Hey everyone, just wanted to announce a secret lil project I've been working on the past three months, which hopefully explains why I haven't made as many renderings as of late:   I've alway

damn Lushes!

Getting me sloshed would be the ONLY way I would ever have the courage to get up on that scaffolding!

A while back, I had mentioned in this thread of some new signage and awnings at the statler... well it looks like they're getting started... with the big one.

They certainly are. Imagine my surprise this afternoon when I heard an ungodly noise coming from my living room and found some strange man on a crane drilling holes in my exterior wall mere inches from my window. It was slightly surreal.

Thanks for the update MayDay. Does anyone know the extent of the renovation, that is to ask will it continue all the way down the entire tower portion? I'm reasonably sure the answer is yes but can any one confirm this.

As far as I know, they are "rebuilding" the top of the tower, and the main cornices on all parts of the building with fiberglass material.  The main body of the tower will be completely cleaned, and areas repaired as necessary.  All 2,050 windows on the structure will be replaced.  And I believe we are 2 years and 9 months into the 5 year project (about 55% complete), so we've still got a ways to go.

Thanks for the breakdown McCleveland, I'm sure it's been answered before I just couldn't find it.

This guy is a goof ball and this project will go nowhere.  And to blame the negative feelings towards this project here on UO on "typical Cleveland negativity," is BS.  It's just a bad idea, bad programming, and has nothing to do with us thinking we can't get things done here.

AMEN!

Harumph!

^cool website...wish they had more entries!

The signage project at Statler Arms is moving along... The Finer Things Botique has to be ecstatic, their sign actually now says Finer Things Botique as opposed to Statler Florist.

pictures? :)

I didn't have my camera but they seemed to be doing quite a bit of work, so I'm sure there's more to come.  I'll grab my camera after work (one of the advantages of litterally working across the street from where you live) and take some tonight... I'll post them tonight or tomorrow.

mucho gracias

Very pretty!

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Love the red, brightens everything up. Cool photo! The boutique peeps are very cool and I'm happy too they now have a real sign!

Alright, not looking good for the building at the SW corner of Prospect and E4th.  A couple guys from Indepence Excavation were poking their heads around the building during lunch today.  This company does demolition work, and didn't some dreg parking lot company purchase this building over the summer with hopes to probably expand their lot at the corner?

When the sh!t is this city going to grow a set and stop this from happening?  How long will this shit go on?

^Has a demolition permit been granted?

^they're supposed to be doing the outside as well i believe... or so the soldiers and sailors guy told me last time I was in there...

That would be awesome. That thing needs a bit of a spit shine.

on the inside they have a color picture of the exterior from a long time ago.  pretty stark difference.  I'm assuming they are just starting on the inside due to the season and the article mispoke.

I'm very excited to see this - once again, another gem that many don't know about.  The renovation plans sound fantastic, and I really think it will make the interior pop with splendor.

New?  Isn't this adding to the current facility?

I know Cleveland isn't always an easy city to love, but a visit to the West Side Market always seems to make it easier to put up with some of the flaws. I know other cities have similar markets and I've been to several, but they just aren't the same.

Very true!  NONE of them have a Cakes Royale!  :-)

Any love being shown for the new lights/sign outside the Idea Stream building at E.14th & Euclid?  I think the multi colored letters are pretty eye-catching.

There's also a new sign on the (UFCW?) building across from the Board Of Elections on Euclid.  It makes that whole block look nine times better.

This is becoming the Northeast Ohio New Signage Project and Construction subforum.  I suppose with the current economic condition, it may be the best we can hope for.

Facing a fresh, $2.7 million foreclosure filing over his mostly empty, 91-home subdivision at the old Miles Drive-In site in Warrensville Heights, homebuilder Ken Lurie sums up the impact of the credit crunch on his business in a single phrase...

It looks stunning.  Everytime they remove some scaffolding I swear it improves the entire skyline there

what is the circular object on the right hand side of your picture?  some sort of weather radar thingamabob?  wish they could move that, it really is an eyesore

i would think there would be a better building that could be mounted, maybe on top of Erieview, where it wouldn't be as obvious...nor acting as a zit on a civic treasure

Just think of it as a mole on its face - like a beauty mark.

No pictures here either, but I agree that the colors were especially vivid last night.

Yep, they sure were.  I love going down Euclid after I get out of class at CSU.  Terminal Tower looked GREAT last night with just the section on top that was lit.

"The zit" and telecommunications devices like it are probably there because I bet the buildings owners rent out that space.  Money money money!

btw thanks for the pics mayday...when placed next to each other like that, the before and after difference is amazing

I could not help but feel overwhelmed looking at the Terminal Tower last night.  One day after such a historic election, one that not only brought us our first black president, but also reinvigorated the American spirit, I could not help but look up at the red, white, and blue of the Terminal Tower with a sense of pride and patriotism.  I actually felt a bond with everyone I passed, from the guy begging for money, to the guy texting on his blackberry.

It was similar to how I felt at the rally on Sunday, as I could not help but notice the words looming over the crowd: Progress, Culture, and civic duty.

^I believe it contains communications equipment (cell phone transmitters, etc.) but don't quote me on that. I was under the impression it was to be removed but maybe not? Keep in mind there used to be a lot more junk up there.

this is probably a microwave receiver used by local media.  when you see a boom up on a media truck for a live shot, they are usually transmitting the video via microwave to a high spot (top of tower).  So, a live shot set up in strongsville actually points to that device and from there it is hard wired to the station.

there are also a couple of these on top of key tower (but not visible from outside the building).  it could be used for any sort of data streaming like this, where microwaves are being used and not satellite uplink.

that's cool, I'm glad the construction workers have a convenient source for heating up their hot pockets

I know I heard that those were supposed to be removed during the renovations.

Very cool indeed!  I was hoping they did that Monday/Tuesday and even "VOTE" on 200 PS but nonetheless, nice gesture!

It should look just as good tonight for the Browns game.
