Posted November 7, 20195 yr For those not too familiar with Akron geography, here is West Hill on the map...which is notably closer to Downtown than Highland Square: ------ First Look: Spotted Owl Bar in Akron’s West Hill Neighborhood Posted By Douglas Trattner on Wed, Oct 9, 2019 at 3:39 pm The Spotted Owl just celebrated its fifth anniversary in Tremont, and by the end of the month the cocktail bar will open a second location, this one in the West Hill neighborhood of Akron. Owner Will Hollingsworth has spent the past year converting the old Firehouse No. 3 at 60 S. Maple St. into an attractive, warmly lit watering hole. The turn-of-the-century building, once home to the fire station that now resides across the street, features 16-foot ceilings clad in gorgeous honey-toned wood. Cut-outs for a pair of fireman’s poles, now patched up, can still be seen above. The spacious 3,000-square-foot room will seat 75 guests at the bar, high-tops and a couple of sumptuous velvet booths. “The building has great bones,” says Hollingsworth. “I wanted to keep things simple. The space knows what it wants to be, you just have to listen.” https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2019/10/09/first-look-spotted-owl-bar-in-akrons-west-hill-neighborhood Edited November 7, 20195 yr by MuRrAy HiLL
November 8, 20195 yr ^On one of my visits back to Akron, I had visited the cocktail bar that occupied this space before the Spotted Owl. It was pretty good and I'm not sure why it shut down. I'm happy to try the Spotted Owl on my next trip. It's in a really cool building.

They were doing pretty good business.

July 13, 20204 yr Its really incredible to see the holistic family-centric model of the I-Promise School spill over into tangible neighborhood investments like housing and community infrastructure. This is beginning to look more and more like the headline grabbing model the rest of the nation should replicate. Leave it to LBJ to back up the headlines! Edited July 13, 20204 yr by ASP1984
December 15, 20204 yr LeBron James Family Foundation purchases Akron's Tangier, plans to turn it into multi-purpose facility 'House Three Thirty' will contain a sports complex, restaurants, and even a bank. https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/special-reports/lebron-james-foundation/lebron-james-family-foundation-to-purchase-akrons-tangier-turn-it-into-multi-purpose-facility/95-de9412f8-0948-44c0-af2b-581bc7e27d0f ============================ I thought about putting this in Akron restaurant news ... but even as things stand, the last few times I was at Tangier, it wasn't in its capacity as a restaurant, either. It was at hosted events in the event space there. And the LJFF picking this up makes a lot of sense, in hindsight.
December 15, 20204 yr Glad he’s keeping the restaurant going. Very cool. Hopefully it can be transitioned back in the near future to a venue.

September 7, 20213 yr Here are some current photos of the renovation work being done at the former Tangier. They removed the covered dropoff between the parking deck and entertainment complex. Not sure if anything is being planned to replace it. I would assume so since it does cover the drive when walking from the deck and we are in NE Ohio. There is one photo looking in the door off Market St. There is a sports bar being planned from what I was told.
