This story reminds you of how pathetic these types of things have become, and without the pushing of the private community, there really is nobody at the city level that seems to care about such things. Other examples have included the multiple bridge lightings, Rockefeller Park bridge and other lighting, stretches of street lighting (especially downtown). In a properly run city, these things would be unacceptable.

We are all free agents to some extent......I lived in Cleveland for a few years 20 years ago and was shocked at how poor the services were. Seems they've gotten worse. I'd like to move back into the city....but leadership HAS to do better. Lights.....Garbage......potholes.....cracked poles........ This is basic stuff.

In hindsight it's probably (hopefully) a temporary measure to keep people from getting hurt. Another sad part of this is how ridiculously expensive it is to plant trees in the city.
June 27, 20177 yr Twitter thread revealed these are in front of the Old Arcade on Superior. Google Street view shows trees in 2007 that looked near death in Aug 2009. By 2014 they were gone, and the caps were there by 2015.

September 3, 20177 yr whatever it is its gotta be very close to Ontario as its between the Justice Center and Key, both which are offset from Ontario by only some feet. Thats why i thought it was the hilton, which otherwise doesn't appear in the picture, unless its obscured by the Terminal Tower.

This photo was taken pre-hilton, so i made it between key and terminal. Misplacement is a no biggie. The Cuyahoga Valley Industrial Center is just off Interstate 77 that was cleaned and leveled by the city. Also, Ohio High Reach is expanding and relocating to this site from Valley View, taking 12 acres.. Cleveland is trying to land Canada's Nova Tube and Steel City Council is taking up legislation that would offer Nova Tube and Steel LLC, a subsidiary of Canadian steel processor and distributor Nova Steel, a 10-year, 60% tax abatement to develop a tube mill manufacturing facility on land now owned by a public-private development corporation in the Cuyahoga Valley Industrial Center. But how do we get to 20K? A lot more construction needs to be done if you figure an average of 2 people per apartment. (which is probably high) we need at least 2500 more apartments or condos downtown

By 2020 we could have 319 apartments in the playhouse square tower, 120 in the Halle Building, 177 in the Cleveland Athletic Club, 140 in the john hartness brown building, 600 in the union trust building, 187 in Beacon, 123 in the Garfield building, 230 in the leader building, 98 in worthington yards, 300 in terminal tower, 287 at the standard building, 80 at and next to liberty textile, 12 in the bloch building, and 16 in harbor verandas. That's over 2,689 and doesn't include the potential developments north of the brown's stadium (500), Nucleus (500), Weston's superblock (1200), and the may company building (280).
September 15, 20177 yr ^ let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Let's just reflect on what we have and where we are. There has been some sign of the rental market softening on the coasts so that's something to keep an eye on. The country as a whole is also overdue for a recession too.

September 15, 20177 yr ^^ I don't think that's getting too far ahead of ourselves at all. The projects in my first sentence totaling over 2,600 apartments seem to be moving along and it doesn't seem unlikely that many of them will be completed by 2020. The projects in my second sentence are more dubious but if even one of them goes forward it should be enough to make up for an inevitable shortfall or two in the other category.

September 15, 20177 yr I believe that DCA uses the city's boundaries Cuyahoga River, Lake Erie and Innerbelt. They might also include Stonebridge in their numbers too.
