Does anyone post over there? And if so, how can you stand it? That place is just a mess. I am not a member but I can barely stand perusing the site. So much idiocy and such.

I will refrain from answering that question but basically:

 

I was kicked off 1-2 years ago. 

 

I started a thread on that terrible website here around 2013 but it was lost in one of the crashes. 

The whole premise is psychotic since the users are lured in by using the site to select where they live through reading which ZIP has the lowest crime stats.

Well "Browntown" just received a permanent ban from Skyscraperpage.com. 

 

That guy checked all the boxes.  Thought he was the smartest dude on the planet and endlessly trolled that minor forum (no doubt much less traffic than city-data or skyscrapercity). 

 

Years -- according to his profile nearly a decade -- of trolling pretty much every thread on that forum.  Like, hundreds of them.  Endlessly trolled the California HSR thread. 

 

Who the hell are these people?!

Skyscraperpage seems to have entered a death spiral, unfortunately. There is way way less traffic there than there used to be. Way too many p#ssing matches that go on ever and anon between members, say like Crawford and The North One. They just go back and forth in threads for page after page...it gets tiresome.

I post on the Cincinnati one periodically.  But mostly just to help people want to move into the city or looking for ideas on things to do. 

 

A few years back when Jake got kicked off there was an insane streetcar thread. Many of the anti-streetcar folks in that thread have either been banned or stopped posting. During that time, myself and about 4 or 5 other pro-streetcar posters decided to quit feeding the trolls.  There's still handful of posters that like to come on and post about how they hate streetcar, but they are mostly ignored or ridiculed especially since it's been pointed out they're spewing nonsense and how none of them live in the city. Once we stooped feeding the trolls the Cincinnati sub has become much more relaxing. I still post occasionally in the streetcar threads just because that site still draws a lot of clicks from outside of Cincinnati. The most recent streetcar thread has somebody from Scotland asking about it. I find it easy to reply directly to people asking real questions and to just ignore the trolls talking about "how the choo choo is always empty" or other insane things now.

Love it or hate, people are pulled there in Google searches for Northeast Ohio relocation help.

 

I'd suggest at least helping in the Cleveland section from time to time.  http://www.city-data.com/forum/cleveland/

Ah yes, Crawford.  Another special piece of work. 

Yeah, it's turned in a unique disaster of poster over there. More and more it seems like the same 5 posters that do nothing all day but interject random off topic homer stuff into every single thread. 

I think I look at it every Monday and that's about it. 

 

 

City Data is dead in the water, at least the local forums I see are.

 

You'll see the Cincy forum go for a week without a post sometimes... it's crazy. The racists ran everyone else out.

 

I think a lot of that traffic then moved over to Facebook, for better or worse, and they comment on news stories because they got bored of their own echo chamber.

 

The more progressive / urban minded crowd has seemed to either stick with places like UO, colonize/terrorize places like Middletown USA (now if y'all are looking for a fun forum... THAT'S a fun forum lol. A special breed of crazy lives there.)

...OR they've moved on to Reddit, because where else can you mix pornography, dating advice, cooking tips, and urban discussion besides there?

People complain when we stop the same thing here, but this is why!

Probably? I haven’t been over there regularly in about a year, I had to drop off from commenting on there and all other forums due to some circumstances in my own life (not bad ones, just dumb ones). I’m just getting back into the urban blogging scene again.

 

When the main forumers (myself included) left City-Data, it became motorman’s and Wilson513’s parallel echo chambers so she left too. Since then Wilson has also left... he might have even left before her.

 

City-Data was always a bizarro mix of senior citizens and young progressives. Clashing was inevitable. What’s interesting to see is who’s left and who bailed.

I don't complain(not much if at all). When things get out of hand there are warnings, and people either stop(like they finally did in the racism thread)or it gets locked. The "pruning" that goes on is a good thing too-even when my own stuff gets pruned. It is usually the right thing to do. 

 

*although occasionally it is best to just let the thread run wild-like on Skyscraperpage with the thread that turned into a lively mess about the appropriateness of wearing shorts, open kitchen plans, kitchens needing to be in the windowless basement of the house next door, etc.-that thread was hilarious.

Sarah Perry no longer posts. Wilson left a long time ago. Perry Mason also no longer posts, thankfully. Motorman continues to post any article he can find about Cincinnati. But occasionally there's a legit thread from somebody thinking about moving to Cincy. For the most part it's a pretty calm board. I usually check it once a day.
