Jollity owners plan new restaurant concept in Dayton

 

The owners of a popular restaurant in downtown Dayton are planning to open another dining concept.

 

The restaurant would add to the growing diverse cuisine available in the city’s core and provide another unique experience to residents and visitors to Dayton.

 

Zackary Weiner and Brendon Miller, both chef/co-owner of Jollity, are scouting locations for what will be a new restaurant called Koji Burger. The concept is a spin-out from Jollity’s ever-popular Koji Burger pop-up events.

 

“We just opened Jollity two years ago and to be able to start working on another project; it’s a privilege and we’re excited,” Weiner said.

 

The owners are working with an undisclosed party to find the forever home for Koji Burger. It will most likely be located somewhere in downtown Dayton. The goal is to open in mid-2024.

Local supermarket to welcome Dayton coffee shop inside new location

 

A family-owned grocery store with more than 70 years of history in the region is set to welcome the addition of a local coffee bar inside its newest and biggest location to date. The partnership comes amid continued for the local coffee shop.

 

Ghostlight Coffee will open a new coffee bar and bagel shop within the new Dot’s Market at Cross Pointe Center in Centerville tomorrow, March 14. With two locations under their belt and a third in the works, the Coffee Bar at Cross Pointe Center will be the first retail outlet for Ghostlight in the south Dayton suburbs.

 

The new coffee bar will feature coffee, tea, espresso drinks, cold brew and pour-over coffee. A new bakery case will feature made-from-scratch pastries, muffins, and the popular hand-pies affectionately known as “GhostTarts.”

Dayton-area restaurant owner wants to be the next big national chain

 

The owner of a popular taco truck in the region is laying the groundwork to make her business the next big chain. The first step of this is moving to a brick-and-mortar location.

 

Dip Tacos Food Truck, based out of Springfield over the last two years, will be relocating to 1532 Mitchell Blvd. in Springfield as early as April. By the time renovations are complete and the doors open in early summer, the food truck will be sold to help cover part of the costs of opening the restaurant.

 

With a brick-and-mortar location, Dip Tacos will be able to offer their full menu — with new additions and expanded hours — year-round.

Centerville franchise acquired, new owners plan to continue operations

 

A café and bakery serving the Dayton area for nearly three decades is under new ownership.

 

Sunbelt Business Advisors announced the sale of My Favorite Muffin, located at 75 East Alex Bell Road in Centerville, to TCT Ventures, LLC of Waynesville, Ohio.

 

My Favorite Muffin, a national fast-casual chain, was founded in 1988 and carries a variety of premium quality breakfast and lunch items, all made on-site daily. The Centerville location launched in 1996, with Rich and Shelly Kate acquiring the franchise in 2008. In this transaction, the Kates have sold the franchise to TCT Ventures, LLC, and owners Ted and Carrie Thompson of Waynesville, Ohio. The transaction is part of a planned transition related to the Kates’ retirement.

Dayton-area Mexican restaurant's second location coming to former mall property

 

A restaurant in the Dayton region is expanding to a second location. The new location will prompt new hires and is part of the revitalization efforts of a local structure.

 

Greenville-based Las Marias Mexican Restaurant has filed a liquor permit for a second location at the Piqua Center, formerly known as the Miami Valley Centre Mall. Las Marias is a family-style restaurant offering an extensive menu of Mexican cuisine, including fajitas, enchiladas, combination plates and a variety of drinks and appetizers.

 

A rep at the Greenville location confirmed the project.

New bakery will continue a legacy in Old North Dayton

 

A bakery coming into the Dayton region is continuing a legacy that spans over a century. The new option will create more jobs in the city.

 

Baker Benji’s Cakes and Desserts will be soon moving from Benjamin Stuckey’s home in Fairborn to a brick-and-mortar location at 700 Troy St. in Old North Dayton. The move and investment was covered by CityWide Development’s First Floor Fund, Stuckey said.

 

Baker Benji’s, which started as a cottage food production operation, has offered vendor services over the years, including vending events through the Ohio Renaissance Festival as the official baker. Last year, Stuckey decided it was time to start looking for an official location.

