June 29, 20168 yr So a 18yo urban explorer got caught on the roof of the new Hilton in downtown last night after security caught him and three juvies up on the roof doing insta"photo" shoots and other miscellaneous crap. I met the kid some time back and he's just another one of those "I've got it made" photographers who hypes up their work with filters while doing stupid stunts (like, skateboarding on the EDGE of the Hilton). We warned him just two nights ago to cool it and to keep his profile down, given he was just given probation for trespassing into Wilson High School on E55. He was with minors then too, but that part was overlooked by police. He was able to bargin a deal to have his Misdemeanor (M) charge reduced from M4 to M1 and be placed on probation; if he cleared probation, his charges would be dropped entirely. Well, guess what. Now he has a TWO M1 charges for endangering a minor (max 180 days each on each charge); his first M1 charge comes back (max 180 days); M4 trespassing at the Hilton (max 30 days); and Felony 5 for B&E (cutting the lock - that's 1 year max). This is one of those insta"photographers" who has been to the Hilton several times. :x
June 29, 20168 yr Do people making money by posting pictures to Instagram? Or do they just do it for the thrill? I don't really understand...

June 29, 20168 yr I don't cut locks, break into places, skitch cop cars, and be dicks to the police/secret service. To each their own, but it's a good warning considering secret service essentially has control of every rooftop in downtown Cleveland. 16 years I have gone without a citation because I work with landowners and take every precaution available.

June 29, 20168 yr ^ Yeah, he seems young and dumb. The photo of him skateboarding on the ledge of the building made my palms sweaty. People can be so stupid.

July 25, 20168 yr @Kristin_Volk Per @CLEpolice - two men shot downtown early Saturday at E. 9th & St. Clair, conditions unknown. One shot in head. It kind of scares me that this doesn't get reported until 230P the next day.
July 25, 20168 yr Why? You think there should be an immediate newsflash on all media outlets every time there is a non-fatal shooting? Or does it just matter because it was Downtown?
July 25, 20168 yr ^^^I think it was reported on Cleveland.com later the same morning it happened (see time stamp of post): http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/07/5_injured_in_4_separate_clevel.html#incart_river_index
July 25, 20168 yr In general, it's been a bloody few weeks (absent the RNC). I'm guessing that some of the PTB got the gang war(s) put on hiatus until the Convention was over.

August 8, 20168 yr At the very least, I don't think he warrants his own thread in City Discussions. So I merged it with this thread.
August 8, 20168 yr Most mobsters are total scum. But Ciasullo was different. He helped me with a problem a decade ago. He didn't ask for anything in return. I won't forget him for that. Huge difference. I had heard similar to KJP's comments about Ciasullo, he would help people just because he wanted to. Licavoli and Liberatore were like that too, by many accounts, though they were more likely to ask for payback at some point. They didn't randomly shoot up businesses to get one person and didn't attack families.
August 8, 20168 yr They didn't randomly shoot up businesses to get one person and didn't attack families. I would agree if you insert the word 'always', because sometimes they did. The same applies to today's thugs. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

September 23, 20168 yr Not at the Clinic where they are only announcing it now without saying where it happened (since it is on all the news channels first). People shouldn't be parking anywhere south of Cedar or even Carnegie or north of Chester for that matter. At least not unless the Clinic is going to provide security. The Clinic doesn't want to spend money fixing cameras or providing security as that could effect their record profits.
October 4, 20168 yr Cleveland bicycle shop burglarized for third time POSTED 7:08 PM, OCTOBER 3, 2016, BY MATT WRIGHT http://fox8.com/2016/10/03/cleveland-bicycle-shop-burglarized-for-third-time/
October 4, 20168 yr They stole a handicap transport van and did this: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/vans-left-inside-metro-pcs-store-on-west-130th-street-in-latest-smash-and-grab
October 5, 20168 yr Cleveland police will never catch them. Lazy, incompetent and/or poorly trained. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
October 11, 20168 yr Leaving for work this morning, I watched the end of a chase, Euclid PD cornered someone behind Dave’s Supermarket on Lakeshore. CPD showed up later. Guy robs a CVS in Westlake and gets ventilated. People smash and grab ATMs in Cleveland and the cops aren’t allowed to chase them. Guess what the result is likely to be?
October 11, 20168 yr It's not that CPD is poorly trained, it's that their hands are tied by the city. They have been forbidden to chase suspects that ride ATV's and dirt bikes (so they now use that as a main transport) (the mayor's grandson is embedded with these folks, which compounds the matter - who was caught on MLK not long ago and released without charge). They have essentially been forbidden to shoot any suspect that's black without having some BLM saga come up. They have essentially been forbidden from chasing suspects who do smash and grabs (or drive through the front wall and grabs). You want improvement in the hard hit areas? Deploy your resources that you already have.

Contrast this with W. 65th and Lorain where they got away.
October 11, 20168 yr Oh look. Another smash-and-grab where a stolen minivan was used as a battering ram to take the ATM from a cell phone store on the west side. Five people were involved. Here is the kicker. Get ready for this. CPD gave chase for a few seconds before stopping due to pursuit policy and because the smash-and-grab was a property crime. There are no descriptions of the suspects. The van was tan. Oops. Didn't realize that this was what you had posted above ERocc.

Because in 2016, that’s what stealing an ATM basically is.
October 11, 20168 yr I heard on the news there have been 44 of these so far in 2017 in Cleveland. If the law says these are property crimes, are charged as a lesser offense than bank robbery, and I'm a criminal considering whether to rob a bank or break into an ATM, I'm doing the latter. If the law says these are property crimes, are charged as a lesser offense than bank robbery, and I'm a criminal considering whether to rob a bank or break into an ATM, I'm doing the latter. It seems the same bunch is suspected of all three smash and grabs in Cleveland then proceeding to the Speedway in Euclid, from where they got chased by EPD (I mean the department as a whole) and bailed out behind Dave's. So if you're a criminal considering whether to steal an ATM in Cleveland or a suburb, guess what the choice is going to be.
October 18, 20168 yr Wade Park gang linked to more than 50 smash-and-grabs in Cleveland area The Wade Park gang is accused of committing more than 50 smash-and-grab ATM thefts in Greater Cleveland, according to court records. -- On a sidebar, I noticed a lot of businesses in the area have recently put up concrete bollards around their business. Sad.

October 18, 20168 yr I thought every place had them. I know that many places near me on the west side of Cleveland and in Lakewood have concrete barricades outside their front doors -- especially stores with high-value goods inside. October 19, 20168 yr I am thinking of the Giant Eagle on Buckeye that now has bollards completely surrounding the front facade. I was at a GetGo in Lakewood yesterday and they had the standard few in the front of the building, but there were sizable gaps in the very front by the door where a van could easily smash in between and destroy the front facade for the ATM - or the sides or back for that matter.

October 21, 20168 yr You're not kidding. I've had to call the Lakewood PD a few times when I've heard/seen drinking party fights or domestic violence incidents spill out into the streets in my neighborhood. And it's a bit of a stunning thing to see so many police converge in so little time. It's also a bit of a rush to think, as I look down from my fifth-floor window, that my little phone call can summon so much fire power so quickly. I'm like, damn, I caused that... Go ahead--get into a traffic accident in Cleveland and see what the response time logs in at. If you're lucky you'll see a cop within 4 hours.

October 21, 20168 yr They showed up within about 45 minutes when my car got stolen and recovered it by the next day. I'm glad to read this. My take is that before the Justice Department got involved 90% of the cops themselves did right by about 90% of the population. Now it's more complicated. The rank and file returned Steve to union president because of this.
