Funny can't remember the last time someone was shot at Crocker Park just for existing and being an innocent bystander. I guess my irrational fear is from being a racist and not from the fact of crime data when you compare said Crocker Park vs Slavic Village or as a whole Cleveland vs say Pittsburgh.

Ford F150 lives matter!    A innocent victim of the vicious North Olmsted Crips, who were clearly on Westlake Bloods territory!

I see you're really having to dig deep into 2 years ago, meanwhile yet another carjacking occurred last night just downtown, this time in the flats per Ed Gallek. But keep digging your heads in the sand because this pipe dream of 30,000 downtown residents aint ever going to happen when you don't feel safe just walking to your car. Half my GF's floor of her apartment already left this calender year

And yet, developers keep building new apartments Downtown. Perhaps, they should consult with you first.

Or we could do the math.   One shooting in Crocker Park with it's, what, 200 residents vs nearly 400,000 in Cleveland.

I saw that Westlake is also banning cruising at Crocker Park.  Things must be getting scary on Friday and Saturday nights.

2 dead. It was a murder-suicide.

And it was in the suburbs. This is the Cleveland safety discussion....

The EY Building garage has new security protocols in place as per a friend who works there.   Allegedly numerous "incidents" including a serious one Wednesday.

Decided to give Amtrak a shot for my Chicago trip. Pulled into the parking lot and there’s just glass on every empty parking space. Evidently several cars had their windows smashed recently. I’m fully expecting to come back with my car windows smashed in. Can’t wait.

I would count this as another perk to putting Amtrak back into Tower City.  Covered, somewhat secure parking for Amtrak travelers who are obviously away from their cars for days on end.    Please let us know how you fare upon return.

Could it be possible Cleveland assigns some cops to keep watch on the Amtrak station and its surroundings.  Vehicles getting their windows smashed at the Amtrak station is not a very good look for Cleveland. ☹️

I never park at the Amtrak station. I always get a ride from a friend or Uber/Lyft/Taxi. Seen/heard too many bad stories over the decades.

Several vehicles had their windows smashed at one of the parking lots near Progressive Field when the Guardians were in town a couple weekends ago.  Many of them were here from out-of-town.  Not sure it is possible to assign cops everywhere, but perhaps security guard(s) or some type of surveillance.

Luckily my car windows weren’t smashed.

I can't stand that kind of crime/vandalism. When you see it it feels like society is fraying at the seams.

You come back to you car after a nice evening out and come upon a few cars with their windows smashed. So deflating.

Or your business gets trashed because of police misconduct in a town hundreds of miles away.

The degree is different, but the source is the same:  a toxically incorrect belief that this is somehow striking at "the system", condoned and sometimes even excused by people who should know better.

I had an interview in Cinci a couple years ago. Decided to walk to a coffee shop in OTR to get some work done prior to my interview. I take a phone call outside the shop and low and behold, there is some random (probably homeless/crazy guy) going ham on a car window in broad daylight smashing it completely. He had already did this to 3 other cars next to it. Pretty sure he was crazy and just smashing the windows with the intent to cause damage. Called the cops and thankfully they came in time to arrest the guy. My point being is that I hope out of towners who have their car windows broken into in Cleveland don't think this is a Cleveland thing. It's the sad reality of how we treat our cities when it comes to crime and making them a liveable place. It certainly didn't dampen my view of Cinci that I already had.

It'd be cool if parking lot owners had some liability in all of this. Yes parking prices would go up but also they wouldn't be able to hide behind a disclaimer and would have to actually provide something other than physical space that they're making tons of money off of. I hate all of our lots around town with NOT RESPONSIBLE plastered on their signs when they're charging anywhere from $8-$80+(on the rare major events). If you want to leech off of the city and squat on valuable lots, you should have to provide something back to society.

I know I'm liberal pie in the sky dreaming but I will never feel bad for parking lot owners.

FWIW, I have ridden Amtrak out of Cleveland at least 20 times, usually for about a week at a time, and I have never had a problem.  Although I will admit that I do feel a little relief when I come back and my windows aren't smashed.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Better get control over downtown or the residents will leave too

^Not saying this didn’t happen, it probably did, but I’ve been up since 7am and didn’t notice a thing. Maybe the DCA got on it real quick and tidied it up, or it actually occurred in the middle of the night and was fixed by morning.

Broken car windows are not some sort of larger societal problem with the "system," other than we don't provide mental health and substance abuse treatment in this country they way we should.

99.9% of all car break ins are linked to some local addict rooting around for change or something else of value to sell for drugs/alcohol.    It amazes me when I walk by these parked cars downtown on game nights and people have all kinds of stuff laying out in their car, like an electronics warehouse!   When I park downtown I even hide my phone charging cable and leave nothing visible outside the parked car.

That's ridiculous victim-blaming nonsense akin to the schmucks suing Kia and Hyundai for a lack of immobilizer systems. It's just always someone else's fault, isn't it. I couldn't help but rape her your honor, for I have a sex addiction and society caused this and maybe racism and blah blah blah.

Opportunistic contrarian assholes, emboldened by enablers and excuse-makers, share the blame solely.

When I park ANYWHERE - my house driveway included - I put all items and packages out of site. Makes common sense.

I'm not blaming any victim.  It's just common sense.

I'm almost reluctant to mention this because I have no real details, but as I was driving down W.25th last week I heard a guy yelling "They all jumped out and robbed him, and got back in their car and took off!" Sure enough down the street a few blocks there were 3 or 4 police officers interviewing a guy who looked distraught. This was at a pretty crowded time of day and right in broad daylight.

That’s a garbage example. It is absolutely appropriate for governments to be suing Kia and Hyundai for not implementing simple immobilizer systems. The lack of those systems causes the government to have to spend a bunch of money chasing down cars that wouldn’t have been stolen if those companies hadn’t cheaped-out and not included them. And also, @Cleburgerwas correct in his initial critique - NEVER leave items of value in plain sight in a vehicle.

Notice the head of the council safety committee is the one speaking out, not the mayor and definitely not the district's councilman.

A large problem in this city is every politician yells and is aiming to get their soundbites and potshots out there instead of working collaboratively towards the greater good of the city. Every councilperson is at war with other wards and aren't moving the city forward. I'll just say that Polensek is one of the loudest voices, take it as you will.

A little surprised this isn't bigger news. Saw it on page 6 in the Plain Dealer. Apparently this was the second shooting on W6th that night, three others were shot on W6 in Tremont as well. Is posting of PD screencaps frowned upon? Assuming so or I'd post it.

The key when posting from other media sources is keeping it to three or fewer paragraphs. Usually we also link to the source website. Copy/paste of the text loads faster as compared to screen caps. Most photos on the web have a direct link if you dig enough - posting a direct link to an image embeds it on the page without needing to upload.