Dayton historic neighborhood to get new restaurant, salon

 

Plans are underway for a new restaurant and commercial space in a historic neighborhood of Dayton.

 

The new businesses will create jobs and save a flagship building in the district.

 

Rachel Gannon, of Ginger Voodoo Properties LLC, has plans to transform the building at 1501 E. 5th St. in St. Anne’s Hill. The two-story building – complete with a St. Anne’s Hill mural on the side – welcomes visitors as the entryway into the historic district.

 

She will transform the ground level into The Local 937, a deli and carryout. The restaurant will feature sandwiches, charcuterie boxes, beer, wine, candy and basic needs like toilet paper, milk and juice.

Well-known Dayton restaurant embarks on fifth location

 

A well-known locally owned restaurant is expanding to a fifth location. The project will create new dining options in a local community and add 25 new jobs.

 

TJ Chumps, based in Miamisburg, recently filed for a liquor permit at 1222 E. Stroop Road in Kettering. The restaurant will be moving into an existing location and marks an expansion on the horizon for several years now.

 

“Kettering is the most populous suburb of Dayton,” said Jim Dunn, co-owner of TJ Chumps. “We already have four stores in Dayton, and Kettering — we have no presence in Kettering directly, and geographically, the spot that we have picked out is a good location between our Miamisburg and Fairborn stores. It fills a void in the Dayton market.”

New smoothie bowl restaurant coming to region with two locations

 

A national smoothie and smoothie bowl chain will soon come to the Dayton region with two locations. The restaurant will create new healthy dining options in the area and create more jobs.

 

Playa Bowls, a popular national chain superfruit bowl shop, will be coming to the region as early as summer with two locations planned in downtown Dayton and Springboro, respectively. The restaurant, franchised by Joe Hidy and Mario Parisi, is focused on health food options and offers plant-based ingredients for smoothie bowls, smoothies, juices, coffees and cold pressed juices. Parisi had first found Playa Bowls restaurants while vacationing with his family in Florida, and after deciding to bring the restaurant to Dayton, asked Hidy if he wanted to be involved.

 

“While there are a few acai bowl places in the Dayton area, we’ve gone around and tried all of them — not just in Dayton, but in other cities — and the Playa Bowl, in our opinion, is the highest quality one out of all of them,” Hidy said. “It’s going to raise the bar for that type of restaurant.”

In the upcoming weeks, three new options will be added to The Mall at Fairfield Commons, bringing the total number of stores there to more than 130. This includes a new restaurant, according to Dayton 24/7 Now, media partner of the DBJ.

Last but not least, Tokyo Grill & Sushi Buffet is heading to the Fairfield Mall. The Japanese style restaurant will feature raw and pure fresh seafood.

Gourmet cookie shop franchisee plots two new Dayton locations

 

A former Ohio State football player’s success in franchising a gourmet cookie shop is leading to new locations in the region. The new locations combined will create over a hundred new jobs in the region.

 

Crumbl Cookies, which is touted as the nation's fastest-growing gourmet cookie company, will open at Troy Towne Center in Troy by the end of September. The new location will be operated by former OSU wide receiver and Reggie Germany and his wife, Keah. In addition to the Troy location, Germany will be opening another Crumbl Cookie at Waterloo Crossing in Canal Winchester.

New tapas restaurant to open in the Dayton region this week

 

A new restaurant featuring Spanish and Portuguese small plates and wine will be opening in the Dayton region this week. The restaurant will create new dining options among a growing downtown.

 

Pequeños Tapas and Wine Bar, located at 31 Monument Square in Urbana, will open its doors in an official grand opening this Wednesday, April 19, according to a post on the restaurant-bar’s Facebook page.

A local franchisee of a popular sandwich shop is opening another location in the Dayton region. The new restaurant will add 20 more jobs to the region and feature a drive-thru option.

 

Jimmy John’s, a sandwich shop known for its fresh baked bread made daily in-house as well as in-house sliced meats, cheeses and vegetables, will be coming to 3027 Wilmington Pike in Kettering.

