The restaurant highlights several other recent additions to one of the region's largest shopping centers, which will also grow with new buildings and community events. Big Chicken, founded by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal, is set to open at 10655 Innovation Drive, located at Austin Landing in Miami Township. It will replace another chicken restaurant — Mike's Nashville Hot — that closed in 2021 after five years in business. The restaurant chain recently signed a lease for the new location, which marks the first in Ohio and the Midwest. Big Chicken is currently located in Glendale, California and Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as arena locations in Seattle, Washington and Elmont, New York. When it opens, the store will create jobs, fill vacant space in a prominent area of the city core and provide a much-needed grocery option for downtown residents and workers. Kathleen Roll, a born-and-raised Daytonian, and her husband Justin Simmons, who first came to the city 15 years ago, are launching Tony & Pete’s at 129 E. Third St. in the Fire Blocks District. An exact opening date has not been set, but the owners are targeting mid- to late-May. Named after their fathers, Tony & Pete’s is billed as a neighborhood market and sandwich shop offering grocery staples and old-school cold cut sandwiches. The 2,100-square-foot establishment will feature a sandwich counter and bar where patrons can order food and drinks, as well as a market offering items such as milk, eggs, cheese and produce. Sheetz is currently aiming to open its first Dayton store in 2024. Each Sheetz location employs approximately 30 individuals. Tipp City Pizza, formerly known as Nate's — A Neighborhood Pizzeria, is slated to open in late summer/early fall at 14 E. Dubbed "Xenia Gateway," this effort has gained momentum in recent months with the signing of new tenants and the start of site development work for the project's second phase. Anchored by an Aldi store that opened in the summer of 2020, the multimillion-dollar development along U.S. 35 (West Main Street) is set to welcome several new tenants in the service, medical and banking industries, Xenia Development Director Steve Brodsky said. Old Scratch Pizza, which first launched in Dayton in 2016 and then expanded to Washington Township in 2019, announced Thursday it will open its latest location at 2450 Dayton Xenia Road in Beavercreek.
