Downtown Dayton to get new restaurant

The owners of the Olive Mediterranean Grill at 6129 N. Dixie Drive in Dayton have signed a lease for about 5,000 square feet of space located on the ground floor of the building at the southeastern corner of West Third and Ludlow streets.

Glad to see more places starting to open west of Main. The western half of downtown is still really lagging behind Webster Station and Ballpark Village/Water Street.

Taco Bell testing a French Toast Chalupa with eggs and bacon in Dayton

Fresh off its success with Taco Fries, Taco Bell is testing a handful of new products — including a French Toast Chalupa for its breakfast menu. With 53 million orders sold, Taco Fries surpassed Doritos Locos Tacos at the most popular new menu item at Taco Bell, which is based in Irving, Calif., and is a division of Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM).

And Taco Bell is at it again.

This week, the chain added the French Toast Chalupa to its mix of new items. Nation's Restaurant News reported on Wednesday the fast-food chain is testing the French Toast Chalupa at restaurants in Dayton for $2.49. The Dayton region has long been a popular test market for restaurants, as the demographics are similar to the U.S. as a whole.

I want the Taqueria Mixteca food truck back. Other than that, I'm good on Mexican food in Dayton.

Hell, I want Taqueria Tres Hermanos, Taquiera La Lomita, La Michoacana, Victor’s, and a Las Penas food truck near me but that ain't gonna happen!  So much good Mexican around here...

...and just an FYI, I've never been to an Elsa's, El Toro, or a Rancho Grande...but I don't trust them when Dayton has a billion actual Mexican restaurants.

Taqueria La Lomita? I've been to the others, but where is this one?

Have you tried La Raza?

La Lomita is on Linden (side of building in food truck):

I haven't tried La Raza.  Is that the one in West Carrollton?  I've heard good things if that's the one.

Ah. I have driven by La Lomita, at least.

That's the one, right where so many places have unfortunately failed on Imperial off of 725. They're so close to Las Penas, but there's plenty of business to go around, I would think.

Miamisburg community provides hub for 'approachable' fine dining

thumbnailhiring*750xx841-473-0-53.jpg

For one local chef, Miamisburg is the perfect place to open a restaurant.

Maria Walusis is the owner of Watermark, an "approachable" fine dining restaurant in downtown Miamisburg that specializes in new American cuisine. Located at 20 S. First Street, Watermark opened last fall after Walusis decided to relocate and rename her Nibbles restaurant, which was located just a few buildings away from Watermark.

Nibbles still operates, but as a catering business. Walusis also expanded the menu options for Watermark and added an expanded bar managed by her husband Eric Walusis.

Taste of the World is an amazing (and secluded) Chinese restaurant

When Fuyao North America opened its massive auto glass plant in the former General Motors plant in Moraine, it represented the largest U.S. investment for a Chinese company. Next to the manufacturing facility sits a restaurant, Taste of the World, which brought a chef from the same province in China as Fuyao chairman Cho Tak Wong. Here’s what I found.

Atmosphere: This place is impressive, with unique woodworking and large windows. The tables and booths are both sophisticated and comfortable, while light instrumental music fills the air. The place offers up Chinese culture as little English is spoken and forks must be requested as chopsticks are the default eating utensil.
