A shuttered Riverside restaurant space may soon see new life.

 

The former China’s Best restaurant at 5516 Airway Road is being remodeled into a Korean and Japanese restaurant called Songs Sushi, according to Montgomery County building permits.

Eclectic market hopes to revitalize Third Street

East Third Street hasn’t gotten a lot of attention in recent years as Dayton works on becoming more walkable and vibrant, but a group of residents and businesses are trying to change that.

 

Residents in the Huffman and St. Anne’s Hill historic districts, along with The Collaboratory and the owners of several thrift and antique stores on Third Street, have launched the 3rd on Third Eclectic Market to help revitalize the neighborhood.

The founders of a successful locally based regional restaurant chain are looking to hit gold again with a new fast casual chain.

 

Ray Wiley, founder of Kettering-based Hot Head Burritos, has teamed up with several other Hot Head franchisees to create a new fast casual sushi chain called Sumera. The team will open its first location at 4313 Far Hills Ave. in Kettering in the Charlotte Gardens shopping center

Pizza restaurant to hire 15 with move to downtown Springfield

 

A small pizza joint in Springfield is quadrupling its space with a move to downtown, and will soon be in need of more employees.

 

Bada Bing! Pizzeria, currently located at 406 W. Harding Road in Springfield, is building out a kitchen and restaurant at 40 N. Fountain Ave., with hopes of opening by October, said owner Jason Hague.

Hot Head Burritos plans new location

 

A Kettering-based restaurant chain is opening another location in the Dayton region.

 

Hot Head Burritos will open another restaurant in Tipp City this fall. Franchisees Pamela and Jason Sommer plan to open their fifth Hot Head location at 968 W. Main St. in Tipp City in mid-November, Pamela Sommer said.

Downtown Dayton restaurant moving to new location

 

A downtown restaurant is moving to a new space.

 

Agnes All Natural Grill — which we told you closed earlier this month in its space in the basement of the PNC Center at 6 N. Main St., has signed a lease in 111 W. First St., near the corner of First and Main streets.

 

The new location, 111 W. First St., formerly housed Arcade Seafoods, which closed earlier this year.

^This I'm excited to see. The Arcade Seafoods space is a great spot. And I never got a chance to try out Agnes All-Natural grill before (at either of its two past locations), so I'm looking forward to making it over to this space once it's done.

 

Also - note on Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers - the new spot is a significant improvement over their old place. It's nice and clean, and it looks good. I can imagine there will be a lot of foot traffic going there.

New Asian restaurant concept to open on Brown Street

A new fast-casual Asian restaurant will join the restaurant scene on Brown Street near the University of Dayton.

 

Ginger & Spice will open at 1105 Brown St., Dayton, where Planet Smoothie recently closed. Ginger & Spice will serve a variety of freshly-prepared Asian dishes including Pho noodles and a specialty ginger and spice chicken dish, said Simon Yao, a spokesman for the restaurant.

Fish restaurant to move to North Dayton

 

A West Dayton restaurant is moving to North Dayton.

 

Quincy’s Original Fish House announced on its Web site Monday it will move to 865 N. Main St. and reopen Dec. 1. It has closed at its location at 3907 W. Third St.

Restaurant chain scopes out locations in Dayton region

 

A popular breakfast chain is looking to open a new restaurant in the Dayton market.

 

IHOP is scoping out locations around Dayton, company spokesman Craig Hoffman confirmed to me Tuesday. Hoffman said he couldn't say how many locations the chain is considering or what sites, but he said the goal is to open before the spring of 2015.

Steakhouse scopes out new location in Beavercreek

 

The polished-casual steakhouse opening at Austin Landing next week is scouting the Dayton region for a second location.

 

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, a classic American restaurant that started in Charlotte, N.C., is interested in the demographics of the Dayton region, especially the Fairfield Road area of Beavercreek, said Stephen Loftis, vice president of marketing for the chain.

Mall at Fairfield Commons could get 5 new restaurants

 

The Mall at Fairfield Commons is preparing to demolish one of its former anchor stores to make way for a new outdoor restaurant area.

 

Danis Building Construction will soon begin demolition of the Elder Beerman building that was vacated earlier this year when the department store consolidated into one space in the mall. The building had 130,000 square feet on two floors, said Bruce Goldsberry, general manager of the mall.

Fricker’s to open new location in Miamisburg

 

Fricker's restaurant chain is planning its first Miamisburg location.

 

The Dayton-based chain has submitted plans to the city of Miamisburg to renovate the former Lone Star Steakhouse at 251 Springboro Pike into a new Fricker's location, said Jo Scott, city planner. Scott said the building is about 5,000 square feet.

McAlister's Deli plans Beavercreek opening

 

McAlister's Deli will open its first Beavercreek location on Monday, Nov. 17.

