JUST IN: New restaurant moving in to the former Arby’s on Brown Street will be 1st of its kind

 

The new restaurant under development in the former Arby’s space at 1200 Brown St. adjacent to the University of Dayton will be operated by the franchisees for Dayton-area Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken restaurants, but it will be a new concept that will differ from the local chicken chain’s existing locations, one of the franchise owners told this news outlet today.

The owners of Watermark restaurant in Miamisburg hope to open a new establishment in The Elks Building, which is located in the Fire Blocks District and adjacent to The Century Bar in downtown Dayton.

 

Maria Walusis, chef-owner of Watermark restaurant and Nibbles Catering in Miamisburg, along with her husband Eric Walusis, are in discussions with developer The Windsor Companies to open a new eatery in the Fire Blocks District.

Taco and beer joint to open first Dayton location

Local Cantina, a Columbus-based restaurant and bar, has chosen Dayton for its first location outside central Ohio.

 

The business, centered on low-cost tacos, craft beer and cocktails, is set to open later this year in the Water Street District. With nearly 4,500 square feet of indoor and patio space, Local Cantina will occupy the entire ground floor in the Centerfield Flats building — a new apartment complex near Fifth Third Field.

 

Local Cantina has partnered with Crawford Hoying, a Columbus-area developer that has been working with Dayton's Woodard Development on the Centerfield Flats and Water Street projects.

 

“Dayton has undergone a recent transformation with booming development,” said George Tanchevski, owner of Local Cantina. “Crawford Hoying has been a trusted partner of ours for several years and being so close to the locally loved Dragons stadium inspired us to choose this location.”

Restaurant and winery chain to open Centerville location this summer

A full-service restaurant and winery will soon open in the Cornerstone of Centerville development, creating scores of new jobs.

 

Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant recently purchased acreage within the development from Miamisburg-based developer Oberer Companies for $2.5 million, according to Greene County property records.

 

The Orland Park, Illinois-based chain plans to open its second Dayton-area location in the mixed-use center late this summer. Cooper's Hawk will employ 180 people at its the location, which will include a restaurant, onsite winery, tasting room, and artisanal retail market.

A popular Dayton-area Mexican restaurant chain will soon open a new location in Beavercreek.

 

El Toro Mexican Bar & Grill recently applied for a liquor permit at the former Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant space at 2420 N. Fairfield Road, according to records from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control.

 

El Toro District Manager Enrique Alvarez said the owners hope to have the new location open within the next few months, pending approval of the liquor license and other necessary inspections. The 8,000-square-foot restaurant sits near The Mall at Fairfield Commons, and Alvarez said the location will likely employ about 35 people.

The owners of a popular Dayton-area sushi restaurant will soon open a new eatery in Beavercreek.

 

Seafood restaurant Club Oceano is expected to open at the Greene Town Center in early June, according to a release. Club Oceano will be operated by Sam Zheng and Raymond Chow, the owners of Sky Asian Cuisine in Kettering, along with Brian Andzik.

 

The project will create new jobs and add more competition to Dayton's bustling restaurant scene.

An Indianapolis-based restaurant chain's plans to open its first Dayton-area location are moving forward.

 

Stacked Pickle recently applied for a liquor permit for its future address at 103 North Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, according to records from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. The sports-themed restaurant and bar chain is owned by Gary Brackett, a retired Indianapolis Colts linebacker.

 

The Dayton Business Journal first reported Stacked Pickle plans to open its Miamisburg restaurant in May. The building is the former site of Roosters, which relocated to 9400 Springboro Pike in Miami Township last year.

Old Scratch Pizza recently applied for a liquor permit for its future location at 440 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Township, according to records from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. The building was formerly occupied by Centerville Home Fireplace & Patio, which closed permanently earlier this year.

The owners of two popular Dayton-area restaurants are eyeing a new location.

 

Meadowlark Enterprises Inc. recently filed for a liquor permit at 720 N. Main St. in Springboro, according to records from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. Under Meadowlark Enterprises, chefs Elizabeth Wiley, Liz Valenti, and Dave Rawson own and operate the Meadowlark Restaurant in Centerville and Wheat Penny Oven & Bar in Dayton's Oregon District.

 

The space at 720 N. Main St. is part of the Marketplace at Settlers Walk shopping center, which also houses Dorothy Lane Market's Springboro store, Bigger Road Veterinary Clinic, and Doubleday's Grill & Tavern.

An Oregon District restaurant that reopened last fall after a devastating fire will soon open a newly renovated patio.

 

Salar Restaurant and Lounge, located at 400 E. Fifth St. in Dayton, will open its new back patio on April 13, and will also begin serving its new spring food and wine menus. The new patio and Salar's covered front patio offer over 50 outdoor seats for guests, according to a news release.

The restaurant will be operated by Sam Zheng and Raymond Chow, the owners of Sky Asian Cuisine on Wilmington Pike in Kettering, along with Brian Andzik.

 

Club Oceano is expected to open in early June. The owners said the restaurant will offer a wide variety of seafood dishes, with influences from Asian, Cajun, and Mediterranean cuisines. Club Oceano's menu will include dishes such as seared ahi tuna, Cajun seafood boil, lobster bisque, and seafood pastas.

Dayton-area pizza chain coming to Rose Music Center

 

A Dayton-area restaurant chain will soon begin serving its pizzas at a popular local music venue.

