It used to be there at one point, right?  Seems relevant on a place-based forum such as this.  If nothing else, seeing it next to every post would encourage people to fill in the field in their profile.  I'm often wondering where some newer or less-frequent posters are from, and the location is hardly ever filled in in people's profiles.

I couldnt find a way to do it.  You could always put your location in your personal text field...which displays next to your posts.

I went to the SMF website and searched... some people have suggested some code that you stick somewhere or other to make it display.  See if these make sense to you:

If it is as simple as those people make it sound and you are able to do it, my humble suggestion would be to use one of the variations where the "Location" still displays even if the field is empty in the user's profile.  That way people will see it next to their names and might actually go fill it in.

I didnt check the mod section out.  Modding is iffy teritory if you have to edit the codes manually,so I try to stay away from it.  But I'll try this out.

Wellll, doing so would technically be an infringement of federal copyright laws. As webmaster of clevelandskyscrapers.com and photographer of 90% of the images on clevelandskyscrapers.com, I'd have grounds for legal action - probably not much beyond a "cease and desist" letter but you get the idea. Sounds silly but it's true.

 

But seriously, I'd be happy to make an avatar - custom-designed, just for you. :-)

As for the other half of the question (posting pictures), something like photobucket gives you some space to upload your images, and then there is a URL for each one which you can paste in your posts here between the [img] and [/img] tags.  You can also attach some pictures to your post by looking in the "Additional Options" when composing a post, but that's meant for just one or two things and grasscat will beat you up and take your lunch money if you post a lot of pictures that way.

 

So the lesson today is: watch your step or both MayDay AND grasscat will kick the crap out of you. :wink:

Thanks for the info!!!!  I will keep looking over my shoulder for MayDay....at least you other two live far enough away that I can have a false sense of security!  I hope to come up with a post to show the side of the city I work on.  I would either like to post a series of short vidoes or pics of when our fire truck responds to calls on the East side.  It might be interesting...who knows?

You know what..I goofed!  The picture I was referring to is right here on UrbanOhio....it is under the Cleveland Skyline pictures....8th row down, 5th picture from the left......I think it has to be one of the coolest pictures of Cleveland I have seen.....makes the city look like a megalopolis!

Haha, no need to worry - I don't mind if you have a pic as your screensaver. That's what's called "fair usage" - aka you aren't using it to make money or reselling it as though it was yours.
