Oh alright, here's another shot - and nope, looks like Landmark Office Towers hasn't been scrubbed:

Landmark Towers have looked stained on that one side for decades. I don't understand why it seems it was never cleaned. Maybe it won't come out... Maybe they need a Billy Mays product to remove the stains! I have written to management several times inquiring about this with no reply. Maybe someone out there will have better luck than I, in getting a reply.

Hey everyone, just wanted to announce a secret lil project I've been working on the past three months, which hopefully explains why I haven't made as many renderings as of late:   I've alway

I have always thought that the TT is one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in the U.S. I whish they would have gotten rid of those two microwave dishes at the 42nd floor level.  They can't generate that much revenue! I also hope that when the observation deck is opened on that floor that the 43rd floor outdoor deck is opened as well.  Does anyone have any old pictures/info  of the 43rd. floor deck?

Do you have any financial statements to back that up?  If they were not breaking even or profitable, I doubt they would still be up.

I dislike the dishes as well.....  Also, there was a time I actually used to do volunteer work for the visitors bureau up ion the deck....and one long time Clevelander told me stories of the outdoor deck being opened at one time....but I believe it was way above the 42 floor area...the second 'gated' platform.

was wondering if the tower is completely lit now including the shaft. I am based in Los Angeles and miss seeing her lit.

Not yet :(  Still just the top.

thank you for a response. it is much appreciated

I was wondering if someone had a comparable photo depicting the before/after effects of the cleaning/rehab...I bet the difference is startling

Awesome. I knew there was an old Bailey's department store in downtown Lakewood way back when. But I didn't know it was still there! I had no idea that awful building on Detroit at Warren was the same structure as Bailey's.

First Time Poster - Long Time Listener...

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this post but has any consideration been given to extending the E 4th pedestrian district?  It would be great if it could go around Public Square - across Frankfurt and up W 6th (Then maybe onto the FEB).

The walking district on E 4th has been extremely successful.  Large walking districts are extremely successful all over Europe - particularly large and small cities in Germany. It would provide an immediate place for out-of-towners to go and shouldn't be too expensive to build.  It would have to cross a couple of streets - but I think it could be limited.

Any input?

Here is a quick rendering.

Doubtful that W 6th will ever be pedestrian only.  There have been proposals to make Frankfurt a pedestrian only street, but we actually got to build something there first.  I think the short term and realistic goal is to extend the E 4th "row" accross Prospect towards the arena.

Welcome Boudyliscious!  Your proposal probably deserves a thread of its own for discussion (I think this thread is mostly for actual random developments rather than casual proposals).

I'm a big fan of the pedestrianization of E4th (I wish it went further, in fact, and that the valet zone would disappear), but I think your proposal would be a tough sell.  Public Square is subject to a whole bunch of planning attention that would probably move even more traffic to the perimeter roadway as a trade off for reducing traffic between the quadrants.  Pedestrianizing Frankfurt might work in conjunction with the Gilbane HWHD development, but I'm not sure it's a good idea for W6th- those metered spaces work pretty well, and the street ROW is very ,very wide, which means plenty of room for wide sidewalks and roadway.  If anything, I could imagine a widening of the sidewalk as was done for the block south of St. Clair, but not a total pedestrianization.

I would actually like to see the ped zone to extend along High and include E 2nd.  I just think it is amazing that the Cleats over there has made it and that this would be a tremendous help.  Additionally I would hope that is would encourage more development along Prospect.

Wow I really like that idea.  I'm guessing there would have to be some development on the parking lot across from Harry Buffalo and across from Cleat's in order for this to become a possibility.

I think a lot of people would love to see something done w/that parking lot.  Mixed income residential would be ideal.  I think that would be a pipedream for a long time that anything will get built there.

I think this is a great idea and hopefully we'll see them on the streets soon

A la cart? Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson cooks up plan for more food options on street

by John Campanelli / Plain Dealer Reporter

Monday June 08, 2009, 1:30 AM

For decades, if you needed a quick bite while on the sidewalks of Cleveland, street vendors provided two options: a hot dog or a sausage, each often boiled to a remarkable level of blandness.

But soon the curbside culinary scene in Cleveland could get interesting. Very interesting.

I remember reading this a while back and was really excited. Any news on this?

anyone know what the building being built is that you can see from the redline between E 79th and E 105th?

Wow!  That is impressive.  I only did a few pages of this thing and I'd had enough!

There's a gigantic tent-like structure going up next to Alcoa on Harvard near the Towpath terminus.  First there was metal piping, now some kind of canvas. Anyone know what's happening there?

I couldn't find the Steelyard Commons thread, so I'm assuming that it's in queue to undergo cleaning.

I noticed this morning that the freestanding Starbucks in Steelyard Commons has been closed.  The signage has been removed and there's brown paper on the windows.  The Starbucks inside of Target, however, is still open.

yeah somebody covered that about a month ago, maybe in the retailling thread. I think the concensus was it was more a having two starbucks 500 ft apart issue than a state of business at SYC.

As far as the tent at Alcoa, I'll ask my dad this weekend. They are one of his customers and he usually knows what is goingon there.

Yea - it closed several weeks ago.  Apparently they had only 'so-so' morning traffic but after that it was completely dead.  I never went there - i really don't care for Starbuck's coffee.  I guess from what I was told that a lot of the afternoon/evening coffee was being bought as people left the Target.

^I think this occurred a month or two ago and it was mentioned in the steelyard commons thread.

