I remember being in HS (HS class of 2000) when I was in cross country and track and hearing tales about Alan Webb.  No YouTube back in those days or I'm sure we've have been watching clips of him.

Its a shame Ohio State doesn't have a better track team.  If OSU, allowed their football athletes to compete in two sports like the SEC or PAC 12 ohio state would be MUCH more competitive.

NYC Marathon: Olympic, world record and marathon legends coming to Staten Island once again

Published: Oct. 24, 2023

In one of the most dramatic races in Olympic history, American Dave Wottle, running in dead last for most of the race, roared ahead to beat the best of the world and win the 1972 Munich 800 meters.

“It brings back memories of the time when I signed up to run track in the ninth grade at Canton Lincoln High School,” recalled Wottle. “That decision changed my life and started me on a journey that would allow me to travel all over the world, to dream of someday competing in the Olympic Games, and eventually to stand on the top step of an Olympic platform.

“I can only hope that participating in track and field will also be that meaningful to each of these young runners during their lifetime….”

Most people have heard of Karl Marx, but few know of his also historically famous sister, Onya, an Olympic runner.

She is still mentioned at the start of every track race.
