Quick-serve Mexican restaurant coming to prominent part of the region

A quick-serve Mexican restaurant chain is planning to open a new location in a former Taco Bell that has been vacant since the pandemic. The owner expects the store to be one of his "best-selling" locations.

Victor's Taco Shop is renovating the roughly 2,000-square-foot space at 5837 Far Hills Ave. in Washington Township, with plans to open the location in early 2024. The chain is planning to utilize both the drive-through and dining room; many of the restaurant's locations are drive-through only.

Big Star Chicken president shares big plans for restaurant coming to Dayton region

On a drive through the Dayton region, Dan McGrath knew it would be the perfect place for the first crop of a new fast-casual chicken restaurant.

Big Star Chicken announced last week that 25 Slim Chickens stores will be coming to Ohio and are planned to find homes across the Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati markets. While there isn’t a set number of stores planned for the Dayton region, McGrath is currently working with a broker to scout the right locations for the first crop of Dayton stores. The story behind Three Birds: The next concept following Sueño and Tender Mercy

Carmel’s Southwest Bar and Grill Owner Bob Byers was looking to retire. When he called, Chris Dimmick owner of The Idea Collective – the company behind Dayton's Sueño and Tender Mercy – picked up the phone. Throughout many months of planning, the concept for Three Birds was born.

The driving force behind the Three Birds concept is family-friendly with neighborhood accessibility while maintaining quality of product and hospitality.

“This is cuisine for everyone,” Dimmick said. “Whatever neighborhood you're from, whatever clothes you're wearing, whatever mood you're in. We just want to put really good food on the plate without any pretense and have a lot of fun and create a really comfortable environment that still makes you feel prideful and happy to be there.”

So happy to see the increase in density of businesses on this part of E. 5th.  Now if only there was a way to redevelop the land that the USPS sorting facility is on to better connect St. Anne's Hill to the Oregon District.
