The project sounds great but given the suspected links between air quality and birth outcomes, there is something kind of grim about a facility like this opening onto a traffic sewer like Chester.

Buried at the end of this article, M7 is moving it's offices from Akron to the Hough neighborhood across from league park with plans to move in some time in 2025,

Meanwhile, M7 is itself still working on its move to Cleveland, where it spent $500,000 acquiring land in the Hough Neighborhood, next to Cleveland’s historic League Park, to build a $10 million headquarters.

The MLK plaza redevelopment project at Wade and Crawford received approval for its zoning change at todays CPC meeting.

That's a nice looking site plan.  Good to see the redevelopment moving further into Hough.

Ya I really like the site plan as well, can't remember seeing it before. 4 story frontage along both Wade and Crawford is great to see. It'll significantly improve one of the primary access points to Hough.

Cleveland’s MLK Plaza redevelopment plans revealed
By Ken Prendergast / February 6, 2024

During a rezoning hearing for the redevelopment of Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza, 9300 Wade Park Ave. in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood, the developer revealed her plans for the site. Those plans show the plaza would be demolished for a sizable, mixed-use development that could provide 142 residential units, both multi-family and single family, plus at least 15 leasable spaces for commercial tenants.

New Hough housing: 40 lease-to-own homes to be built with $14.3M investment

Published: Feb. 08, 2024, 5:12 p.m.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- New lease-to-own single-family homes will be coming to Hough by the end of the year.

The $14.3 million Henrietta Homes project is being spearheaded by the Famicos Foundation, a nonprofit development organization that serves several East Side neighborhoods like Hough.

The project, which was named for Famicos founder Henrietta Gorris, will create 40 single-family three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes for low-to-moderate income families scattered between East 65th and East 71 streets, as well as Wade Park and Lexington avenues.

The MLK Plaza project looks great with a good site layout. This place currently looks straight out of some dystopian sci-fi film.

Hopefully this bucks the trend of so many East Side projects and actually breaks ground.

Fairfax, Glenville, Hough developments unveiled
By Ken Prendergast / February 27, 2024

The economic development boom in Cleveland’s University Circle continues to be felt in the neighborhoods surrounding this epicenter of the local eds-and-meds jobs sector. Four new apartment development plans were revealed this week as they go on the design review docket at the City Planning Commission. Combined, all four projects could add more than 150 workforce housing units with many more in later phases.

The Anchor 66 project is s a nice looking design. Will the balconies be functional or are they more superficial?

This kind of development, while not sexy, is necessary to rebuild the neighborhood after decades of abandonment. Add the fact that these units are not luxury housing is also a plus.

Little by little.

Love the arches and the walk up steps, like an old brownstone. A nice ode to the old park. Even the flags. This will be a great addition to that area.

Huge fan of the design. I would like to see what the Glenville design looks like in detail but I do like the idea of those being brick to match the surrounding area and being smaller in scale to add a natural density.

I'm confused because they also have a very generic looking building in their presentation. I'm hoping that the artistic screening that they propose in the image above is what they go with.

Hough health center ready for $19.5M rebuild
By Ken Prendergast / March 5, 2024

On May 19, 2021, shortly after the Northeast Ohio Neighborhood Health Services Inc.’s (NEON) Hough Health Center, 8300 Hough Ave., closed for the night and employees went home, an apparent electrical fire sparked. The resulting flames spread throughout the building, causing millions of dollars in damage.

I am losing track of all the spillover development in Hough.

What are these specific new construction projects right outside University Circle?

It seems like a lot of projects throughout the city fully approved a year ago or even longer have gone crickets as far as actually breaking ground.  I would imagine the reasons for this are unique to each project but I also wonder if they get city approval without having financing in place and things then go south.  Might also be that they are having trouble finding subs and the like to start.

They have applied for a construction permit but the city has found some things in their detailed designs that aren't up to code, so they're working through it.

Cleveland-area affordable housing wins financing
By Ken Prendergast / May 20, 2024

While only one proposed affordable housing development in Cuyahoga County was awarded the coveted 9 percent Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) from the state, four others in the county got conditional approval, putting them in a good position to get financing in the near future. All five developments, if built, would add 247 total units of affordable housing in the county.

Unfortunately, there are also a couple of large apartment building projects right on Chester that have been long approve but just don't seem to be able to break ground.  I think one is called Chester 82 and is being developed by Marous and the other is around 75th and is a Famicos project.

There's another project very close to Chester 82 that will be announced in the very near future

Thanks for the scoop.  Announcements are nice...shovels are even nicer.

I am encouraged by the direction of Cleveland.  Continued investment in east side neighborhoods (and reduction in crime) is the key to growth.

Hough renovation secures financing, start date
By Ken Prendergast / July 8, 2024

In a long-planned redevelopment, the renovation of a vacant and vandalized 10-story apartment building at the east end of Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood finally has the green light to start work. That green light came today as $47 million in financing closed for the project and construction is due to start before the end of this month.

I agree. Adding a building like this is huge. Removing that 10-story eyesore is even huge-erer.
