Posted November 19, 20195 yr I was wondering if anyone has any idea how much it would cost to pay a consultant to apply for a new National Register Historic District (my particular interest is in Cincinnati, but this is probably relevant for all of Ohio). The area would be around 120 buildings spread out across about 23 acres. Obviously I don't need a hard number, just a ballpark figure ($5k, $10k, $25k?). I would guess a consultant would ask for a base fee and then an additional cost per building, but I don't really know. Any ideas?
November 19, 20195 yr On a few districts that I've been involved with, they've ranged from $10k to $30k, often around $15 to $20k.
November 19, 20195 yr last year there was a proposal for a new Historic District in Painesville. I'm not sure how all of this works, but they received a grant for 12K from the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Pipeline Initiative (if you're familiar with that), and if I'm understanding this correctly, they were able to cut the costs of this process considerably by hiring an intern majoring in historic preservation who is writing a thesis on Painesville history to do much of the leg work Downtown Painesville Organization obtains grant to complete national historic designation process https://www.news-herald.com/news/ohio/downtown-painesville-organization-obtains-grant-to-complete-national-historic-designation/article_8f4e51c5-de89-5e9d-80e1-be5abd17ef28.html "The Downtown Painesville Organization recently received funding to complete the National Register Nomination for a historic district. Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Pipeline Initiative awarded the DPO a grant up to $12,000. The primary goal of the Pipeline Initiative is to develop a pipeline of properties that are eligible for redevelopment assistance. The initiative provides funding and technical assistance to assist in nominating buildings, districts and areas to the National Register of Historic Places, according to its website. Executive Director David Polakowski said the grant will help the organization complete the National Register of Historic Places final application. It will specifically be used to appoint Tara Carlson as a paid intern." http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
