Historic eatery near Dayton to reopen under new ownership

screen-shot-2019-12-26-at-52232-pm*750xx

An ownership group plans to breathe new life — including dozens of new jobs — into a historic eatery in Warren County that closed late last year.

Renovations are nearly complete at 5527 Oregonia Road in Oregonia — the former site of the Little River Cafe on the banks of the Little Miami River. The new business, Little River Bar and Grill, is expected to open by January 23, said Crystal Stewart, one of three owners in the family-owned venture.

“To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

LaRosa's is God-awful.  No one will miss it.

A quick-service eatery with locally sourced products will become the latest tenant in a local co-working and community hub.

Fresh Abilities, a partner of nonprofit group The Abilities Connection (TAC), is expected to open in late February in the new COhatch market in downtown Springfield. The new restaurant will join other food tenants in the market, including Crust & Company, The Painted Pepper and Iron Works.

Fresh Abilities will offer healthy food options for the community through locally-sourced produce grown and harvested at TAC’s hydroponic greenhouse. The eatery will specialize in salads, soups and smoothies, and has partnered with Porttion — a food concept that started in Worthington.

A popular aviation-themed local eatery that closed its Beavercreek location in late December will soon reopen in downtown Dayton.

Flyboy's Deli has signed a lease agreement with CareSource to occupy space at CareSource's Ballpark Village building at 230 E. Monument Ave. in downtown Dayton. The deli will become the second eatery at the site following the launch of Winans Chocolates & Coffee, which opened Jan. 17.

“We could have added more office space in that area but we wanted to do something more,” said David Clapper, director of facilities management at CareSource. “We decided to add amenities that improve the experience of the people who live, work and play in the downtown area including our employees.”

New Chipotle in the works at Middletown mall

One of the nation's most popular fast-casual chains will soon make its debut in a Greater Dayton suburb.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, (NYSE:CMG), a California-based restaurant chain serving up tacos and Mission-style burritos, plans to open a new location in an outlot at the Towne Mall in Middletown. It will be Chipotle's first location in the city.

The company filed a liquor permit Monday in connection with the project, which has been in the works for more than a year. Byblos Development Ohio, the Florida-based developer who owns the mall, submitted preliminary site plans to build the 2,400-square-foot restaurant to the Middletown Planning Commission in January 2019.

Part of Xenia's expanding small business scene, one local entrepreneur has built her rapidly-growing coffee shops with a community focus.

Cynthia "Cymp" Stemple launched the Coffee Hub in downtown Xenia in 2017. The Coffee Hub serves specialty espresso, drinks, coldbrew, drip coffee, homemade chai, teas, frappes, donuts, gluten free baked goods and more. Since then, she's expanded to open two additional coffee shop locations — one located at 3375 Dayton Xenia Road in Beavercreek and another in Dayton Metro Library's main library campus.

Back Home Tavern & Table is a welcomed new addition to the Brown Street area near the University of Dayton. It fills the space left behind by Romer's Bar & Grill, and before that Bargos Grill & Tap. The restaurant boasts scratch-made food and bar bites inspired by the restaurants and recipes of Idaho - think good fries and comfort food. Here’s what I found there on a rainy afternoon...