 

For franchisee Jerome Hranka, COO of Premium Loaves Inc., he had acquired seven Jimmy John’s stores in the Dayton market in 2022. With plenty of growth opportunities in the region and the fact that Jimmy John’s has done well in the area, Hranka saw that Kettering was both underserved and had an ideal location available for a new store.

Anime-themed restaurant coming to Dayton region this fall

 

Anime fans in the Dayton region have a new dining option to look forward to. The restaurant will bring a variety of food options and entertainment focused around Japanese pop culture.

 

Izakaya, an anime-themed restaurant and bar, will be coming to The Mall at Fairfield Commons on the upper level near Morris Furniture. The restaurant will offer pizza, spirits and Korean corn dogs, and will join the mall’s section of more than 36 locally-owned retail and dining options. A liquor permit was recently filed for the restaurant.

 

Co-owner Adam Smith, who also owns and operates Original 151 and Nani!? at The Mall at Fairfield Commons, wanted to bring back experiences he took from traveling to Japan and introduce them to the Dayton region. Thus, Izakaya was born.

Bakery in Old North Dayton sets opening date

 

A new bakery continuing a century-long legacy in the Dayton region has a set opening date. The grand opening will feature an opportunity for customers to receive free products twice a month throughout the year.

 

Baker Benji’s Cakes and Desserts will officially open its doors on Saturday, May 20 at 8 a.m. The bakery found its home at 700 Troy St., which housed Evans’ Bakery for decades up until the Evans’ closed shop late last year. The location on the corner of Troy Street and Wayne Avenue has been home to a bakery for over a century, starting with the original Kroger Bakery, and Baker Benji’s will continue that legacy by offering both Evans’ Bakery classics and a variety of new treats to customers.

 

On the day of the grand opening, the first 25 people in the door will receive a free donut and cupcake each month for a year. If the weather permits, there will be a food truck, music and street performers.

New Asian fusion restaurant coming to Dayton area

 

A new Asian fusion restaurant known for its bowls is coming to the Dayton region. In addition to creating new dining options, the new restaurant will bring more jobs to the region.

 

BIBIBOP Asian Grill will be coming to Huber Heights, according to a Facebook post made by Broad Reach Retail Partners, LLC. While no opening date has been announced, the restaurant plans to open later this year at 7648 Old Troy Pike.

 

It would mark the third area location for the Columbus-based chain, which has sites near then University of Dayton and another in the Cornerstone development in Centerville.

Popular East Coast convenience chain eyeing another Dayton-area location

 

A popular East Coast convenience and gas chain is eyeing another location in the Dayton region. It comes after the company announced plans to move into Ohio and two other nearby states.

 

Pennsylvania-based Wawa Inc., known for its custom-made hoagies and specialty drinks, is looking to build a new location on 2.2 acres of land at 600 E. Dayton Yellow Springs Road in Fairborn, according to city documents. The current plan calls for the construction of a nearly 6,000-square-foot convenience store with vehicle fuel sales.

 

Wawa, which is applying for a zoning change, asked Fairborn officials to table the review of its application until June.

A popular cafe in the Dayton region is expanding to a second location. The new location will create new jobs and will offer customers in a local municipality more drink options.

 

Cafe 19, a locally owned cafe based out of Englewood, will be expanding to a second location at 7 N. Miami St. in West Milton. While the Englewood location has a kitchen and drive thru, the West Milton location will only be a cafe, but will still offer a variety of drinks as well as a pastry selection from the Englewood location. The West Milton location will continue sourcing products from local vendors, and is looking forward to working with local entrepreneurs.

 

The West Milton location came to be in a perfect storm of circumstances – the Englewood location was experiencing a continuous surge in business, West Milton didn’t have a cafe at the time, and the small-town charm of the community was exactly what owners Dillon Allen, Elizabeth Brunotte, Ginger Gauvey and Johnathan Allen were looking for. The building on Miami Street became available soon after, and the owners negotiated a deal on monthly rent and were signing the lease the next day.

Taste of Belgium has expanded into a new market with the opening of its latest restaurant.

 

Taste of Belgium opened in the Greene Town Center at 10 Greene Blvd. in Beavercreek – a suburb of Dayton – on June 2. It is the Cincinnati-based restaurant chain's ninth location.

