I thought it could be a fun idea to post your favorite street segments in Ohio. It can be a portion of a street that you find really beautiful, has a cool collection of businesses, has historical importance, scenic vistas from it- whatever. Please post streetview links!

I'll start:

1) Neil Ave, Columbus. Between King and Buttles

https://www.google.com/maps/@39.97978,-83.0116372,3a,75y,149.57h,82.21t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sK_JCsk8-S7RjOJe0EbZ56A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

2) Main St., OTR Cincinnati. Between 12th and Liberty

3) Woodburn Ave., East Walnut Hills Cincinnati. Between Burdette and Madison

4) Chestnut St., Mariemont. Between Plainville and Beech

Wow, the entrance to Cedar Point Road is fantastic! Very unique and really beautiful! I'm also a big fan of landscaped parkways, so that Wayne St. example is also very cool.

Excited to see what others decide to share!

There aren't many states that have such a sheer variety of different streetscapes as we do... it makes me so mad that we're considered to be exclusively suburban Midwestern sprawl here! Anyway, here are a few of my selections:

I had a professor who lived on Elmwood.  He had a party at his house at the beginning of the year and his wife was the biggest crabapple imaginable.  She was from a wealthy family and complained endlessly about Athens ("you can't get fresh seafood...").  The professor was from a wealthy family too and the a year later the two of them split and all sorts of negative energy spilled into our department.

The thing about Athens was that there were always these people there who hated it, and a lot of them were the spouses of professors who were DRAGGED THERE KICKING AND SCREAMING for their husband's or wife's career.   The fact that the place is actually really nice and 95% of the people are in a great mood all the time gets them even angrier.

I like how the Google Street View vehicle flipped the bird to that Road Closed sign at the start of Elmwood Place.

How DARE small-town Appalachia actually be charming and nice?!

It's just like the people who hate on Ohio their entire lives but keep sending their kids to Oberlin or Kenyon.

The divorce rate for SSU professors is sky high for the same reason -- except that Athens is 100X nicer than Portsmouth and tons of people are NOT in a good mood.

#2 is awesome! It is still detached housing, but the lack of front setback and very minimal side setbacks almost makes the street look like an eclectic stretch of rowhouses in Pittsburgh or something. Very cool, but disappointing to see the nothingness that the street empties out to. I imagine a lot of Cleveland looked like this street at one point.

I get the appeal of #1 with the old apartment buildings on one side of the street and the huge parkways and front yards. Would be cooler if the other side of the street was also developed with those multi family buildings.

Is #3 a joke? It looks totally abandoned and riddled with trash...

Not a joke, I genuinely really like that street. Maybe it's me glamorizing "ruin porn" (which I try not to do), but it's so representative of how impressive a lot of E.C. used to be and how far it's fallen. Even in their overgrown, abandoned state, they're some really cool apartment buildings. There aren't many "apartment streets" like that around the state outside of a few areas on the east side of greater Cleveland.

As for #1, most of the rest of West Boulevard is big single-family houses set back far from the street with huge, grand trees. I generally don't find Cleveland's "rich" or "upper middle class" houses quite as appealing as what one might find in East Walnut Hills or something, but the overall effect of West Boulevard really makes a great impression.

“To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

North Moreland Blvd can be used instead of Chapman for an intact version of what BigDipper is describing. Also Hampshire in Cleveland Heights.

^Yeah, I also considered listing a bunch of stuff around Shaker Square, but I figured I'd try to not hog every cool street in Cleveland! Euclid Heights Blvd in C.H. also has some great apartment rows.

I was thinking of several streets around the Coventry and Shaker Square areas, but I don’t remember the exact streets I walked down. That whole area is beautiful though.

Unfortunately they've razed most of it since this StreetView was captured.

Rosemont Rd in East Cleveland:

Most of the houses, despite mass abandonment, are still there. Additionally, they're generally all pretty unique and it's a street I really hope to see saved.

Very intact and the way the five streets intersect is really cool.

Back when I lived on the east coast I had a colleague whose wife had taken a professor job at OU and they were moving to Athens. He knew I went to OU and expressed to be his concerns about moving there. He had never lived off the east coast or outside a big city. He had never been to Ohio. He was concerned about the lack of diversity and things to do, and also his own job prospects. Two years later I ran into him in Athens and he raved about how much he loved it. He peaceful and beautiful it is and how he doesn't ever want to leave. So opposite situation there haha.

I think I had a very different experience than you haha. I drank with a few professors but never heard of any illicit activity in my departments. Also, most of my professors lived in Athens, on either the south side or the east side. I didn't know any that lived in Chauncey or The Plains or anywhere like that. I did have one who lived in Parkersburg, a couple who lived in Columbus, and one who lived in Akron. I was amazed by his willingness to make that commute.

Yes, this area is fantastic. My sister used to live near here when she lived right on the border of Lakewood and Cleveland. I always got a Northside Chicago type of feel from these streets. The good stuff only seemed to last for the first few blocks closest to the lake/parks, but it's a very cool area.

I found another awesome street while poking around Google Maps in German Village- Lazelle St.

Baltimore or Cbus?

Yes, this area is fantastic. My sister used to live near here when she lived right on the border of Lakewood and Cleveland. I always got a Northside Chicago type of feel from these streets. The good stuff only seemed to last for the first few blocks closest to the lake/parks, but it's a very cool area.

There are some great streets south of Detroit, but people tend to miss them. A lot of Victorians between Detroit and Madison.

Down in Cudell there are some cool streets, too.

That's pretty cool. Very much like DC, Philly, Brooklyn, Boston...

I moved from Philly so I'm always delighted when I stumble upon Philly-like streets in Cincy.

I bet they wouldn't have done that in the early 2000s when you had to sit through 10,000 traffic lights in Canal Winchester and Lancaster alone to get from Columbus to Athens.

Was going to post West 31st Place, Professor, and Literary but figured I'd leave it to a Clevelander haha. Those are great streets.

West 31st Place is my favorite street in Cleveland. But many of the alley ways in Ohio City are pretty great too, like West 29th Pl at Bunnell Court...

Or Mable Court west of Fulton...

yes ohio has a great variety of nice streetscapes — there are too many urban scape streets to chose. really almost every city has some.

so i am going to pick bigger stretches i liked.

route 105 between woodville and bg.

route 2 between toledo and sandusky.

stafford road in peninsula deep in cuyahoga valley — or really anywhere around there. especially in the snowy winter. just magical.

and for a more popular choice route 315 olentangy river road from delaware into osu columbus is much nicer than I-71 into columbus.

oh and i almost forgot but there is a stretch of route 83 around lodi that has a series of perfect hills where you can take air and be perfectly weightless better than the best roller coasters.

Good to know.

So it was basically her equivalent of Eddie coming out during a Maiden show or an inflatable pig flying around when Pink Floyd plays something from Animals.

This was late 2000s so you got to bypass those places but still had to go through Nelsonville.

I have to agree with an earlier poster...Hessler St. in Cleveland!  How can you NOT like a street made of wood!?!?  Does anyone know if there are other streets around the state that are made of wood?    https://clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/829#&gid=1&pid=2

Technically it's Hessler Ct. ?

Hessler Road is brick.

Posted the same street twice. Whoops.

There is at least one alleyway in OTR in Cincy  that has wood pavers. I'm completely drawing a blank which alleyway it is, but it's somewhere around Main Street.
