I'm not sure the current state if the building confirms whether or not they are. Upon closer look at the rendering, it almost looks like they intend to just paste it with no actual windows or anything. And seeing the elevator core through one of the windows still looks like it can happen? Edited February 6, 20241 yr by DTCL11
February 8, 20241 yr Downtown's PNC Tower reopens as Preston Centre, offering more than 100 apartments "The former PNC Tower on East Broad Street has reopened as Preston Centre, offering Downtown's largest transformation yet of an office building into residences. More than seven years in the making, the project involved converting floors 10 through 23 of the 24-story office tower into 105 apartments. Where desks, cubicles and office chairs once sat now stand bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms." When finished, the building is expected to include up to five restaurants and bars. Remaining phases to the project include: •Cameron Mitchell Restaurants continues to work on its Butcher & Rose steakhouse, expected to open in the summer. •Work has just begun converting the skywalk connecting Preston Centre to a parking lot on the other side of South 4th Street into an open-air landscaped walkway to be called Preston Park. •Edwards expects to submit final plans soon for the renovation of the Galleria portion of the property, on South 3rd Street, into an indoor-outdoor biergarten, tapas restaurant and speakeasy. •Edwards is seeking another restaurant tenant for the lower level of Preston Centre, below Butcher & Rose. •While not formally part of the Preston Centre project, Edwards is also building a 13-story, 164-apartment building at 195 E. Broad St. that is expected to open by the end of the year. The building will be connected by the skywalk and share some amenities with Preston Centre. •Edwards has also proposed a 12-story, 221-unit apartment building at 33 S. 4th St., immediately south of the Preston Centre. https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/real-estate/2024/02/08/downtowns-pnc-tower-reopens-as-preston-centre-with-100-apartments/72324946007/

Love that he is taking the risk that it seems other developers are holding off on downtown. Would love to see Wood Co and Kaufman get more downtown stuff going also.

Wish the price were a bit lower. Crazy how much the elevator shaft renovation cost.

Those thin floor to ceiling windows really transitioned well into residential usage. Stunning apartments at a stunning price. Hopefully since there's only 105 of them, they'll be able to sell at those price points.

Given the look and feel of the units and all the amenities in and around the building, it seems like for sale units would be logical. I'm not in the real estate trade by any stretch of the imagination, so just conjecture on my part.
February 9, 20241 yr The first metal panels have started going up on the top of the north facade. Looks like they're still planning to use black vertically-ribbed panels.

February 10, 20241 yr Well thankfully they designed this atrocity so I no longer think the Highpoint is an ugly building.

April 4, 20241 yr According to apartments.com none of these apartments have been rented yet. Obviously those numbers probably aren’t 100% accurate, but doesn’t seem like a good thing that all of them are still available after being open for 2 months.

It's kind of counter intuitive general urban practices these days. skybridges pull from street activation year round to make it more 'comfortable' for a small period of time. So in a time when cities are not permitting them and tearing many down to fix their negative impact, we don't need any new ones here. Especially as our winters resemble a Carolina winter more and more. Edited April 4, 20241 yr by DTCL11

April 24, 20241 yr 3 minutes ago, columbus17 said: Why does it look like they’re completely removing it? I think the plan has always been to "remove" the narrow-enclosed space as the goal is to actually enlarge and widen the walkway as a whole for park space. They are doubling the width if not more. I really like that this will connect 3 of Edwards' properties in the future. This also allows the residents of the Preston Center to use the amenity deck and rooftop pool of their 195 E Broad Street building as well as their proposed 12 story building next to Preston Center and connected to the renovations and upcoming restaurants and bars in the atrium right on capital square. As the property owner of multiple sites, it's honestly a great way to interconnect them and allow them to benefit from each one's amenities.