 

Owner Jean-Francois Flechet told me he believes the suburban Dayton market is an untapped opportunity for restaurants right now.

A popular Mexican fast-casual chain is targeting the Dayton region with another planned location. If approved, construction would start later this year or next.

 

A plan to build a Chipotle Mexican Grill at 5858 Springboro Pike in Miami Township unanimously cleared the township’s Zoning Commission earlier this week. Before it can move forward, the plans will need final approval from Miami Township’s Board of Trustees, which will consider the proposal on July 5.

Jorge Jimenez always knew he would one day start his own restaurant. The dream is turning into a reality in the Dayton region.

 

Jimenez plans to open Mami Fina's, a Mexican restaurant named after his late grandmother, at 10 N Main St. in Waynesville sometime next week. The site, with roughly 2,000 square feet of dining room space, will also have room for a sports bar and employ up to 10 people, Jimenez said.

Troni Brothers has been open since 2002 in Kettering on Wilmington Pike. Now, the restaurant is planning to open its second location in Xenia at 417 W. 2nd St.

 

The roughly 4,000-square-foot location will employ about 15 to 20 people, according to the owner, David Keen. The new spot used to house Xenia China Inn until the owner passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dayton's third Chipotlane opens in local shopping center this week

 

Chipotle is opening its first location in a regional shopping center later this week, featuring the chain’s new Chipotlane. The opening will bring the region’s location count to a dozen.

 

The Shoppes at Valle Greene, anchored by a Kroger and Menards, will welcome Fairborn’s first Chipotle Mexican Grille at 2010 Commerce Center Blvd. on Wednesday, June 28. The location will be open seven days a week from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.

BIBIBOP, a Korean-inspired restaurant with one location currently open in the Dayton market and more on the way, will open the doors to its Washington Township location on July 13. Traveling and wine have always been two cornerstones of Rhonda and Matt Hiatt's relationship. The local couple will soon share those passions with the Dayton region.

 

Rhonda and Matt Hiatt are planning to open a new restaurant, the Meridien, at 28 W Franklin St. in Centerville, the former location of Sweeney's Seafood Bar & Grill — which closed late last year after nearly 30 years in business. The owners plan to open the 4,000-square-foot space in late September or early October.

 

The spot will not be a full-service restaurant. Instead, the Meridien will feature a rotating menu of small plates, cocktails and wine from different regions around the world — in addition to a few "mainstays," Rhonda Hiatt told the Dayton Business Journal.

A highly-anticipated ice cream parlor in the Miami Valley has announced an opening date. The new spot will expand the product base of an existing business and create more job opportunities in a growing municipality.

 

Bits & Pieces, the spinoff project of This & That’s Candy that will focus on hand-rolled ice cream, is targeting Aug. 2 for an opening date, according to a Facebook post. The ice cream parlor, located at 122 W. High St. in downtown Piqua, will also offer Italian ice, edible cookie dough, deli-style sandwiches, barbecue and shredded chicken sandwiches, and wraps to customers. The parlor will also offer a cooler with bottled Coca Cola products and some varieties of glass bottled sodas that are also available in the candy shop.

 

“I really like the presentation of rolled ice cream,” said Tom Lillicrap, co-owner of This & That’s. “It’s a show, how it’s made and prepared.”

Well-known local eatery TJ Chumps’ will open its fifth location in a Dayton-area suburb next week. It represents the brand’s newest location in almost a decade and transforms a previously closed restaurant in a local shopping center.

Downtown Dayton's newest dining option is open for business. The opening brings an authentic Italian restaurant and jobs to the city's core.

 

Est! Est!! Est!!! unveiled Wednesday its 5,500-square-foot dining space in the historic Dayton Arcade at 45 W. Fourth St. The location is an extension of holding company Mayfair Hospitality Group's flagship restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which has operated since early 2022.

Downtown Dayton cocktail bar to add sushi restaurant

 

Downtown Dayton is about to get a new sushi restaurant. The project is part of a cocktail bar's plans to get more people in the door during the week in a post-Covid world.

