The address in the article is wrong. The Waffle House will be at 9505 Dayton Lebanon Pike which is in the City of Centerville while 9555 Dayton Lebanon Pike is in Warren County.

New bakery to debut in Beavercreek this summer with specialty sweets and custom creations

A local baker is whipping up something new — her first brick-and-mortar bakery.

Anchored Baking Co. will open this summer in Beavercreek at 3979 Indian Ripple Road in between Chicago Gyros & Dogs and Jet's Pizza.

After working as a nurse for over 20 years, local baker Kristie McAllister took a "hard left" into baking.

A regional bakery known for its custom creations is expanding into the heart of downtown. With plans to open a new location inside an historic Dayton facility, the expansion marks a sweet addition to the city's dining landscape.

Luke's Custom Cakes, a Hamilton bakery offering custom cakes and desserts, is expanding with a new retail location in the historic Dayton Arcade. The new bakery will bring Luke's signature treats to downtown, joining other notable eateries within the revitalized landmark.

While Luke's Hamilton bakery serves as the primary production hub for custom cake orders, the new location in the North Arcade concourse will offer an array of grab-and-go treats. Within the 300-square-foot space, customers will find a selection of the bakery's best-selling cupcakes, cookies, brownies, cake slices and predesigned small cakes.

Habibis Restaurant shutters in uptown Centerville, new Filipino eatery set to take its place

A Centerville eatery has officially shuttered its doors. Although the restaurant is no more, a new concept is already announced to take over the uptown space.

Habibis Restaurant has permanently closed its doors, according to a post from the restaurant's social media accounts.

The store — located at 263 N. Main St. in Centerville across from Bill's Donuts — rebranded as Habibis in late 2023 after operating as International Cafe & Delicatessen for a few months.

Local bakery to open first brick-and-mortar storefront in historic Dietz Block Building

A locally-owned bakery will soon reside in one of Dayton's most storied buildings.

Good Hands Bread Co. is opening its first brick-and-mortar location at the historic Dietz Block building near downtown.

Located at 531 Wayne Ave., the Dietz Block building is the site of a major redevelopment effort from local couple Burgess and Jeanine Gow. The duo closed on the building in August 2024 and aims to renovate the site to host future tenants, restaurants and more.

Texas chicken chain eyes first four Dayton locations

A Texas-born chicken chain is preparing to make its mark on the Dayton region with plans to open its first restaurants across the area.

Layne's Chicken Fingers is embarking on an aggressive growth plan throughout the Miami Valley. The chain currently is seeking storefronts to plant its first four Dayton-area restaurants.

The Frisco-based company was founded in 1994 when Mike Layne opened the brand's first restaurant in College Station, Texas.

Fast-food giants Jack in the Box and Del Taco plan Dayton/Ohio expansion

Jack in the Box and Del Taco are planning to open locations in the Dayton area. The sister companies are executing a parallel growth plan in the region and across the state.

With three locations already in suburban areas and demand for more quick service dining options, both brands have targeted growth for other nearby metros including Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland.

For expansion, the brands are seeking franchisees in all cities. Dustin Thompson, director of franchise marketing and development, said franchisees are required to commit to a three-to-five store opening plan.

A growing national coffee chain is moving forward with its introductory store in the Miami Valley.

Oregon-based Dutch Bros will open its first Dayton, and Ohio, store this year.

The region's introductory Dutch Bros will sit at 8080 N. Dixie Drive in Butler Township, joining a bevy of other retailers and restaurants.

Koji Burger to take over Jollity's Fire Blocks space this fall

Following over one year of sharing space in the Fire Blocks District, big changes are on the horizon for two Dayton eateries.

Koji Burger will fully take over the space of Jollity at 127 E Third St. later this fall, announced the owners on social media.

Over a year ago, Jollity owners and chefs Zackary Weiner and Brendon Miller acquired a location on Huffman Avenue with plans to launch Koji Burger in the new space. However, they soon realized due to the high volume of business Koji handles during regular business hours, the Huffman space wouldn't be enough to sustain operations.

Wayne Avenue is quickly becoming the "hip" place to open a new business/restaurant in this part of Dayton. I wonder if there is something they could do to better connect the Oregon District portion of Wayne Ave to the South Park portion which is currently seperated by US 35.

When Sarah Richard opened MADE, a ceramic art studio in Dayton’s St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood, she realized pretty quickly that they would run out of space.

After almost three years at 1619 E. Fifth St., she’s preparing to make a move to 735 Wayne Ave. — a space that’s nearly seven times bigger than her current building.

Bootleg Bagels, a bakery brand based in Yellow Springs, is planning to open a brick-and-mortar spot in Dayton on Wayne Avenue this fall.

It will be located at 735 Wayne Ave. next to MADE Studio & Shop.

“I’ve been looking for a place for a couple years now, and some things just fell through. Some things weren’t a match, and this place really felt good,” said Owner Benjamin Bullock. “Wayne Avenue is really seeming to be on an uptick — especially with restaurants.”

Local bagel brand expands footprint with new location near downtown

A Yellow Springs brand is expanding with a new brick-and-mortar location near downtown Dayton.

Bootleg Bagels will open at 735 Wayne Ave. later this year.

Bootleg Bagels was founded during the Covid-19 pandemic by Ben Bullock, a fine-dining chef for over 20 years.

"I'm very excited to join all the wonderful shops and restaurants up and down Wayne Ave," said the brand in a recent social media post.

The brand is known for its locally-made, fresh baked bagel offerings each day, touting classic bagel flavors along with weekly specialties.
