April 19, 20232 yr I'm just excited that they are putting curb cut-outs along Chester instead of either making its own street (the townhomes on chester) or giving it major setback with a mini-parking lot (10001/Innova). Jeez Chester is home to some of the worst site plans when you think about it. Edit: Nevermind looking at it again, the curb cutout is along East 82nd. Edited April 19, 20232 yr by MyPhoneDead

April 24, 20232 yr Chester 82 gets thumbs up By Ken Prendergast / April 24, 2023 When the Cleveland Planning Commission gave final approval of design plans on April 21 for the Chester 82 development, 1898 E. 82nd St., it coincided with the federal government’s release of the latest jobs data for Greater Cleveland. That data offered a reminder of why Chester 82 and other residential developments in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood are happening. April 24, 20232 yr @KJPThanks for the insight on this project, Chester is really turning into a residential corridor! Just a heads up, the "Madonna Hall" was razed in '07, not '08, I worked in University at that time. This might also be verifiable by a Google Maps search.

It all started back in 2021, when the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District released a request for proposals (RFP) for several school sites that were slated to be sold because they were no longer needed. The Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC) pitched the idea of building a park in Hough on the former site of the John W. Raper Elementary School, and the proposal was accepted by the city. September 1, 20231 yr is allen estates back in play? i think it was paused?? that is great if it could be built out -- 👍 Construction on Allen Estates’ first phase starts, hoping to spark even more development nearby By: Kevin Barry Posted at 7:33 AM, Feb 14, 2022 and last updated 7:34 AM, Feb 14, 2022 CLEVELAND — Sheila Wright’s Valentine’s Day gift to her Hough neighborhood is an Allen Estates project that she hopes will break ground in more ways than one. In the literal sense, Frontline Development Group’s construction project is starting this week, weather permitting, on the first six single-family homes named for Carolyn Watts Allen and Robert Allen, who moved into the Hough neighborhood in the early 1990s, inspiring others to also invest there. “We’ve been saying for years, ‘Why aren’t people investing in neighborhoods,” said Wright. “Well, people are investing in neighborhoods now.” Eventually, she hopes to build 237 housing units, broken up between single-family homes, townhomes, and mixed-use buildings that could also bring street-level retail back to Hough. When professional baseball was played at League Park, it was in the middle of a densely-packed, diverse community. The project will figuratively be breaking ground after overcoming pandemic delays, rising construction costs, and generations of redlining and disinvestment that prevented Hough residents from buying homes and building generational wealth. Allen Estates is designed to make homeownership more attainable for residents and could help make future development nearby easier by increasing property values and bringing more people to the neighborhood. more: https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/whats-going-on-with/construction-on-allen-estates-first-phase-starts-hoping-to-spark-even-more-development-nearby Frontline Development Group Homes like this one could be a stepping stone for homeowners to build generational wealth they haven't had access to in the past.

November 28, 20231 yr Sorry, didn't have time to tease you with a bomb. Got another big one coming tomorrow evening. Largest Hough development in a century By Ken Prendergast / November 28, 2023 The largest planned, single development in a century is proposed for Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood by reutilizing the huge site of the closed Martin Luther King Jr. High School, 1651 E. 71st St. On that 11-acre property bounded by Hough and Lexington avenues plus East 71st and 73rd streets, 310 housing units and two divisible commercial spaces are planned as part of a neighborhood destination. November 29, 20231 yr Oh my gosh, I adore this proposal. So hear me out—THIS, but what if we build it on every single vacant block on the east side.
November 29, 20231 yr Beating a dead horse here for many forumers regarding the history here…but man, sure is nice to get back some of the massive amounts of lost density.

I've been looking forward to projects like this, with street facing apartments on the outside, and public parks on the inside. Reminds me of the Kensington area of London, something we don't do much here.
November 29, 20231 yr BTW, I forgot that this site used to be the original University School, dating to the 1890s when this was a wealthy neighborhood. Charles Schweinfurth was the architect of US. See the original US building below. When US moved to Shaker in 1926, Cleveland Public Schools bought it and remodeled it as Thomas A. Edison School, a school for boys with discipline problems. It was demolished circa 1970 and replaced with the current MLK High School. November 29, 20231 yr great that the site is being developed. I think i might have flipped the orientation of this proposal and put the big building and shops on Lexington. Ive felt that, with some concentrated development, league park could serve as something of a town square for the neighborhood with shops, churches, the family center and maybe a library circling it.
November 29, 20231 yr I think this put a bigger smile on my face than Sherwin-Williams HQ did. Hough is such a good location, it has to be redeveloped. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
November 29, 20231 yr Looking good and will be great to see the areas between here and League Park filling in asap. As an aside I'm hoping this developer takes this similar vision with the initial 10 story building plan to downtown Lakewood. It just floors me that nothing is happening there!
December 8, 20231 yr Birthing Beautiful Communities to rise on Chester By Ken Prendergast / December 8, 2023 For the non-profit organization Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC), their mission is often noted in news stories detailing Cuyahoga County’s infant mortality crisis. Much of the need is in Cleveland’s inner city and especially on the East Side.