 

Tender Mercy, an upscale, underground cocktail bar at 607 E. 3rd St. downtown, is preparing to add a new sushi option, Dōzo, to its space. The restaurant will operate the back of the bar with seating for nearly 40 people, as well as snacks for Tender Mercy guests without dinner reservations, Chris Dimmick, owner of The Idea Collective — which oversees Tender Mercy — told the Dayton Business Journal.

 

Tender Mercy is adding Dōzo, in part, because of the pandemic's effect on downtown, with the emergence of hybrid work leading to fewer people in the city's core. As Covid restrictions faded, Dimmick said, he and his team began to understand that Sueño's "success and allure changed how much time some of our guests spent in Tender Mercy." Sueño is a contemporary Mexican restaurant also run by The Idea Collective in the space above Tender Mercy.

 

"We also understood early on, post-Covid, that without a culinary component at the bar, we were going to hit a ceiling during the week without the workforce back in their downtown offices every day," Dimmick added.

Dayton region set to add this fast-casual Asian restaurant

 

A fast-casual Asian restaurant franchise is coming to the Dayton region. The location, the area's first, plans to open by the end of the year. 

 

Denver-based Teriyaki Madness is coming to Miami Township at 9474 N Springboro Pike. The 1,400-square-foot space will be the franchise's first location in the Dayton region, according to Tracey Herron, senior vice president of sales and leasing for Equity Commercial Real Estate Solutions — who brokered the deal. 

 

Teriyaki Madness specializes in Seattle-style teriyaki, according to its website, and serves made-to-order food with "fresh, natural ingredients," prepared within 5 to 7 minutes. Similar to other fast-casual restaurants, like Chipotle and Bibibop, Teriyaki Madness serves create-your-own bowls.

Popular Linh's Bistro owners to open second location in Sugarcreek Plaza

 

A popular family-owned Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant is about to open its second location in Sugarcreek Plaza in Sugarcreek Township. The new spot will differ from the original.

 

Linh's Bistro — a family-owned Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant located at 5532 Airway Road in Dayton — is preparing to open its second location at 6008 Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Township.

 

The new space, occupying 2,200 square feet in Sugarcreek Plaza, will differ from the original Linh's. Instead of the sit-down restaurant Daytonians have become accustomed to, the Sugarcreek Plaza location will be quick-service, Vu Hoang, Linh's vice president, told the Dayton Business Journal.

Daytonian prepares to open 5th retail location with new downtown café

 

A new café in downtown Dayton looks to satiate the tastebuds of locals looking to grab a quick bite or drink with its grand opening tomorrow morning. The opening represents the owner’s fifth retail location with a unique spin on the regular brand.

 

Ghostlight Coffee is set to open its newest location this week on Thursday, Aug. 31 under a new name, Gather by Ghostlight. The 2,400-square-foot location will operate seven days a week at varying hours: Monday and Tuesday (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), Wednesday and Thursday (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.), Saturday (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and Sunday (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

 

Gather by Ghostlight will represent owner Shane Anderson’s fifth Dayton-area operation. It follows the existing Ghostlight Coffee locations on S. Patterson Boulevard, Wayne Avenue and in Dot’s Supermarket at Cross Pointe in Centerville as well as the 2nd Street Market bakery DOUGH. Anderson hired 15 employees for the new location, bringing his local employment between the five locations to 46.

New smoothie bowl shop to open in Dayton

 

A national smoothie and smoothie bowl chain will open its first Dayton-area location next week. The restaurant is creating new healthy dining options in the region and creating more jobs.

 

Playa Bowls, a popular national chain superfruit bowl shop, will be opening the doors to its location at 1200 Brown St. in Dayton on Sept. 23. The Dayton shop sits just outside the University of Dayton’s campus and marks the third Playa Bowls to open in Ohio.

 

The Dayton shop is owned and operated by franchise owners Mario Parisi and Joe Hidy. With plans to open a second Playa Bowls location later this fall at 734B N. Main St. in Springboro, the business partners saw an opportunity to grow their passion for the nutritious superfruit bowl concept and expand Playa Bowls’ footprint in Ohio.

