Posted March 1, 200421 yr ...Looks like it, according to Forbes: http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/02/29/loc_p.young29.html I tend to disagree... I'm in my mid-20s and just moved to Cincinnati last summer. I love it. Far better than anywhere I've been in my home state, Michigan. There are tons of festivals, excellent parks, great museums, fun bars with great patios, beautiful views, and vibrant, walkable neighborhoods. My only real complaint is an utter lack of rail (not that I'm used to it in MI), but the bus system is usually competent and I use it every day.
March 1, 200421 yr It's cool to hear stuff from people who moved here from somewhere else. We people who have been here longer sometimes get sucked up into biases. That article was that Pittsburgh/Cincinnati thing, right? I know the rankings are at least a couple of months old and I think it came up in SSP. Honestly, the only people I've ever run across who find Cincinnati completely lacking in fun are either people who expect Cincy to have the same things going on as New York, Chicago or LA...or complete and total snobs who either have to be handed fun on a silver platter or would rather just bitch and complain because they like to hear themselves talk.
March 1, 200421 yr The more I think about it, I have a hard time picturing what type of respondents in the 25-34 age range (covered by the Forbes survey) would honestly answer negatively about the region. Maybe just people who grew up in West Chester or Blue Ash and work in the office parks out there? The people I meet in the city in that age range seem to enjoy themselves. P.S., I thought of a couple more fun spots: the horse tracks (Turfway and River Downs) and the world's largest recirculating pool at Coney Island. Reds tickets are still only $5 too!

I am 27 and moved here in June from St. Louis. I spent 5 years here and can tell you that Cincinnati has far more going on for it than many give it credit for. Like you said, I have never lived in a city that has so many festivals. I love it! The downtown has issues but look around people, it is in better condition than many cities in the region. I do find Cincinnatians more cynical than St. Louisans. But being a cynical person myself, I can understand but some Cincinnatians go overboard. Maybe that is why Cincinnati gets a bad rap. They tend wear their complaints on their shoulder so when someone asks, they pour it out. My main complaint is also lack of light rail. As for the West Chester comment. I doubt it is people from West Chester. They are only 5 minutes from the 2nd best amusement park in the country. We all know which one is #1.... Sit back and look at all the places we have for nightlife: 1. Over-the-Rhine 2. Mt. Adams 3. Mt. Lookout 4. Northside 5. Mainstrasse 6. Newport 7. Hyde Park Don't sweat the haters. Many haven't even been here. I suggest to them to walk the Purple People Bridge in May on a sunny day. Stop half way across the bridge and look around... You will see beautiful skyscrpapers surrounded by beautiful green bluffs and leisure boats all over the Ohio River with the breathless Roebling Bridge on one side and the modern Big Mac Bridge on the other. While you stopped for that view, you probably had a few people on bicycles pass you by as they bike from Newport to Cincinnati. If people opened their eyes and lost the biasness, they would see Cincinnati is a great city. Let me also remind you that I am from NEW YORK and lived near ORLANDO for 10 years.
March 4, 200421 yr kendall, where did you used to live in michigan monte, being a shameless detroit promoter, detroit claims to have the most summer time festivals. Don't ask how they measure it, they just do.
March 6, 200421 yr ^ No Problem. I thought you lived in Cleveland though? I would claim Cleveland over Detroit if I were you especially since you were born a Buckeye.
March 6, 200421 yr I grew up in Kalamazoo, MI. Not a bad little place, but Cincinnati offers much more. The only thing I really miss is proximity to Lake Michigan.
October 12, 200717 yr I grew up in Madison, WI and lived in Atlanta, Colorado Springs, Dayton, Middletown and Germany too. I like Cincinnati the best, maybe equal to Madison. And, I don't like Ohio in general. I felt that Middletown in particular was more southern/less tolerant than Atlanta, largely due to the yankee transplants in Atlanta. Dayton has next to nothing going on (I have a friend who still lives in the Oregon district which has the last pulse found in the city). Dayton is a big suburb typified by the new Greene called "fake town" by my friends because of its similarity to a mixed use urban setting without the muss and fuss of an actual city. Cincinnati is great. I would have left Ohio long ago if we hadn't have moved down here. All the young people we know from out of town say the same thing, "I never thought that I would like this place, but now that we are here it is really great."
October 12, 200717 yr Please keep the Dayton bashing to yourself. Thanks. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

