Posted October 7, 200420 yr Medina, Ohio population: 24,139. seat of medina county, which has 150000 people. surely none of that is because of cleveland... a city built around a square of a park. the kind where the roads make intersections at the corners, not meet on the sides of the perimeter. the courthouse is on the perimeter of the square, and is not the focal point of medina. okay, i don't know anything about medina, thats why i keep rambling above. originally named mecca, changed name to medina. i heard about 150 years ago someone kicked over a lamp and started a big fire here, but it stopped right in front of the courthouse...and that the city is known for beekeeping or something. gee, i can't even find much history on the internet either. here it is: the current courthouse the good courthouse and let's around walk the square... some jammin' in the gazebo whoa... i like this side the best
October 7, 200420 yr Back in the late 80s I had to learn Ohio History (7th grade, we had no options) and the text book we used (which was probally published between 1980-1985) did a brief mention about Medina trying to attrach visitors/customers (the time line for the following I don't know, but I'd imagine it would be anywhere from the mid 60s up till 1980). Evidently, they first tried some sort of corrigated metal look to the exterior of the businesses. Thankfully, they quickly reconsidered and decided to go with the "old fashioned" look, which still stands today evidently. Also, can anyone ID that car in the first photo? It looks more antique than the courthouse.
October 7, 200420 yr I think the car is a Triumph TR3. I once lived in Medina and the dowtown square area was restored in the 70ies and is quite lovely, worth a visit not far from Cleveland.
October 7, 200420 yr Yea i love visiting my relatives in Medina and driving through the square. Great shots

The TR-3 was bigger, and the fender line dipped a lot by the time it got to the rear edge of the door. My first guess on this one is a late-fifties Austin Healy Sprite. The MG Midget was similar in appearance and size. An Air Force buddy had a Sprite that he drove from Bloomington, Indiana to San Angelo, Texas on something like $8 worth of gas, back when gas was about $.35 a gallon.
October 10, 200519 yr medina has a nice town square. funny my next door neighbor here in my greenwich village apt building is from medina. he is amazed how suburbanized it has gotten.
October 10, 200519 yr Cool, thriving downtown area with restored buildings. Lots of locally-owned businesses as well. What are the demos of medina? Is it an upper-class area? That new courthouse is just plain and boring though.
October 11, 200519 yr medina has a nice town square. funny my next door neighbor here in my greenwich village apt building is from medina. he is amazed how suburbanized it has gotten. I used to travel to Medina a lot for business a few years ago. It's almost like being in two different towns; you've got the older parts of Medina centered around the town square (which I absolutely love!), but then you go up a few blocks and you right smack in the middle of sprawlburg.
January 18, 200619 yr I've driven through Medina quite a few times (once during the ice sculpture festival), but I've never stopped and got out of the car at the square! I should do that, the next time I'm over that way!