New breakfast spot opens in Dayton

 

The Ugly Duckling, a collaboration between Blazin’ Dayton and Uncle Boof’s World Famous Pancake Mix, is now open for breakfast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

 

Mason Schindler, owner of Blazin’ Dayton, and Dexter Clay, also known as “Uncle Boof,” who owns Uncle Boof’s World Famous Pancake Mix with Zach Jeckering, were originally planning to use the building at 115 Springfield St. in Dayton as a production space.

 

“Once we got in here and saw how operational it was... the idea (shifted) to open up as a restaurant first ,” Clay said.

Moe’s Southwest Grill to makes its triumphant Dayton return

 

A familiar “welcome to Moe’s” will soon be heard when a Mexican food chain opens its doors again in a Dayton-area suburb later this week. The opening follows previous regional closures more than a decade ago.

 

Moe’s Southwest Grill is set to open its doors again in Centerville at 990 Miamisburg Centerville Road, Suite B, at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6. To celebrate the return, the first 50 customers in line will receive free burritos and bowls once a week for a year.

 

“The wait is over, our Moe's Southwest Grill on Miamisburg Centerville Road opens on October 6," said Jacob Mulvey, owner and operator. “We have been hard at work creating a great spot for the families and folks of Centerville."

Winsupply acquires iconic Dayton landmark, plans to reopen

 

An iconic Dayton restaurant landmark, which closed its doors during the pandemic, is under new ownership. One of the largest construction distributors in the nation and a regional giant recently purchased the location in hopes to see it revitalized and reopened.

 

Moraine-based Winsupply Inc. bought the former site of Golden Nugget Pancake House at 2932 S. Dixie Dr. in Kettering.

 

Founded by Steve and Bessie Thomas in 1962, Golden Nugget faced a pandemic closure. But now, the site seeks to serve guests once again at an undisclosed reopening.

 

"As we welcome new ownership to a location that means more than words can describe to our family, we are comforted knowing we are passing the building over to people who were part of our journey," said a representative of the Thomas and Frangomichalos families. "Though to some it is just a landmark, to us, it is the resting place of our blood, sweat and tears. Decades and generations of our family's best and worst times are within those walls."

New fast-casual chicken restaurant opens in Centerville

 

A new fast-casual restaurant specializing in chicken opened in a Dayton suburb this week. This is the third of 20 restaurants planned by local franchisees.

 

Huey Magoo’s opened the doors to its newest franchise store at 6230 Far Hills Ave. in Centerville today, Oct. 24. The 2,600-square-foot end-cap restaurant features an outdoor patio and was opened by local franchisees Tim and Ronda Hobart, who plan to open more locations in the Dayton and Columbus regions. Currently, there are locations open in Englewood and Marysville. The couple are also multi-unit franchisees of BD’s Mongolian Grill.

 

Huey Magoo’s Centerville will offer dine-in and out, take out and delivery through third-party delivery services Uber Eats and DoorDash.

Penn Station eyes first location for this Dayton-area community

 

A prominent Dayton-area municipality could soon get its first taste of a Milford-based restaurant chain known for its Philly cheesesteak and fresh-cut fries. It comes as the company is in the middle of a massive expansion effort.

 

A new Penn Station East Coast Subs location appears to be coming to Greenville at 1453B Wagner Ave., according to a building permit. The filing for a commercial alteration of an existing space lists "Penn Station" as the business, signaling the space could soon house the restaurant.

 

The permit, currently under review, indicates the space is 2,400 square feet. Construction is estimated to cost roughly half a million dollars.

A full-service bakery offering customer cakes, pastries, cookies and artisan breads is opening second location in the Bellbrook-Centerville area. The recent expansion follows the grand opening of an expanded first location earlier this fall.

 

Sweet Adaline’s Bakery is opening its second location Sweet Adaline’s Bakery Café at 6052 Wilmington Pike at Sugarcreek Plaza in Sugarcreek Township. The store’s grand opening is slated for Friday, Dec. 1.

 

Sweet Adaline’s Cafe serves as a new sister location to Tipp City’s Sweet Adaline’s Bakery, opened in 2020 by owner Adam Berning, a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef and pastry chef. The Tipp City bakery first opened at 29 E. Main St. but moved to a larger location around the corner at 22 N. Second St. in September.
