Does anyone know what's happening at the 55 Public Square parking garage?  They are cutting out sections of the walls, and it looks like they're replacing those sections with concrete block.  Is this just routine maintenance?

Excellent.  With that being the side that faces the old industrial valley and river, it certainly needed a good scrubbing.

Pig Feet anyone?

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about the new place going in next to the Blind Pig and Liquid/Fusion bars on West 6th Street. This is the old architect place that is fairly small. There was a graphic put up that says "Mel's". I was hoping maybe a diner type establishment.  Thanks!!

Mel's Diner!  That would be awesome.

Looks like someone's already into the "Flo" of the place!  Ba-da-bump.

It looks like there's a lot less scaffolding on the Terminal Tower. Anyone around here have a camera with a good zoom lens on it that can take some pics?

*cough* MayDay *cough*

No need to be subtle...

MayDay, put down the bon-bons, turn off the morning show, get your culo off the couch and go out snaps some pics of the TT!  Puta!   Gracias.

I can't wait for the top section of the tower to be totally lighted!  And the TT looks GREAT!

From the Lakewood end of town... Construction has started on something on the corner of Detroit and Spring Garden. I'll try to go take photos this afternoon.

^I've never heard of Spring Garden? Whereabouts is that street?

About a quarter mile west of Warren. I think this is going to be a Dunkin' donuts but they are building in an existing parking lot.

Edit: Nope I was wrong. I wasn't even thinking about the right street. How about that 5 Guys construction  :-D :-D

It's a few blocks west of the new YMCA in lakewood, just a little bit before the Beck. Looks like its part of the new Social Security Administration Kucinich has been fighting to retain.

Alright folks, as promised. Well, looks like there's been quite a turn of events... here's what they've done with the Terminal Tower :-|

terminalscaffolding3.jpg

According to my sources, they "missed a spot" and had to reconstruct the scaffolding to reach it. That's the bad news; the good news is that they'll have the new scaffolding down in about two years.

JUST KIDDING!!!!!! :-D

Yes indeed, they have almost all the scaffolding off the upper levels. This took me back to the day I first remember seeing this building (at age 6) and thinking it was the most beautiful building I'd ever seen with my own eyes. I am one d@mn happy Clevelander to see our landmark looking so great after the restoration - I know Forest City gets flak, and I see the Terminal Tower just about every day, but they did a fantastic job with this restoration - I can't help looking at it now. Enjoy :-)

damnnnnnnnn! great pics may.... whats next for for the restoration?

extraordinary.

Be-a-utiful!  So will the whole tower be lit up again soon?  Maybe in time for Christmas?!?

Has the main shaft of the tower been cleaned too? ..all the lower floors? How much more will be done..and what? The reason I ask about the lower floors and the stone cleaning is because it looks way better than in the first picture....NOW...But, I never witnessed the work on the lower floors and I wonder to myself.. "How did they do that???"  Like magic!

I also think of Rumpelstiltskin spinning the wheel way up in the top.... Isn't that how that story goes?  I always wondered what it looked like way way up there!

Outstanding

^^If you've noticed some of my update photos for the Terminal Tower restoration (it's a lot of pages, so understandable if you didn't), you can see where they've done work on the main shaft. The most easily visible example is how some panels are bright and beige while others look "sooty", for example:

^ I was intrigued how they were able to work on the main shaft w/o shrouding the entire thing in the scaffolding as in the upper floors.

The first photo in Mayday's latest reply has all the information you need to figure it out.  If Terminal Tower were just a box like the "main shaft" and didn't have the tapering and angles at the top, all we'd have are those towers that the platforms can climb up (see also current happenings at the Schofield building http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,19154.210.html).  The short heights at the top would seem to not warrant the same setup, so we have traditional scaffolding.  This coming from a layman, so it's probably not entirely that simple.

This is just a beautiful photo. Such a crisp, clean looking building set against an equally clean, crisp looking blue sky. Great job MayDay!

^ ^Yeah...that makes sense....I thought it had something to do with all the setbacks, and details on the upper floors. Can't wait to see the entire thing lit up! Are all the new windows in? Any still needing replaced?

The TT looks amazing.  Although it was painful to see all wrapped up for so long, it was well worth it.  This might be my favorite project in Cleveland over the past 15 years.

The top part of the tower was much more complicated because there was a SIGNIFICANT amount of repair work, not just cleaning, done up there.  I believe the lower portion just received a good scrubbing.

Does anyone know whether the lower cornice has been put back up?

The lowest set of columns jump out at me more than before.  Maybe my eye would just skip over them when I was looking up, or the cleaning really helped them stand out by casting shadows on the clean stone.

Anywho, what a neat building.

Kudos to Forest City for polishing it's gem!

Good to see that untarnished slim profile again.  Looks taller than ever.

I have always thought that the TT is one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in the U.S. I whish they would have gotten rid of those two microwave dishes at the 42nd floor level.  They can't generate that much revenue! I also hope that when the observation deck is opened on that floor that the 43rd floor outdoor deck is opened as well.  Does anyone have any old pictures/info  of the 43rd. floor deck?

I think it is more of an "if" it opens.

Do you have any financial statements to back that up?  If they were not breaking even or profitable, I doubt they would still be up.

That's one sexy building! That has always been my favorite building downtown since I was little.  Thanks for the pics!

I wanna see me lots of red and green this year for the holidays!  I think I've missed that the most the past 5 years!

I've really enjoyed watching the scaffolding come down.  I moved back home in July 2006 (with my wife) and this is the first she has ever seen it without scaffolding - she commented the other day how great it looks with little scaffolding around it.  I *almost* forgot what a great looking building it is!

It looks amazing! Did they clean the building to the right (Lankmark Bldg?)? It was in good need of a bath.

I don't think so.  MayDay showed a shot a couple weeks back of some workers on the Landmark Office Towers (hint, hint - plural), but I believe that was just window cleaning.  You're right though.... it definitely needs a bath, but really only on the southern facade.  It wouldn't hurt to scrub the whole building, but it is the side that is tilted toward the river and industrial valley that is just covered in soot.  Everytime I am crossing the interbelt bridge and take a glance at downtown, that soot really gives me an eyesore.

Oh alright, here's another shot - and nope, looks like Landmark Office Towers hasn't been scrubbed:

I would assume the LM buildings have not been cleaned since I worked in them.

I remember somewhere seeing (or at least I THINK I remember seeing) that Huntington bought the naming rights to 200 public square. Correct? I know FOSHO that they are at least moving into the building.

Correct.  Somewhere on here are the images of what the signage will look like.

Now that the Tower has been cleaned I really like the way the new buildings flanking the Skylight Concourse blend in architecturally.  Before, they seemed a little of a mismatch for the tower.
