ed and Eddies" and something about Burgers and Bourbon. Anybody know anything about this?

Also I grabbed a late night takeout sandwich fromthe Lakewood MELT on Saturday night and Matt Fish was up at the counter in his cook's gear telling the counter guy what to do for closing, so it looks like he was working the kitchen on Saturday night. I take that as a good sign that he has take some of the rumblings (mostly on FB) that quality has declined with the expansion, to heart. My "Dude Abides" was definately better than then the last one I had.

"Klassy"?  Child Boo!  (Sofia Petrillo voice) The girl with the tat is a slut!

Do you know her personally?

I agree that the concept is trashy and degrading, but can we please not say things like this about individuals?

I dont have to know her!  No respectable girl would do that to her body!  She aint no Virgin!

I know I'm getting old because I look at those two and all I see are girls closer to my daughter's age than mine. Put some clothes on young lady!

I can't even ogle any more. I need to buy a Corvette or something.

Ok, back on topic, and that goes for me too!

Ok, here's on topic. The wife and I are going to Luxe for the first time on Saturday. Any suggestions? I searched on here for some reviews and it sounds like it was pretty well received when it opened. Any one been there recently?

I have not been in awhile, but it was decent to good the last time I went. I remember the pizza being good.

Just saw on FB that an Indian restaurant is going into the old Waterstreet Grill space on W 9th.

Get a pizza, it's been a while since I have been there too. But the pizza was always Dee-lish. I also had some pasta dishes that were really good too.

RnR,

Don't tease me. Where did you see it? I've been dying for a Thai or Indian place to open downtown.

The wings at Luxe are great for an app.  Excellent drinks as well!

From a reputable bar owner who would know what's happening in town.

That's fantastic. Thanks for the scoop.

Funny you should ask.  I remember  reading about this place about a year ago and wondered what happened, and then the other day in the PD this:

BACK ON TRACK IN LAKEWOOD . . .

Readers have been asking: Whatever happened to plans for a new burger spot in the Detroit Avenue and Warren Road area of Lakewood? You'll recall that last summer, restaurateur Ed Cerino -- a scion of the famed Carrie Cerino's family -- announced he and his son, Eddie Cerino, would be opening Eddie 'n' Eddie Burgers, Bourbon and Apple Pie in that neighborhood.

"After a frustrating five-month halt to construction," writes the restaurateur in an email, "we are finally back under construction in Lakewood."

The restaurant is on schedule to open in July, Cerino adds. He'll continue to run the house at his perennially hopping Eddie's Pizzeria Cerino in Seven Hills.

Regarding Fat Fish Blue's replacement.

The concept is what it is and if it is an underperforming place for TK then it will close.

Do I wish that it was in a different location? yes.  Understatement of the year.

In the end, I do like storefronts getting leased downtown.

B-Spot could've set up an outpost in this space and made a killing, but instead we have two hidden-away B-Spots downtown.

there could've been a multitude of better things here.

2 good things about this...I like the way it becomes 'open-air' when the full length (louvered?) glass doors/windows are open.

And yesterday it appeared as though the 10-story parking garage that sits above this ground floor retail is getting painted. It was a nice beige. Don't know if it is the final color, or if they're doing the entire garage, but it looks much better.  It's currently discolored and rusted in places.

What are the best sports bars downtown these days?  I've lost track which places are still operating around Gateway and elsewhere downtown.  Thoughts?

Glad to hear they're painting the garage. Regardless of your view on TK when I was looking at it the other day I was distracted by how run down the garage looked.

I was trying to figure this out with the wife a few days ago as she has co-workers from Philly coming in for the RRHOF inductions and they want to watch the Flyers game.

Basically the options are as follows:

Corner Alley

Harry Buffalo

Cadillac Ranch

Winking Lizard

Panninis (E9th)

Clevelander

City Tap

We decided that Clevelander, City Tap, and Corner Alley were the best of those.  We personally hate that Winking Lizard as it is a freaking maze.  I've never been in Cadillac Ranch, and want to keep it that way, so can't really comment.  Harry Buffalo has some of the slowest service DT.  Pannini's is OK, but the one on E9th I don't think is really set up for it.

^Awesome, thank you.

Cleveland Flats project adding restaurants to first phase

tobykeithstorefront.jpg

A Cleveland development project called Flats East Bank has announced plans to add a country-music venue and several restaurants, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Those additions will be in the project’s first phase and a second, $120 million phase is being planned, according to the report.

The restaurants include Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, a steak and seafood eatery, a burger joint, gourmet taco restaurant and another local eatery that is relocating to the Flats, the paper said.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop to set up shop in downtown Cleveland

A Potbelly Sandwich Shop is bound for 515 Euclid Ave. in downtown Cleveland by early June as the Chicago-based, 200-store chain starts to chomp into the Northeast Ohio food market.

The chain, which offers handmade sandwiches and made-to-order salads, will employ about 25 people at its Cleveland store, said Potbelly spokeswoman Ann Aldrich. The company decorates its stores with local artifacts and offers live music at lunchtime to create a “hang out” atmosphere

iirc, I had to stand corrected on this question a year or so ago and the one that was first listed by everyone was Little Bar and Grill on Frankfort.

But, wait, maybe the question back then was "downtown neighborhood bars". I can't remember.

I was going to suggest the Little Bar, but I'm not sure it's what I'd think of as a "sports bar," more of a hole in the wall. Most bars have TVs, so that isnt' what makes a sports bar either. I think it's a large menu with crappy snacky type food as well as lots of big screens, and the Little Bar doesn't really fit that definition.