October 12, 200717 yr Shhh... Don't give away all our secrets... Don't sweat the haters. Many haven't even been here. I suggest to them to walk the Purple People Bridge in May on a sunny day. October 16, 200717 yr I don't know who they're polling, because I'm a 20 year old in Milwaukee (which has more festivals than any other US city, and was voted #2 party city behind Las Vegas by Maxim Magazine) and I have every intention of moving to Cincinnati as soon as I finish my undergrad. It's an incredible city full of character, life, and beauty. They must have been polling people who haven't actually been to the city, because society hasn't painted a good picture for Cincy. When I ask people around here who haven't been there, they say "Ugh, isn't that the ghetto town that had those riots a few years ago?" That's all they know about. But when I talk to people who've actually been to Cincinnati, they all agree that it's an amazing place. A couple of years ago, my mother took a MASSIVE three month road trip through Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Boston, Providence, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, St Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, and Des Moines. All places she'd never been before (except Des Moines.) And the one city that she couldn't stop talking about and took the most pictures of is Cincinnati. She kept talking about how blown away she was by the city compared to the rest (Remember she went to places like Boston, New York, and Chicago.) My point is that Cincinnati already shows itself well. It just needs to get the word out by hosting some national and international sporting events, or getting some movie deals. MTV's Real World: Cincinnati would be great, or even the Cincinnati 2020 Olympics.
October 17, 200717 yr I too moved here 4 years ago from PA. and I can tell you that I wasn't planning on living here and buying a home, but fell in love with Cincinnati. It's a great city and I think a big problem is that the people, esp. the young, don't give the city any credit. My wife and I temporarly moving over seas for 2 years, and I can tell you that if the banks project, street car project, etc....aren't moving forward, we may actually look at another city to live in. Just my 2 cents.

I think that the YP mentality is starting to change though (from neg to pos). It seems like the more time passes the more vibrant DT is starting to become. People are starting to fill the streets and there have actually been a few times where I was caught in traffic DT late on the weekends! All of this is true and you can tell from where restaurants and developers are starting to put their money. Think about it ... how many new restaurants/bars have opened up in the last 24 months?!
October 18, 200717 yr I think that downtown Cincinnati needs to start advertising more. I've seen some advertising on the highways, but I'm talking TV commercials. Also, peoples images of Cincinnati need to change. I'm not sure about everyone else on here, but I'm in favor of the street car downtown. Their seems to be a fair amount of people against the street car and those same people are the ones who have a bad image of downtown. Interesting comments of the street car can be found here: http://frontier.cincinnati.com/comments/threadview.asp?threadid=177
October 18, 200717 yr Those people who are against the streetcar represent a minority. Most people support this effort, and even more would if they understood what the actual proposal is. Many seemed to be uninformed about the feasibility study and the financial plan...correspondingly those seem to be the same people opposed to the whole thing.
October 22, 200717 yr I have seen a few Cincinnati USA commercials. They're not saturating the airwaves or anything, but they're there.
October 22, 200717 yr when living in columbus, i saw cincinnati usa commercials a lot. they were fine except for the annoying little kid generic laugh at the end. i like the tag : come stay with us and we'll stay with you. better than "All together surprising."

LOL! What the heck does "All-together"--anything, mean?
October 26, 200717 yr I dont think 18th is a bad thing. Lets think about it: 1st most competitive place for young professionals in ohio... and the region (no city in kentucky was included, and the only city included from indiana was indianapolis and that was at 38th or something). Cincinnati's a cool city.
