Posted December 8, 20186 yr On a frigid day today, while riding and walking along Cleveland RTA bus rapid transit lines along the West Shoreway and Euclid Avenue, I snapped some quick ride-by shots of construction projects (and a couple of planned/proposed construction sites).... (unfortunately the photo uploader doesn't allow me to post the pictures in the order I wanted, from west to east...oh well) Great Lakes Shipyard expansion as seen from the #55 on the West Shoreway. New West Side High School. Hard to see at the right, but construction is underway on the Church+State development (mixed-use development with an 11-story apartment building and 6-story apartment building over retail and parking). In front of the Stonebridge Waterfront (tall building), Activity Capital is proposing an 11-story apartment building at 2210 Superior Viaduct. Heading east on Euclid where HealthLine BRT vehicles roam. May Company renovation of 800,000 square foot department store into apartments, parking, retail with the 28-story Beacon high-rise apartment building under construction in the distance on Euclid Ave. Jumping east (argh...) on Euclid, we arrive at the construction site of the 34-story Lumen apartment building. The 21-story Keith Building beyond is being renovated into more modern offices. Looking down on the Lumen site from the adjoining Hanna parking garage. The Hanna Building, next to the Lumen construction site. Lumen tower crane. The 11-story Edge apartments, opened in 2017, are beyond. Street-level view of the Lumen site. Playhouse Square with the Lumen crane peeking. HealthLine BRT bus pulls up to a crowded East 6th station. Site of a proposed City Club Apartment tower. It's called City Club Apartments not because of the neighboring historic City Club building but because that's the developer's national brand. BTW, the 22-story Ohio Bell/AT&T Building in the distance at right is planned to see 12 floors renovated as a Canopy Hotel. Stark Enterprises' The Beacon under-construction apartment tower atop the 2005-built 515 Euclid Ave. parking deck. Multiple construction/renovation projects are visible in this view down Euclid Avenue from the front of the Halle Building (also under renovation into apartments and offices). The red-bricked Statler Arms apartments is under renovation. Across Euclid from it is the Athlon apartments (former Cleveland Athletic Club) under renovation. Next to the Statler are the former John Hartness Brown buildings being renovated into the Euclid Grande mixed use development. Beyond that is the 1.3 million square foot The Centennial (former 925 Euclid/Huntington/Union Commerce Bank) about to be renovated into apartments, offices, and shops. A few buildings west is the yellow-clad (for now) Beacon apartment tower. Euclid Grande renovations (four John Hartness Brown buildings) and, at left, The Centennial, about to start renovations. Looking the other direction at the Euclid Grande and the towering Centennial beyond. The Athlon apartments (former Cleveland Athletic Club). Yes, back west to the May Co. at Public Square, thanks to this difficult-to-understand photo uploader. Wrapping up with another view of The Beacon. Thanks for riding and walking in the chilly Cleveland air, but in a hot real estate market. December 17, 20186 yr The 4th and 5th Pics from last. This looks identical to a facade project that was happening to several buildings when I first started lurking in here back in 2008. Please tell me this Isn't the same group of buildings?
December 17, 20186 yr ^If you are talking about the John Hartness Brown Buildings on Euclid, yes it seems it has taken that long, with a couple of lawsuits thrown in for good measure. The good news is that it is not just a façade project (more than 200 apartments), it is finally fully financed and "real" construction has commenced.
December 17, 20186 yr Good stuff. What's the first picture of, somewhere over where the Shoreway ends on near west side?
December 17, 20186 yr Author Thanks. That's the Great Lakes Shipyard expansion project that will result in the addition of 100+ permanent, good-paying jobs including a cooperative apprenticeship program with Max Hayes High School.... Great Lakes Towing, shipyard could expand onto 10 acres of Cleveland waterfront land (photos, video) https://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2016/04/great_lakes_towing_shipyard_co.html "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
December 17, 20186 yr Author P.S. I added photo captions. When I posted the pics, I didn't realize that I could insert labels in between the photos. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
