^ I still can't get anybody to believe there is a place with this name.

Does anyone know if the following restaurants are still in business?

Larch Tree restaurant at the Larch Tree golf course in Trotwood.

Huffie's Bar-B-Que-Place looks closed.

Rut's-Looks like it's being remodelled. They were working on the exterior Saturday.

Chris's Soul Food-I don't think I've ever seen them open. Or, at least, where it appeared they were.

Sam's Eatery-on Broadway and Miami Chapel-Can't really tell after a drive by.

R & B Grill-On Gettysburg. Place seemed locked up Saturday afternoon. As an aside, does J & J Fish plan on buying out everyone? Can't wait for Hook's to finish their remodeling.

I believe Huffie's moved to Gettysburg.  Larch Tree is closed.  Chris's seemed closed everytime I drive by it.

Personally, I like Shield's on Germantown.

Thanks, ColDay Man.

Shield's is another place that doesn't seem to be open whenever I have driven by, which included Saturday. Are they still in the same location?

Last I checked they were.  I haven't been there in over two months.  I hope they haven't closed!!!

J. Gumbos to enter Dayton restaurant scene

WEB-JGumbo%20storefront*280.jpg?v=1

A Louisiana native is bringing a taste of the south to Dayton.

Billy Fox, owner of J. Gumbo's a regional casual cajun food chain, will open his first Dayton store by mid-November. The 1,650-square-foot restaurant will be on Brown Street near the University of Dayton campus in the former Boston Stoker Night & Day Cafe location, which closed this fall.

“Our best stores have been close to campus areas,” Fox said.

Jet’s Pizza starts local expansion

Jet's Pizza is rocketing into new areas of the Dayton market.  Pete Marrocco, the Dayton franchisee of the Sterling Heights, Mich.-based pizza chain, plans to open two additional restaurants in the area within the next year.

Marrocco in January will open a 1,400-square-foot pizza shop — his second Dayton location — in Gemini Center in Beavercreek. He also intends to open a restaurant in the southern Dayton market, likely Springboro, by the end of 2012, although he has yet to choose a location.

Tik's Thai Grille offers good food and serenity

WEB-TIK's%20Thai*280.jpg?v=1

The Dayton restaurant scene has been diversifying, most notably in the Thai food arena.

Looking back many years, I don’t recall any Thai restaurants in Dayton, but that’s not the case today. Following the success of Thai Nine in the Oregon District and others, the area now has a growing selection of Thai restaurants. The latest such eatery is Tik’s Thai Grille, which opened last month in Bellbrook. Here’s what I found:

Atmosphere: Serene is the word that ran through my mind while situated in Tik’s dining room.

Marion’s Piazza keeps rolling on

WEB-MarionsPiazza11041108*280.jpg?v=1

Long before speciality pizzas, deep dish crust or delivery service came to Dayton pizzerias, Marion’s Piazza was serving thin pizza squares to the Miami Valley. Now, 46 years later, the Dayton-based chain is a little larger, but the product remains the same.

“We can’t feed the world,” said Roger Glass, president of Marion’s. “We just try to do what we do best.”

Since Glass’s father, Marion, opened the first restaurant on North Dixie Drive in 1965, the chain expanded to include an additional six sites. After 20 years of maintaining those locations, Marion’s is on course to open another two ...

New Restaurant in Harveysburg (!) - "Papis by the Lake"

http://papisbythelake.yolasite.com/

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Papis-by-the-Lake/155302647880516?sk=info

I was completely blindsided by this thread on Chow.com today (seeing that I consider everything along OH 73 from Springboro to Wilmington my home turf.)

The exclamation above is because Harveysburg has had absolutely nothing in terms of commerce except a shed dealer and an obnoxious speed trap along OH 73 for decades. Harveysburg is otherwise a corpse, not even walking dead.

Anyone here try this place yet? My batting record with new independent restaurants around here has been pretty disappointing, no matter how glowing the reviews are.

(It was a toss-up whether to place this in the Cincinnati or Dayton perma-thread. It's closer to Dayton so this seems right.)

I didnt realize it driving by there so often (yes the speed trap is infamous tho I was not a vicitim of it)...that H-burg is right on Ceasars Creek Lake.  Seems like this place makes use of that?

^ If you pull up a map on Google you can see how the back side of the village backs up to the lake. Caesars Creek Lake took out one small village when it was built (New Burlington) and it looks like Harveysburg was pretty close to being wiped out by construction too.

This restaurant is allegedly in an old gymnasium on one of the streets that dead ends in the water. The way most school gyms were built years ago they had no windows for views, so I suspect that it's like eating in any old brick building.

No idea what the setting is actually like. We may have to try it this weekend.

Edit: I found this old thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,19444.msg404544.html#msg404544

I suspect the place is in the building in photos #5 and #6.

Several bright, new Dayton restaurants of 2011

The restaurant is a continuation of Jimmie’s Cornerstone Bar and Grill, which moved into this new location after selling its former space across the street. Here’s what I found:

Ive been to the Springboro location.  If this is the same one.  They are a bit too heavy for me, but I can see it appealing to some.
