Posted December 4, 20195 yr These photos were taken December 1. Hickman County: Read the fine print: Nashville Yards development - this is where the big Amazon offices are going: A strip of nondescript survivors: Amazon's first office tower: The former approach to Nashville's Union Station: The white office tower at right houses state government offices: Former West End Summit development that stalled in 2009 and filled up with water: Skyhouse, completed around 2016: Looking down West End toward DT Nashville: Across from Vanderbilt University, completed 2017 or 2018: Nada: Broadway & Demunbreun pointy intersection: Demunbreun - this street is named after the Quebecois fur trapper credited as being the first white man to live in the Nashville area: One of the last recording studios left on Music Row: Skyhouse's hideous parking garage: Virgin Hotel: Virgin Hotel: Looking toward Music Row: One more shot of Skyhouse: Walking back over I-40...the next overpass is Broadway and the one after that is Church, which is where this walk began: Where your trust fund goes to die: I fear that poor little Cummings Signs isn't long for this world: Looking toward The Gulch - the two residential towers at center were built 2006-07, right before the crash: Site of the old Union Station train shed...it was demolished amid some controversy around 2006: The old train shed...obviously this land is needed if passenger rail ever returns to Nashville (it has no Amtrak service and the Music City Star terminates on a spur on the riverfront). I suspect that a corollary to Hudson Yards will be built here -- a development on a platform above space for future passenger & commuter rail. The Gulch: Brand New: Those balconies had a view for about 3-4 years: Brand New...the construction crane just came down:
December 4, 20195 yr The new Graduate looks nice (at least the corner facade, anyway). Who are all these people that love country music? “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
December 4, 20195 yr Nashville is interesting. My mom lived in North Alabama for a long time and I first went to Nashville around 2006, my buddy and I went down there from Iowa for spring break (Alabama to do some work then spent some money on a night out in Nashville). It was in this area on the other side of I-40 where we stayed. There were just kind of seedy motels and car dealerships. My friend and his wife moved there and we visited them, plus we went on our own once, probably was 2016 and 2015 now. That whole area is completely and radically different than what it was (it's the area where the skyhouse is). The skyline as a whole is really different stretching much further out, kind of like a mini Dallas or Atlanta. The Honkey Tonks weren't super busy in 2006 (busy but not insane). Now, its like you are walking from Casino to Casino in Vegas, completely packed. The area really blew up. To answer people's questions, I think it is blowing up becasue it has been popular for a long time for country music and to get drunk and party, and it's in an area that isn't far away from a ton of areas like Las Vegas would be to an East Coaster or Midwesterner, or NO would be on the same account.
December 9, 20195 yr so it looks like amazon split up their second HQ2 in half when they bailed on queens. now the other HQ2 half is split between ny and nashville -- with the initial HQ2 half being in dc. ny gets the consumer and advertising of course and nashville gets operations. both get 5k office jobs. so very good get for nashville, but also excellent get for nyc as they did not give up a cent vs the $3B nys was going to put up for all of this to be in lic. the ny amazon offices will be scattered around hudson yards buildings, and of course, they are still arguing about it out here -- lol: https://www.amny.com/business/new-amazon-lease-for-ny-space-reignites-debate-over-failed-queens-deal/