 

The new restaurant, to be located at 3310 Pentagon Blvd Unit B, is owned by Mac Foods franchise group, which also plans to open a second location on Miller Lane in early 2015.

Cold Stone Creamery is relocating one of its area stores to Austin Landing.

 

Local franchisees for Cold Stone will move their Springboro store to the new mixed-use development in 2015 after 12 years in Springboro, said owner Scott Hindenlang, who is also an area developer for Coldstone.

I saw they're opening another Donut Palace in the strip mall on Salem that is in front of Loew's.  Does anyone know if the location on James H. Mcgee does more than donuts. coffee and ice cream? I only drove by it but I did see a sign that said chitterlings were offered. I couldn't tell if that was Donut Palace or it was something the Rut's carryout was doing.

God, I haven't been to Donut Palace in a decade, at least.

Two restaurants submit plans for The Mall at Fairfield Commons

 

Two national chain restaurants are planning locations in the new restaurant area being developed at The Mall at Fairfield Commons.

 

BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse has submitted plans for a 7,200-square-foot restaurant to be built in place of the former Elder Beerman department store that is being demolished at the mall, according to the plans. The Huntington Beach, Calif.,-based restaurant is one of up to five new restaurants that could be built at the mall.

Milano’s confirms fifth location is in the works

 

One of Dayton's top pizza chains has confirmed that it is planning a fifth location in Centerville.

 

Milano's Atlantic City Submarines, which is known for its Dayton-style pizza and subs, has reached a preliminary agreement with Oberer Companies to build a new restaurant at the Cornerstone of Centerville development, said owner John Slaughenhaupt.

A Dayton restaurateur plans to transform an old restaurant into new concept in Riverside.

Front Row Bar and Grille has applied to remodel the former Pepito's at 2412 Catalpa Drive in Dayton, according to city building permits. The restaurant also is waiting for a liquor license from the state.

Bagger Dave's is pretty good. The ones I've been to have full bars, which is something Smashburger and Five Guys do not have.

The city of Beavercreek has approved plans for the Dayton region's first IHOP in decades.

 

The planning commission approved plans for a 5,000-square-foot IHOP restaurant at the corner of Commons Boulevard and North Fairfield Road.

New Irish pub to open in Centerville

 

The owners of Murphy’s Irish Pub and Grille in Bellbrook are opening a second bar and restaurant called Paddy’s Irish Pub in Centerville.

 

Scott and Candy Anderson are opening the new pub on March 1 in the former Tavern on Main, 953 S. Main St., Centerville, which closed on Sunday. The space previously housed a Beef O’Brady’s pub.

I saw that Ha Ha pizza will be opening a Xenia location this month. It's located across from the Greene County Courthouse on Main St.

A Japanese restaurant is coming to the Dayton Mall area in a location that has seen high turnover recently.

 

Osaka Sushi & Hibachi Buffet has signed a 10-year lease for the former Max & Erma’s restaurant at 8901 Kingsridge Drive. That site had a brief stint as a restaurant called Hazel Grille & Tavern, but it closed last year.

A home-based baker in Dayton is ready to take her business to the next level in downtown Dayton and fill a hole in the local dining scene.

 

Twist Cupcakery has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $6,000 to open a bakery in downtown Dayton. Owner and baker Alexandra "Kate" Rivers said she is in negotiation to lease a retail space in the heart of downtown, and will open whether or not the campaign is successful. Rivers has been baking and selling out of her home since 2012, and has been asked countless times where her bakery is located.

A new-to-Dayton restaurant is headed for the hottest retail development in the area.

 

Cheddar's Casual Cafe is under contract for a new restaurant at the Cornerstone of Centerville development, said Danielle Kuehnle, sales and leasing agent for Oberer Realty Services. The company will submit plans with the city in the next week, she said.

Dublin Pub could open in new building at Austin Landing with two other restaurants

 

RG Properties is planning another large retail building with at least two more restaurants at Austin Landing.

 

The developer for the 142-acre mixed-use project has tentative plans for a 17,700-square-foot building that would finish out the park area of the development, if it can get more restaurant tenants, said spokeswoman Kayla Long.

Upscale Japanese restaurant to open in region

 

Three restaurant veterans are planning a new Japanese restaurant to open in Kettering.

 

Raymond Chow, an accountant in Tipp City, got connected to Tim He, owner of a small Japanese restaurant in Troy when He came to him to do his taxes. They discussed the need for an upscale Japanese restaurant that reflects modern Japanese cuisine in the Dayton region. Then they got connected to Jerry Liu, a chef in an Asian fusion restaurant in New York City, and the three partners decided to open a restaurant.

Downtown Dayton's first frozen treat scoop shop sets opening date

 

Downtown Dayton is about to get its first frozen treat scoop shop when the Fronana Creamery opens.

 

The frozen banana dessert shop will open July 19 with a block party in front of its store at 27 W. 1st St.
