July 20, 20231 yr Telling anecdotes or reporting crimes is one thing. Fair game. But this constant "why would anyone ever go downtown" repetition is getting old and feeling troll'ish. I really don't want this thread to go way off topic, but as I have suggested before this certain poster IS a borderline troll. He pops up every now and then in a variety of threads and his constant theme is downtown Cleveland is s**t. Nothing ever positive and never any interesting contributions regarding things like construction or any other aspect of life in Cleveland like other posters. I suggested in the past not to engage as he clearly has an agenda, but I know it is hard.

That, pressure from elected officials calling out the juvenile system in press conferences lately and I'm sure behind the scenes. The general public growing tired of the lawlessness.
July 27, 20231 yr Could be worse. There is an activist judge down in Franklin County that kept turning hardened criminals away from juvenile facilities, leading to a revolving door on criminals that kept reoffending over and over again. And a juvenile jail that is chronically overcrowded by design (capacity lowered because of "COVID" a year later).

August 1, 20231 yr Cleveland partners with Cuyahoga County Sheriff to combat violent crime downtown Kim Palmer | August 1st 2023 "In an effort to deal with a spate of shootings and other violence that has occurred this summer in downtown Cleveland, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s department and the Cleveland Police Department are partnering to increase patrols and traffic enforcement throughout the central business district. Sheriff’s department law enforcement officers “will be strategically deployed to maximize resources and provide increased visibility — with the goal of deterring criminal behavior and improving security,” according to a statement from the county issued Monday, July 31. ... This is not the first time the city of Cleveland has partnered with other law enforcement agencies. In the spring, the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined with CPD to help deal with the city’s non-street-legal vehicles and other traffic problems." https://www.crainscleveland.com/government/county-sheriff-help-cleveland-police-downtown-patrols

People get suspicious that the wrong approach will be taken when it's called "gun violence".
August 2, 20231 yr At the end of the day, Governor DeWine can't/won't do anything save for a semi-permanent National Guard presence with checkpoints in the more dangerous areas. Which of course city "leaders" would decry and never permit. The issue, as it is everywhere else in the country that has seen decades of varying chaos in cities, neighborhoods, inner ring suburbs, and now some outer ring 'burbs, is s**tty kids with their s**tty parent(s) and constant enablers. State and local leadership can't fix those mentalities and emboldeness in the short or long term. A better economy, changing demographics, and draconian punisments to juveniles and their families for terrorizing communities are the cure, but those measures are well beyond the mayor or governor's control. We just need better people in these communities. Solves a lot of the chaos. Edited August 2, 20231 yr by TBideon

August 17, 20231 yr Before I call* Polensek's office, does anyone know the laws in the city of Cleveland regarding loitering on curbs at intersections? We've had what we call the "open air bar" on E. 156th just north of Lakeshore, on the side of the road where Walgreen's used to be for awhile now. CPD has tried to disperse them at least once, where they refused and the matter was not pushed. As I predicted it's been going later and later and the crowd has been getting younger and rowdier. Last night it was past 10. *if you know me you know what a big deal that is, I avoid talking on the phone whenever possible)

That's embarrassing to be honest- looks like the keystone cops.
