March 4, 200817 yr I agree. It's already a crowded market. I could see maybe 2 stores in Dayton but not 16 or more like the article mentions.
March 5, 200817 yr It sounds like they're following the Sonic plan of aggressive growth. Except Sonic is fairly unique and not so well known to a lot of people yet. Besides the ubiquitous UDF, there's plenty of ice cream places in the area that do the same thing that Baskin Robbins does, including Baskin Robbins. Lord knows there are plenty of vacant buildings for them to fill, though.
March 5, 200817 yr I'm willing to gamble they will build their own new buildings, like the one they have in Miamisburg that's combined with Dunkin Donuts. Just more future vacant space :-(

May 30, 200817 yr It appears the old Taco Bell/Smokin'/Apple Station location at 3002 Woodman (at Dorothy Lane next to UDF) is occupied. I didn't look closely enough to see if they were open or not, but the new place is called Jimmy's Italian Kitchen. With La Pergola gone, it's good to see another casual Italian in the area. Hooray for competiton.

June 18, 200816 yr Here's a restaurant that my parents seemed to like when they went out with friends. She calls it a "good neighborhood place". It is entirely possible that Carmel's food has gotten better over the past few years, but when I lived in Dayton there was one thing - and one thing only - to go to Carmel's for...their extremely potent frozen margaritas. As for the food, I have never been to another Mexican restaurant where I have seen more people eating hot dogs than Mexican.
June 18, 200816 yr A couple of years ago, the owner of the remaining Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers purchased Carmel's and changed the menu a little bit. I've heard the food there is decent. It's been a few years for me, and the food wasn't too good when I did hang out there. The margaritas were the reason to go, of course. And to watch your softball-playing friend get hit on because they think he plays for the Dragons. I had no idea there was a Texas Steakhouse in Huber Heights. And what used to be at 2600 Colonel Glenn? Wasn't that National City Bank? It is entirely possible that Carmel's food has gotten better over the past few years, but when I lived in Dayton there was one thing - and one thing only - to go to Carmel's for...their extremely potent frozen margaritas. As for the food, I have never been to another Mexican restaurant where I have seen more people eating hot dogs than Mexican.
June 18, 200816 yr As for Carmel's, that's probably why my mother loved it so much. She loves margaritas. I sure hope the Roadhouse isn't going into that space where National City was. There just doesn't seem to be enough parking in that lot. My guess is that it is going in at a site just down the road where there is this large gated off lot under construction. That would put it right across the street from Wright State.
June 19, 200816 yr As for Carmel's, that's probably why my mother loved it so much. She loves margaritas. I sure hope the Roadhouse isn't going into that space where National City was. There just doesn't seem to be enough parking in that lot. My guess is that it is going in at a site just down the road where there is this large gated off lot under construction. That would put it right across the street from Wright State. That does make more semse. I tired to find what was at 2600 Colonel Glenn previosuly but came up with nothing. The address for First Watch is 2614 Col. Glenn, so I went from there. That lot has always been crazy. It certainly was over a decade ago when I was attending WSU, and it still was when I would go to that National City before it moved.
June 19, 200816 yr I did a search and found the address of the bank was indeed 2600. It is a very small lot and I see problems for Bob Evans and other stores close to it.
June 19, 200816 yr I did a search and found the address of the bank was indeed 2600. It is a very small lot and I see problems for Bob Evans and other stores close to it. Indeed. Texas Steakhouse is the type of restaurant that would get very busy and stay busy. The one in Springfield is certainly like that, and it has its own lot. It's too bad the Chi Chi's or the Hop's that was in the area vacated a while back, those would have been much better locations. Parking is the biggest drawback. The restaurant itself should do well, Logan's and Lonestar (or is it Longhorn) are both by the mall and they both seem to always be busy. And a glut of similar chains hasn't hurt the Bechtle/41 area in Springfield. I won't go there, I've eaten at the Springfield location and tend to just try a chain and leave it at that.

June 23, 200816 yr 29!?! :-o Does that type of aggresive jumping into a market ever work? It sure didn't for Quizno's, and I don't think it reached that number. How large is the market actually? Does that include the locations already there before this expansion in Franklin and Hamilton?

August 20, 200816 yr This is where Meercats was, which is where Parnell's was, which is where Jag's was, which is where . . . Belmont area college days memories... Back in prehistory... 1970s... a bar at that location was called "The Lion's Den" and was a UD bar. Around the corner, where Taggart's Pub is, was originally "The Iron Boar", another UD bar. Which became Wiley's Comedy Club in the 80s, until it became Taggart's. And Taggarts' moved across the intersection from Wilmington and Colwick, when new development took it out. Taggart's *there* was called "Bruns Bar". North up the street on Wilmington was "Don Riner's Piano Bar", an old geezer place where a guy played a piano. It was torn down in the 90s. At one time you could literally drink your way across that part of Belmont. :)

October 14, 200816 yr Columbus' food chains are as much representative of Columbus as P&G products are of Cincinnati. Skyline Chili = Cincinnati.