 

Kettering-based Rapid Fired Pizza will begin selling special 8-inch versions of its pepperoni, sausage, and cheese pizzas at concession stands at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights later this month. The pizzas will be available at every concert this season, starting with the Whitesnake concert on April 29, according to a news release.

Fine dining restaurant coming to downtown Springfield

 

A new fine dining restaurant will soon open in Clark County.

 

Stella Bleu Bistro, located at 20 N. Fountain Ave. in downtown Springfield, is expected to open by the end of May. The restaurant will have around 2,700 square feet of indoor dining space, along with a spacious outdoor patio, said Executive Chef Darin Mitchell.

 

The project will bring another dining option to the region, as well as create new jobs.

 

Mitchell said Stella Bleu will offer a wide variety of cuisine, including Italian, French, South American, and Asian dishes. The menu will also likely include seasonal items once or twice a year.

Steakhouse chain opens first Dayton-area location

A Michigan-based steakhouse chain specializing in "volcanic stone cooking" opened its first Dayton-area location on May 20.

 

Black Rock Bar & Grill opens today at 2745 Fairfield Commons Blvd. in Beavercreek, the former site of Don Pablo's, a Mexican restaurant that closed permanently in 2016. Black Rock's new 8,000-square-foot restaurant near The Mall at Fairfield Commons offers seating for nearly 300 people, and is the second Ohio location for the chain, according to a news release.

 

The arrival of Black Rock brings a new concept and jobs to Beavercreek, and also adds more restaurant competition to an already bustling restaurant scene. Restaurants added to the Fairfield Commons area so far this year include Giordano's, Jason's Deli, Another Broken Egg Cafe, Rusty Taco and Flyby BBQ.

A local coffee shop chain will soon open a new location in downtown Dayton.

 

Winans Chocolates & Coffees recently filed for a liquor permit at 221 N. Patterson Blvd., according to records from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. Winans franchise owner Ben Czajka said the new shop will be located on the first floor of the CareSource building at 220 E. Monument Ave.

 

The storefront for Winans' new shop will face Fifth Third Field, Czajka said, and the 1,600-square-foot location will likely employ between six and 10 people. Czajka said the Piqua-based company hopes to have the new location open late this fall.

Cajun seafood restaurant plans first Dayton location

A Cajun seafood restaurant chain has chosen Dayton as the site of its first Ohio location.

 

Hook & Real Cajun Seafood recently filed for a building permit for the former Sears Auto Center at the Dayton Mall in Miami Township, according to Montgomery County records. The new restaurant would share the space at 2564 Miamisburg-Centerville Road with Outback Steakhouse, which opened last year.

 

Headquartered in Flushing, New York, Hook & Reel's menu includes a variety of seafood and shellfish dishes, as well as appetizers, po' boy sandwiches, and salads. Hook & Reel also offers a drink menu with cocktails, wines, and beers.

More restaurants move to downtown as demand for amenities increases

A number of new restaurants are poised to make their downtown Dayton debut in 2019, including an upscale Mexican eatery, a cocktail bar, and a contemporary American restaurant.

 

The Fire Blocks District, currently being redeveloped by The Windsor Companies out of Columbus, will welcome a new restaurant owned by Maria and Eric Walusis, who own and operate Watermark and Nibbles Catering in Miamisburg. The Walusises said the restaurant has yet to be named, but is expected to open by the end of the year.

Also coming to downtown are two new establishments in the Avant-Garde Building at 607 E. Third St. Sueño, an upscale restaurant specializing in Mexican food, and Tender Mercy, a cocktail bar, are planned for the historic property. Dayton-based Woodard Development is overseeing redevelopment of the building, a mixed-use facility with both restaurant and office spaces. Sueño is expected to open this fall, while Tender Mercy is slated for a late summer opening.

 

Another Woodard Development project, the Centerfield Flats, will welcome Local Cantina, a taco shop offering craft beers and cocktails. Local Cantina will occupy a 4,500-square-foot space in the Centerfield Flats building, located near Fifth Third Field in the Water Street District. Local Cantina is expected to open this fall.

A popular Dayton coffee shop will soon open a second location.

 

Ghostlight Coffee will open a new location at 800 S. Patterson Blvd. in Dayton this fall, according to a news release. Dayton-based Woodard Development will oversee construction of the new location, which sits in close proximity to Old Scratch Pizza and Rinse Cycle Dayton.

 

Ghostlight's new shop will offer a diverse menu, including breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, tartines, and salads inspired by international cuisines. Ghostlight founder and owner Shane Anderson said architect Matt Sauer and interior design consultant Ray Zupp will design the modern and open space, which will feature large communal tables, cafe tables, and banquettes.

Two locally-owned restaurants will soon open second locations.

 

A spokesperson from The Mall at Fairfield Commons confirmed Deg's Flame Grilled Chicken and Agnes All Natural Grill will both open locations at the Beavercreek mall's food court. Deg's will move into a space formerly occupied by Gyro King, and Agnes will move into a former Subway location.

 

The arrivals of Deg's Flame Grilled Chicken and Agnes All Natural Grill will likely lead to new hires and add to a busy restaurant scene at The Mall at Fairfield Commons and its surrounding area. Black Rock Bar & Grill, Another Broken Egg Cafe, Flyby BBQ and Giordano's have all opened locations near the mall within the last six months. El Toro Mexican Bar & Grill also is planning a new location near the mall at the former Abuelo's at 2420 N. Fairfield Road.
