Happening more often compared to when? I've lived in Gordon Square since 2008 and this is the safest we've ever felt here.

Ya. Suburban effect. More people hanging out in those neighborhoods who never hung out there in the aughts. I went to Ignatius 04-09 and had friends who lived in the neighborhoods surrounding. It was way worse. There's just no perspective because there was nowhere to hangout in the neighborhoods back then like there is now.

I still remember what the W 65th and Detroit area looked like in 2002...ROUGH.

Kids are now playing pinball on land where hookers, addicts and gang members once controlled in broad daylight. It was like the wild Wild West!

The Happy Dog was fun back then, probably my first introduction into the neighborhood. It seemed like an outpost. They didn't even have a liquor license it was byob.

But yeah, my friends who bartended there were robbed at gunpoint more than once.

I agree with this for the most part but reality is I've been downtown and now on the west side bordering Detroit Shoreway and Ohio City for the last 7 years and this is the first year I saw guns get pulled during altercations (twice) in the Flats and downtown.

It's not normal and is happening more often. We should speak up on the fact that certain places which used to feel safe(r), don't. I know people who are afraid to go out to Gordon Square at night now with all the recent carjackings. You can blame the media but the people to truly blame are the ones doing it. It is only a matter of time before an innocent person in a crowded bar gets clipped.

Pure luck it didn't happen here, we were semi-crowded that night.

Dunno what’s going on down by the river these last couple of days, but someone got shot up outside Stonebridge the other night and now this seemingly at FEB

I was in the area when it happened. It was a short lived fist fight between the two individuals then a single shot (LOUD) in front of the FEB apartment building. The area was fortunately desolate besides a few construction workers.

Many a classmate getting jumped or robbed en route to their cars on Bridge or Chatham - hard to believe that was barely a decade ago

Finally, something happened directly in it. Usually the fights spill out and on to the street. The restaurant shouldn’t have a liquor license with all the things that go on here… a shooting during all star week– so sad.

And the owner of this fine establishment was on the news this week groveling that they should receive a last call extension.  I hope this is the final straw.. the surrounding businesses aren’t going to put up with Anejo as a neighbor for much longer.

I wonder how many of them stay open until 2:30,  and how many don't because of Anejo.

I heard about 5 gun shots last night - but I live near Garrett Morgan, so I doubt I would've heard those.

Editing this now - as I see it was 3:15pm and not AM

Apparently the victim went out to his car, a van drove up and shot him.    Sounds like a gang hit, not an in-bar incident.

A guy got shot in front of the Naughty Mermaid, likely related to this shooting.   Also two people shot in the E. 55th area.

Dumbest place to kill someone. I don't know if many of you are aware but RTA buses have cameras at pretty much every angle. Our suspect will probably be in custody within days.

Already arrested, seems he shot himself during the altercation too. Guns are a symptom of the plague that is poverty and poor education.

And the gun industry's drive to make guns readily available to everyone, without any qualifications or restrictions.

Right. A gun in every hand because it's our constitutional right don't you know.

I just got back from a week in Arizona. I saw people carrying side arms like it was 1880. I'm not used to seeing something like that although I guess we're going to have to get used to it since Ohio passed open carry. Time marches backward now.

Open carry has been legal for quite some time now.

That's right. They just changed the requirements. No training. Don't have to tell the cops you have a loaded gun under the seat. It's all good unless you get shot. Or the cop does.

Look, my dad was a sherriff and an actual Pinkerton guy way back in the day. Every gun owner l know is a responsible one. They are not the problem. It's the proliferation of guns that is the problem. Too many guns in the wrong hands. Not to mention the gun that finds itself in the hands of a guy who two minutes ago was sane but now is temporarily insane because of some stupid argument and now he can't control himself.

I know l've gone off the reservation a couple of times in my life. Thank god l didn't have a gun at the time.

And removing the minimal training means more guns in the "wrong" hands.  There should be no question that guns are dangerous. There should be no question that you should be required to learn to use and store them safely.  Why is it so controversial that we shouldn't make owning a gun easier than driving a car?  None of our constitutional "rights" are unlimited, why should this one be?

I do disagree with not having to tell a cop that you have a gun.

No surprise here! Kids have been posted up around Jefferson Park for some time now filming videos with guns out in the open.

Being from West Park is supposed to be hard now?

To bolster what I said above, a few more videos from the summer shot at Jefferson Park– this area has plenty of gang activity. I think anyone in the area that is affiliated are with LaFlexico/BBE900. It's gonna be a HOT summer– these folks don't discriminate where/when/who.

It very much could be in 10 or 20 years. Can't see many of the homeowners there wanting to stay if a police officer can be killed over his car, or the fact that you can't take your kids to a neighborhood park when literal teenagers are shooting guns in the middle of the day.

Imagine you live on W130 and right outside your front door in the park you having f*cking kids with semi automatic hand guns and automatic rifles making a music video on a regular basis. Who in their right mind would want to live in that situation? West park can easily turn into what North Collinwood has become when the homeowners or majority of the tax base moves out from fear of being a victim of a stray bullet.

Crazy. I used to see a few of these guys around W117. I'm pretty sure the kid Marii was shot to death.

I don't know, I just had dinner last night at Der Braumeister which is across Lorain from Jefferson Park. The restaurant was busy and it was just a Wednesday night. And Hawthorne School nearby is about to be renovated into apartments. A few weeks ago we had dinner at Caffe Roma. Same deal. Nice and busy. No drama. Lots of Middle Eastern families in the area. Didn't see any gangbangers or anything.

We live in a violent nation where shootings occur everywhere, including in the suburbs.

A special "urban living" thanks to the f---stains who decided to hold an organized 20-30 car drag racing meet at midnight last night on Lakeshore Boulevard starting at E. 156th.   My neighbor took video.   Let's see if Bibb wants to be serious about ending stupid-nuisance crime.   Before one of my neighbors does.

My niece grew up in that area, went to St VDP and all.   Her mom and sister still live there.   The Palestinians make good neighbors, I am told.  There's problems but they are sporadic.

Yea god forbid we should have peaceful streets, especially at night. Drag racing through red lights are perfectly acceptable I guess

As is blocking off streets and running organized drag races in residential areas on what most productive people would call work nights.

Second last post just screams "I would rather be a pseudo stalker than say anything relevant", but one unfortunately expects that in 2022.