Wasn't sure where to put this

What is going on on Fulton by St. Rocco? Don't know if it was a bunch of residential units going up or not but the brick was being laid in.

Fulton Bridge was also being worked on and the light posts were being installed.

St. Rocco is building (or assisting in building) some Senior housing.

So just off the top of my head here is a list of projects that will be up and running in 3-4 years:

-The Casino/500+ mil

-Medical Mart

-Convention Ctr/450 mil

-New Innerbelt bridge/250+ mil

-Flats East Bank Phase 1

-2 downtown hotels (Flats & Shofield)

-2 UniversityCircle Hotels

-Shofield Rehab + 2 adjacent buildings

-2 RTA stations ((East + Brookpark)

-East side Transit Ctr

-Further Development at CollegeTown

-Current CSU construction

-Lakefront Development Pase 1

-New pedestrian bridge at NCHarbor

-668

-Powerhouse Aquarium

-PerkPark

-Reconstructed Mall C

-Cle Museum of Art Project

-Cle Institute of Art building

-Various Midtown Projects

-Downtown Tech Center

-RockOMeter (just kidding)

And Maybe:

-West Shoreway Project

-District of Design

-Warehouse district (Weston/Gilbane)

-West Bank of Flats

-Breuer Tower and Rotunda

-further phases of the Avenue District

mall c should be eliminated since that is all going to be above the mm/cc.

^picky, picky

^^I would think that both Mall C and B will have to be "reconstructed" for the new CC.  How else do they raise the ceilings?... especially once the old support pillars are removed.

Good list freethink.  One big development not on your list that I have hopes of being in full swing within that time frame is UpTown in UC.  IMHO, UpTown has more "potential" for immediate success than any other large scale project being discussed.

I'm not sure if you consider this part of the UpTown project but I would think the MOCA would be part of this list as well.

Don't forget the possible aquarium.

And the Euclid Retail District... which McCleve said was a real plan.

^the deal is in place for that... now they just need to get the tennants together.  Obviously this isn't the best climate for getting retailers to comit to things... but it's being worked on.

seeing all these projects is really making me excited for the next few years.

By the way, I haven't heard news on the pedestrian bridge at NCHarbor in a long time. Is that really expected to happen within the next 3-4 years?

Alcoa to rebuild 50,000-ton press in Cuyahoga Heights plant

By Robert Schoenberger, The Plain Dealer

November 05, 2009, 12:01AM

Alcoa Inc. will rebuild the damaged 50,000-ton press at its Cleveland Works in Cuyahoga Heights, a decision that will protect 700 jobs and eventually create hundreds more.

http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/11/alcoa.html

^the deal is in place for that... now they just need to get the tennants together. Obviously this isn't the best climate for getting retailers to comit to things... but it's being worked on.

Is this the furniture district idea that was being floated a while back, or something else?

The Euclid Avenue Retail Plan encompasses Euclid from PS to CSU.  There are different niches in different areas.  You can actually find the plan in it's entirety here:

http://www.downtownclevelandalliance.com/page/retailstudy.aspx?parent=34

As the SID (Special Improvement District) has evolved and is moving towards renewal, there will be a much higher concentration on economic development.  Euclid in particular, obviously the DCA is a portion of what is turning this plan into reality.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread

But I will put Soldiers and Sailors Monument info here...

Early this morning while it was still dark the interior of the Monument was lit up, so all of the recently-restored stained glass windows and their detail were shining brightly.

Maybe some who were out Wednesday night were able to see this too, I just happened to see it early (today) Thurs morning.

There is still a lot of construction equipment around the site...the entire job is still not complete.

I don't know if the interior will always be lit up from sundown to sunrise but it sure should be.

I will be very happy when this fantastic Cleveland landmark is finished.

-RockOMeter (just kidding)

I may be alone on this, but I think the Rockometer and the Music Legacy Plaza are great ideas that could help energize the NCharbor area unlike anytime before. Unfortunately it probably won't ever happen.

No matter the viability of the Rockometer plan, the Coast Guard just very quietly received $18 million in federal funding to rebuild their station at East 9th and Marginal.  So don't expect that parcel to come available for private development ANYTIME soon.

As a plus, at least we can add this to the list of projects to watch over the next decade.

That's too bad. That's truly a great piece of land and an idea like the rockometer and music legacy plaza could have been a great tourism attraction for Cleveland. I wish the Coast Guard could move their station somewhere else since there's so much other viable space on the lakefront, but that seems pretty darn unlikely now.

From today's Cudell Snippets e-newsletter.....

Point Building Under Construction

The Point Building, 10025 Lorain Avenue, has been under renovation for about four weeks. Cudell Improvement, Inc. purchased the building with the goal of providing a more pleasing entrance to the Lorain Station Historic  when travelling east on Lorain Avenue.  Earlier this year, the two billboards that had stood atop the building for more than 50 years were removed.  VIP Restoration was chosen to clean and tuckpoint the masonry and install new windows.  ARKRA Roofing is installing a new roof and repairing the original skylight that floods the second floor with natural light.  The interior will be renovated over the winter.  The building is for sale to a professional who wants to work on Floor One and live on Floor Two.  Great office and living space!  Contact Anita at anita@cudell .com for information.

That's good news.  I used to really like that intersection, but it's not as interesting since the south side was demolished for a cookie cutter Walgreen's.

"Sprawlgreens" Those and CVS/Rite Aids...all the same.

Any photos of this available?
